Prevent chimney fires with proper maintenance

More than 25,000 house fires each year get their start in chimneys or fireplaces.  Keeping your chimney swept clear of creosote will minimize the chances of a fire starting in yours.

great information ....especially the part about cost. i need a chimney sweep in Northeast Mississippi.

If you have a gas log fireplace, do you still have to have your chimney cleaned? If so, how often?

Can you put a cap on a chimney that vents an Oil furnace? I was told no but the rain comes in--please advise

The mortar around my clean-out on the outside of my chimney needs to be replaced. The old is cracking and coming loose and the door does not close. How can I get It repaired at a reasonable cost or repair myself.

Patti, yes gas log fireplaces still need maintenance. How often depends on how much you use it.

UI can"t seem to find anyone to fix mine. It's a gas one inside an existing fireplace. The guy told me a chimney man had to do it and the chimney man said a gas repair man had to do it ! So I paid twice for nothing ! Oh, and I still have not turned it on after living here 21/2 years !

My daughter uses her fireplace 16 hours a day. It is a gas log. I did not know you should not use it for more than a few hours. Are our modern chimneys different than those in the olden days when that was all we had for heat.

Need someone for chimney tuckpointing ...any reasonable contractors?
