Wayward flame

COMPLAINT: Wanda Wright, Washington, D.C.

"I called Cyprus Air Heating and Cooling to inspect and clean my gas log fireplace. There was nothing wrong with the fireplace but I called because it was advised to have it inspected at least once a year.

"They spent about 15 minutes inspecting it and then sprinkled some embers. Before they left, the fireplace was working. However, later that same day and ever since, the flames would appear only some of the time. According to the manual, the burner may be clogged.

"Cyprus returned, and it happened to be an instance when the flames came on. They advised me if I called again, it would cost $98. It's still not working but I don't trust the service provided by Cyprus.

"I contacted another company, and they removed the embers that Cyprus had sprinkled over the pilot and burners, repaired a loose wire and replaced a screw in the glass door assembly that was bent when the Cyprus technician forced it into the misaligned door. The fireplace has been working perfectly since then."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want to be reimbursed for the $230 Cyprus originally charged."

STATUS: Resolved
Wright received reimbursement and considers the matter resolved.
