Wellness workshop locations

To help lower the number of employee absences due to injuries or illness and to provide general health and wellness information for their personnel, many companies publish and distribute healthcare materials or lead health and wellness programs. Employers have started regular communication of health issues to their employees to promote healthy lifestyle practices and encourage positive changes.

Companies with intranet service often include articles about healthcare in their online newsletters. Businesses distribute print publications in their main and satellite offices, such as newsletters, paycheck stuffers, posters and table tents in cafeterias. These organizations sometimes bring in healthcare providers to lead education workshops covering specialized areas or speak to larger groups of people on more general topics.

Many companies sponsor health fairs, where community healthcare providers and medical centers set up booths to answer questions and distribute information. These provide a great means for employees to learn more about the services available in their towns and cities.

School wellness education programs

Many wellness programs are designed specifically for children of different ages and needs. Educators tailor some of these programs for both students and their parents. Schools know that children who are part of an ongoing wellness program will be absent less, be more energetic and maintain the proper weight for their age.

Wellness programs cover a variety of topics. For example, students may learn how eating less junk food and more nutritious meals will keep them healthier and lower the risk of diseases such as diabetes. Schools may also offer weight management or exercise programs for students who are becoming or are already obese. Information on personal allergies is also given to make sure students can make the best dietary decisions possible.

Sometimes, dentists visit the school to talk with the children. With the growing use of computers, many teachers use electronic games as an entertaining way to learn about health and wellness issues. The school may also hold education workshops in the evenings for parents about specific health issues that affect their children.

Community health programs

Healthcare providers often lead programs for a certain residents of a city, either at local medical buildings or in local public locations such as libraries or community centers. These programs cover specific topics, such as common female or male cancers, or general health and wellness subjects.

Lectures for seniors may include topics such as how to eat healthy and keep physically and mentally fit. Specialists give talks on diseases that are common in older patients, such as osteoporosis, Alzheimer's and depression. They emphasize preventive techniques like seeing doctors as recommended, not ignoring any signs of illness and taking the right kinds of medicine.

Community centers and medical offices institute health and wellness programs for pregnant women or those who are just considering having a baby. OB/GYNs talk about what to expect during pregnancy and how the women can keep themselves and their babies healthy.

Healthcare professionals also hold community-wide programs to distribute and explain the use of self-help materials. People can use interactive videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, audiotapes and books in the convenience of their own homes. When they finish the educational program, they may meet with the provider to review the materials and ask further questions or meet with each other in a larger group to discuss what they have learned. These joint meetings can be very helpful when discussing topics such as how to stop cigarette smoking, lose weight or start an exercise program.
