How Angie's List works:
1. As a member, sign in to AngiesList.com to find a highly rated service company.
2. Read detailed reports on specific service companies from other members in your area.
3. Make an informed hiring decision and report your own experiences.
Oh, and service companies can't self-report or buy their way onto the List. (We get that question a lot and dedicate and extraordinary amount of time and effort to prevent it.)
Angie's List members receive:
• Access to thousands of local reports across more than 300 service categories.
• Subscription to our award-winning Angie's List Magazine. • Penalty Box to see which companies aren't pulling their weight. • Complaint resolution should a problem arise with a company.
• Coupons from highly rated service companies.
• Discounts to local museums, concerts and sporting events.

Overall: A
Price: A
Quality: A
Responsiveness: B
Punctuality: B
Professionalism: A
Cost: $21,000
Description of Work: Tore down a very old garage and built a new two-car garage.
Member Comments: From the beginning, Don was very receptive and bargained down his price to fit our needs. He will always call back and is very responsive, but you always have to call him to find out what's going on. We found that the work on the ground took a lot longer than we would have thought (especially when we have such wet weather), but once the foundation was laid, the rest was done very quickly. We're very happy with the final product!

Overall: F
Price: C
Quality: F
Responsiveness: F
Punctuality: F
Professionalism: F
Cost: $32,000
Description of Work: He was contracted to build an 18x18 addition to the side of our home. He was way over the eight week time frame for this build. They did very shoddy work, so after many problems we feared for our safety and finally fired him.
Member Comments: Every aspect of this build went poorly. The concrete slab he poured was not level and can't be fixed without jack-hammering it and starting over. The windows are uneven; every outlet is at a different level; all trim work had to be redone; the windows were leaking and had to be fixed; the door was installed improperly and had to be replaced, and he left our yard in disarray.

Angie's List Tips and Articles
Avoid Crummy Contractors
Too many consumers are disappointed in the services their contractor offers, or worse, are ripped off by the person they trusted to help improve their home. Some states have no licensing requirements for contractors, which can make it difficult for homeowners to check up on contractors before they hire.
