5 Household hints to clean furniture

These unique tips will keep your furniture looking sharp and your home clean.

1. Not just for elephants anymore

To fix discoloration and scratches in wood furniture, break a peanut (or another nut) and rub the broken side over the scratches. This can eliminate discoloration, and the furniture may look almost as good as new.

2. Easy mattress cleaner

Clean stains from mattresses by mixing a thick paste of cornstarch and water and then drizzling it on the stain. Allow it to dry at least four hours and vacuum off.

3. Shaving cream gets out stains

The next time you get a stain on your couch, favorite chair or throw pillow, try shaving cream. Surprisingly, it's great for getting stains out of fabric.

4. Do away with pesky pet hair

Got a pet that leaves hair on your sofas and chairs? Put on a pair of rubber gloves and wipe your hands over the pet hair (in one direction). It comes right off.

5. Tea trick

For a homemade furniture stain, use strong tea. For extra refreshment, top it off with some lemon furniture polish.
