Coleman's Plumbing | Rockville, Md.

Angie's List member Kelda Brown says Mark Coleman, owner of Coleman's Plumbing, not only arrived early to clean a drain and replace a pipe, he also talked himself out of profit.

"He noticed my garbage disposal wasn't going to last much longer and walked me through every step I needed to buy a replacement and install it myself," Brown says. "He could have offered to replace it for a fee, but opted to save me money."

Coleman, who's licensed by the state and in Maryland, says he learned his strong work ethic as an apprentice plumber in the early 1990s.

"If you run into your customers at a grocery store, you want them to shake your hand, not duck between aisles to get away from you," he says.

He says he treats every job as if it was the first one. "I approach [every job] as if it were a brand-new customer I want to impress," he says.

Dr. Glass McLean | Arlington, Va.

Dr. Glass McLean owner Tim Poly believes the key to his success is meticulous workmanship.

"I don't want the customer to feel like they have to work before or after we arrive," he says. "They'll ask me, should I move the drapes or furniture? And I say, 'If you're hiring Dr. Glass, we should be the ones doing everything.'"

Angie's List member Robert Claude appreciated the personal attention. "I never felt like he was rushing, and he was strictly focused on my home," Claude says.

"Now the windows are so clean you can't even tell they're there. It gives my cats a thrill every time a bird tries to fly through the window."
