5 money-saving interior design tips

5 money-saving interior design tips

It is important to have both your ideas and your budget in order before you start any home renovations or changes in decorating. Do you think your interior design ambitions are bigger than your budget?

Many homeowners are finding that they can reinvigorate their space without spending much. A great home makeover may consist of simply rearranging existing items or adding small changes on the cheap.

Below is a list of tips to help you get the most of your space with a tight budget.

1. Paint.

Painting is one of the best and cheapest investments around and it can also make a dramatic change to any room.

2. Buy second hand.

Shop at thrift stores, consignment shops, estate sales and neighborhood yard sales. Your neighbors’ discarded items could be the key to bringing your room back to life.

3. Stock items.

If you must buy new, try sticking with stock items instead of custom or special ordering items. When you do this, prices can increase significantly. Stick with neutral colors and jazz up the area with something like a colorful throw pillow using the money you saved.

4. Be patient.

It pays to wait for sales and discounts, especially when they lower the price on that special item you really love and have been waiting for. Don’t rush into a purchase.

5. Rearrange.

Before spending any money, start by arranging your room and prioritizing your decorating needs. Simply moving existing items can make many helpful changes.

Following these tips along with setting a budget at the outset can help you put your money where it matters most. Also, do your homework and check showrooms, magazines and the Internet for ideas and deals.

It’s also wise to consult with a reputable designer. Designers get special discounts and pricing that they can extend to you to help you create the space you’re wanting. They can also assist you with better planning and help you think through every decision. A plan from a design pro can help you pull together a winning look!
