"Purchased "The Big Deal" Dryer Vent cleaning from Angie's List. Didn't hear from anyone for several days so I called them. They responded with" 24 hours and we were able to set up a time. One gentleman arrived first and it was a little scary, he didn't have a Duct Dr. shirt, ID, or company vehicle. He just showed up, said, "I'm with Duct Dr., the truck and other guys got stuck in traffic but should be here any minute." Once the guys did show up, they were courteous, professional, thorough, and fast! They did a fantastic job and I was thoroughly shocked at how much they were able to pull out & clean. I obviously feel safer and my new dryer should be much more efficient.

-Mary L.

"The service was outstanding. They arrived on time and cleaned the ducts in a timely manner. When they were done, since they owed me a credit, I asked them to clean" my dryer filters and vents and they did on the spot without question. Great guys, great service. I would use them again.

-Tyra M.

Is Air Duct Cleaning Worth It?

Experts agree there is value to air duct cleaning, although there's no scientific evidence it improves air quality.

Air Duct Cleaning

The air you breathe indoors can become more polluted than outdoor air because it's trapped inside, allowing contaminants to accumulate. Many HVAC companies offer air duct cleaning services, but there's no scientific proof that air duct cleaning improves air quality.

Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

There are varying opinions on the type of cleaning to have done on your air ducts.  My opinion is that it varies based on the type of duct work you have.  If you have solid material (typically metal) ducting you can have use a company that uses a brush to scrape the system clean.  If you have flexible plastic or foil ducts the solvent cleaners are generally a safer bet since the brushes often tear holes in the soft material and/or pull joints loose.  It really depends on what type on ducting you have.  You're ducts will collect all kinds of dirt, skin cells and allergens over time so if you see dicoloration around your vents it is probably time to get them checked and cleaned.

Also, don't stop at the duct work.  Don't forget your annual system check up by a licensed HVAC technician.  They'll make sure your system is running at peak performance, keeping it running efficiently and with as little impact as possible on your electric bill.  You can often save the cost of the annual tune up in the electricity cost saved.  If you have a natural gas system a bi-annual check and cleaning of the HVAC unit may be advisable to save electricity and gas.

Your right, HVAC companies are really not much help at all in regard to getting all the rooms and floors the same temperature, and airflow.  It's not their focus or their expertise. They repair and sell hardware.  I had the same exact problem here in Central Florida.  I had rooms that were to hot in the summer and the same ones were to cold in the colder months.  I have a 2 story 2800 sq ft home with 4 bedrooms.  I did a lot of research, and I tried to fix it myself, but in reality I made it worse.  I finally found a company here in the Central Florida area called AirFlowBalance, LLC.  Their web site is AirFlowBalance.com.  This company is not an HVAC dealer or repairer.  Their sole focus is to balance the airflow and temperature in a home by using a nonevasive proprietary process, with patented devices. Now, when I set my thermometer at 75 degrees, every room is 75 degrees.  I no longer have to bump up or down the temp from room to room.  No more thermostat wars with my family!  Also, I was very supprised at how affordable it was and the whole job was done under 3 hours.  They also have an online estimate page on their web site.  I hope this helps, and I am not sure if they have an office in AZ.
if you have exhausted all of your choices I would call and put a complain in with the BBB then go to the DA and put a complain with them.  Then get a good lawyer and sue them for all you can get.

Air Duct Cleaning reviews in Winston Salem

Showed up at the time scheduled. Performed all the work. Found out our dryer vent was disconnected underneath the house, reconnected it. Were very professional and friendly. Was done in 2 hours. Very happy with service.
- Exa R.

They were here all day cleaning and they were very thorough. We were very pleased with the service. The quality of work was well worth paying the $570.

I wasnt able to use the deal because there were extra cost involved with my property that was outside of the deal's amount. I felt he was very honest, credible, and trustworthy.

After the (two) workers arrived, they indicted that the initial services on the ad was just a promotion and more cost would be needed to clean the entire system and to install a Mildicide. An estimate was provided for all the work. The cost went from a $50 special to well over $1300. My wife who was handling the project was Ok with the price increase ...More and the services provided. As the work progresssed, my wife noticed that one man was doing all the work and the other doing very little and was doing a lot of talking and visiting with my wife. The work took 5 hours. The vent cleaning and added services seem to go as described in the final WO.
During the cleaning, the talker started to describe to my wife the benefits of installing a UV light system in the vents to further purge and purify the source air for alergens. My wife who has very bad alergies became convinced that this was what was needed in our home. The added cost woudl be $699 per unit. Two units would be needed in our system. My wife called me at work for advice. I went along with it based on what she described to me. She payed for the vent cleaning service and the UV devices up front.
The later was a mistake. This is where the wheels began to fall off the wagon and is my major complaint with this company. My wife called several times to the Greenboro office to set up a schedule for the installation. Each time she was put in contact the talker. At every occasion, there was an excuse why he could not come; not enough units, no help so forth and so on.
In the second week of June, I called the office and told the the that I need to set up an apt for installation and we could not get satisfaction with the talker. After several days the talker contacted my wife, again. He gave her another round of excuses. I called the office again and told the that if I did not get service ASAP, I would report them to the BBB. After that I got a call from the Customer Service Rep. He had the units delivered to my home the next day and set up a service call for several days later. When the service man arrived (the same man who did all the work in the vent cleaning), I found out i needed 110 v outlets to install the UV light system. Dumb me it never dawned on me that this was needed and it was never discussed up- front . Fortunately, there was an outlet available for the garage unit. The service man told me that the talker could not make it to help him and that he could would install the unit himself. I asked him if he installed any units before and he said yes and that he had done "several" (4 total) I was not comfortable with this and went with him for the observe the installation. It became apparent to me that he was not experienced on what to do. There was a template in the box for cutting the installation holes and installing the screws which he was not aware of and I am not sure if he knew what to do with it. The installation was that complicated, so I assisted him. I feel if I was not there, he would have screwed it up.
I decided not to install the unit in the attic because there was no 110 V outlet available and I did not want to spend more money plus the installation would have been more complicated as the air duct was not metal.
I sent the unused unit box unopened back with the service man (labeled it with my name on it.) I have written a letter asking for my money back. This was a week ago and no reply so far. I the contract indicted a 10 day return policy. I will start calling next week.
l have learned several lessons from all this, They are as follows: 1. Do not answer ads that seem to good, 3. get up front estimates from the contractor and use the 3 day waiting period to think about it. In the meantime, get more estimates, 3. Do not pay for services or equipment until the work is complete. 4. Research contractors using Angie's list ( I am now member) 5. My wife (and i) will be more alert to piling on services that we have not discussed in advance. 6. Pay more attention to the contract language and not the talkers

This ended up being a VERY disappointing experience for us and regarding the actual work that they did, we have no way of knowing if it was done well or not since we're not trained in this and can't physically tell a difference with the vents, etc after the cleaning. After purchasing this service on Angie's list, they rescheduled us twice ...More and at the last min - there was no warning that they couldn't come until the time of the scheduled appt. Their advertisement on Angie's List was also very misleading - it made it sound like we would get a full cleaning on one system for $167, but that was not the case. the day they finally did show up, they made "assessments" and we ended up paying $300 more to get the bare minimum cleaning. The icing on the cake though was that when they left after their services were completed at 6pm, our heat would not work again!! This was in mid-late and it was freezing, temps were in the teens or lower that night. Thankfully, at 10pm they did return to try to fix it, but could not figure out how they had put the system back together and at 1am, a specialist in furnaces showed up and fixed it in less than 5 mins! Apparently, they had just switched some wires in putting the system back together, but they couldn't figure that out on their own in those 3 hrs! It was an expensive day full of inconvenience and stress! They did pay for this furnace specialist to get the heat back on at 1am, but that was obviously their responsibility since it was their fault that our heat wouldn't work after the cleaning. We highly recommend NOT to use this company!!

As far as workers go who have visited our house, was outstanding, in every way. He worked incredibly h****** our house that had never been duct cleaned before. 's assistant had some medical issue the morning of our appointment and was unable to help him, but instead of canceling for the day, ...More did the job solo. Both my husband and I were blown away. He is such a fun person to talk to, we were both sorry to say goodbye. We would use him again tomorrow if we needed him!

I received an Angieslist Message from asking me if a certain date was ok. I responded and accepted the date. A follow up message said that the spot was now booked and I would need to reschedule. I rescheduled and no one ever showed up. I called and left multuple messages finally receiving a call saying my work order never made ...More it on the days schedule and I would be called in a day or two to reschedule for the THIRD time. I never received a call. I called and left multiple messages as well as sending the company messages through Angie's List. I asked for a refund on The Big Deal Purchase and it is in process. Only after did I ask for a refund did I get a call from the company asking me to schedule service. I declined and will take my business to a repuitable provider.
I would absolutely NOT recommend . Do not purchase any services from them. They lack all sense of professionalism and you will be lucky if you receive service from them.

Vent eventually cleaned.on second date. Showed up early on Sept 5 w/o calling first. Vendor did not have a ladder to access outside vent where problem existed. Attempted to clean vent from inside but only managed to make blockage worse. I had to lend vendor a drill. Both batteries for his drill died. Vendor returned the next tuesday with a ladder. ...More Vent successfully cleaned. Working fine now.
