Act now to protect your pet from parasites

Submitted by Michael C. Bassett, Medical Director of Pet Dominion

We love our pets. They become members of our families. We want to give them long happy lives with loving care. Parasite protection is an important part of that care.

Heartworm disease is transmitted to dogs and cats through mosquitoes and can be fatal. Intestinal parasites such as hookworms, roundworms and whipworms can cause serious illness in our pets and us. Fleas, ticks and mites can transmit diseases, cause horrible discomfort and infest our environments.

There are very effective products that protect against all of these parasites at a fraction of the cost for treating their effects and getting rid of them. The best source for these products is your veterinarian. He or she is has extensive knowledge of the parasite life cycles and the products used to protect our pets and our environment.

The veterinary office usually has these products for a comparable price (often less) than they are available online or at local retailers. Also these products often come with a guarantee of efficacy when purchased through your veterinarian, which is not the case at other outlets.

Pet Dominion is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in Rockville, MD.
