Angie Hicks, Angie’s List founder: “Carpet cleaning costs are determined by the square footage of the area being cleaned or the number of stairs. Always insist on an in-home estimate to get the best estimate possible and remember than even a small area may cost around $79 to be cleaned. Always be careful when you hear promotions for carpet cleaning. Never go with an estimate that sounds too good to be true. You always want to be sure that you’re going to get the right estimate so you don’t end up with extra charges after you hire someone. There are a number of different carpet cleaning methods out there and it can be overwhelming for consumers. The best bet is to follow your carpet manufacturer’s recommendation because you don’t want to risk voiding your warranty.”
Jason Hanna, Langenwalter Carpet Cleaning: “The time to replace your carpet is when you get it professionally cleaned and you just don’t like the results once it’s dirty enough that you can’t get it as clean as you’d like to have it and that’s really up to the individual consumer. Don’t eat in the rooms where there is carpet -eat or drink, vacuum at least a couple times a week and if you take your shoes off your carpet will last almost forever.”
