6. Oatmeal Therapy
Lukewarm or cool bath water may be infused with the natural essence of oatmeal by filling a cloth compress, such as a clean cotton sock, with approximately 1 cup of oatmeal and then gently swishing it around in the filled tub. The water is ready when it appears slightly milky.
You can also powder whole or rolled oats in a blender or food processor, and then dissolve the finely ground oats under the faucet as it fills the tub. Soaking for 30 minutes in this liquid balm should be followed by a cool, cleansing rinse.
Direct application of oatmeal paste has a similar ability to soothe skin scourged by harsh sunshine. Mix cool water and powdered oatmeal into a paste, which can then be rubbed into the skin. New layers of paste may be added as needed. This application is especially effective at encouraging the retention of essential skin oils.
