Winston Salem Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Reviews
All of my existing cabinets were removed and new cabinets installed.
I could not be happier with my new kitchen. I appreciated all the personal attention from the staff at
I would highly recommend
He also reglazed some old windows that were desperately in need of repair and made them look good again.
There were delays at the beginning of the job but once they started the tear out it went pretty quickly. Once the actual construction started there were multiple delays. Cabinets that they had known were going to be needed for several weeks were not completed when it was time to install them. The same thing occurred with the granite countertop. There were often days when I would expect workmen to be on premises and no one showed. I asked repeatedly to be notified if work was not going to be done on a given day. I seldom received such communication. As a result a job that I was told would take 5-7 weeks was drawn out over 5 months and there are still a few small things that have not been finished to my satisfaction (such as white paint showing through another color and a ceiling that is poorly done). Three different groups of people have been out to my home to see what needed to be completed or corrected over the past 6 weeks. Each time I have been assured that these "punch list" items would be taken care of the following week. Most recently
I have to add that overall I am pleased with the appearance of my kitchen . But the process (which is still not completed) has taken too long and I am tired of trying to get it resolved.
If I could offer one piece of advice to anyone considering such renovation- DO NOT make the last payment until every single thing is completed. I wish I had followed that advice.
*******10/11/13 This is an update to my post from last week-
When the work finally began, that's when the real nightmare set in. The only work that was completed that hasn't needed remediation was the installation of the framing and insulation. With the electrical, they completely forgot to run the power for the hot water heater, miss-located fixtures, and simply used the wrong kind of fixtures for the bathroom. Sheetrock had to be removed to remediate the electrical and structural issues created by their work. A new awning was built but to the wrong dimensions and design, it had to be completely removed and rebuilt. Roofing repair was completed incorrectly and with the wrong materials/shingles. It all had to be ripped up and redone. Siding was actually installed with roofing nails and particle board, it had to be removed and redone. Best of all they poured self-leveling concrete on the second floor only to decide after the fact that the floor was not structurally sound to support the added weight. Even worse, the self leveling concrete was poured incorrectly. Instead of pouring at the low point and allowing it to spread out, multiple pours were completed from different parts of the room still leaving the floor uneven. They had to remove the installed sheetrock so that a structural engineer could inspect it and ultimately they sanded/grinded the concrete back out to restore to the original weight.
Throughout all of this mess, there has been a large staff turnover. At least 3 lead carpenters/project leads that i know of had either quite or were fired. The same with the sub-contractors and crews that they were utilizing. There has been zero consistency in the engagement. And with every new project lead and crew, I've had to go over all the issues that needed to be remediated and make sure that they were clear on the original scope of work. Perhaps the biggest dissappointment is with
The sad part in all of this, I was willing to sign a contract at a higher price for the reputation, experience, and for the professionalism. Instead what I got was amateur night at the
My advice would be to pass on this company at least for the time being. It is not the same company that it was even six months ago that all of the previous good reviews would have been based upon. I'll update my review if they finish the job and if the experience improves at all.
As an update, I've learned this morning that Structure's by Design is rolling off of my job. I've updated the professionalism to a C to account for the fact that they are at least remediating the mistakes prior to leaving the job. Still a negative experience overall and I've lost 5 months where I could have had the job completed elsewhere. I hope they are able to turn things back around, they seem like nice enough people.
