The dangers of DIY jobs

In an effort to save time and money, homeowners may turn into DIY weekend warriors. However, if you don't have the level of experience, correct tools and time, that do-it-yourself project could cost more than just money in the long run. WE ARE REMODELING OUR HOME ( BUILT IN 1955) WE REMOVED THE CARPET AND FOUND HARDWOOD. IT IS IN DECENT SHAPE BUT DOESN'T CONTINUE INTO THE DINING ROOM, MY QUESTION IS DO I REPLACE IT OR REFINISH. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION. I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT. FINDING NEW THAT WILL MATCH MAY BE A PROBLEM. WHAT IS YOUR SUGGESTION? YES IT CREAKS AND HAS A FEW GOUGES BUT I THINK IT GIVES IT OLD WORLD CHARM . DO I REMOVE IT TRY TO MATCH IT ( WE WILL BE CHANGING THE STAIN ON IT ANYWAY) OR DO I TILE IT. ANY SUGGESTION WOULD HELP. I'M AT A LOSS. OH, MY HUSBAND ALSO THINKS HE CAN PUT NEW DIRECTLY OVER THE OLD, I DISAGREE. THANKS ANGIE, MRS KAREN L NOLTING
