"I have been restoring my 1927 Petworth area row home in
, DC. I wanted a beautiful functional kitchen, but I wanted it to be modern and" authentic to the architecture of the home.
simply delivered.
took the time to make sure that all of the cabinets would fit beautifully in in the space. They also installed a bamboo floor which looks like it is part of the original 1927 hardwood flooring of the rest of the house. My friends and family simply love the gorgeous glass back splash. Unique hardware and modern appliances round out the look. I love cooking, and I really love cooking in that kitchen. Installing my new granite counter tops proved tricky, but
was up to the task. I now have a beautiful kitchen, which was put to good use for Thanksgiving. Next up, Christmas Eve Dinner.

"Based on his work gutting and remodeling my kitchen on Capitol Hill, I wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend
for your remodel." I love the kitchen. And I look forward to working with
on future renovations. I’ll aim to keep this short, so just a few of the reasons I recommend
so enthusiastically: First,
’s a perfectionist. Many claim the “perfectionist” label, but it truly fits
. The dozen or so contractors I interviewed sort of all blurred together toward the end, except that
stood out memorably as the easy choice. In part this was because of his pricing (more on that later), but it was more because of a short and
conversation during his initial visit that impressed upon me his attention to detail. Sort of off the cuff after taking a quick call,
commented how hard it was to find good help. That perked my attention. I asked what happened, and he mentioned that one of his guys had picked up from Home Depot the wrong brand of some materials. That got us talking, with me volunteering a gripe about a memo I was just reviewing where the author couldn’t be consistent in his use of the serial comma.
picked up there with some problem he was having getting the tile right in a bathroom remodel. I nodded my head, adding that I love that feeling when at work I’m right on the
, channeling “flow.” At that,
was smiling big, “yeah, I’ve got to have everything on my jobs tight, it all has to fit.” I was essentially sold at that point. That attention to detail was more than just aspirational.
’s perfectionism showed itself several times during my remodel. He almost insisted on leveling the only slightly inclined floor, charging just a few extra dollars to get that done. The paint job looked great to me, but it wouldn’t do for
– “the guys just painted over the nails.” Re-spackled and re-painted, free of charge. The lighting under the cabinets, not visible unless you actually looked under the cabinets, was the wrong size. It was returned, with the manufacturer agreeing to expedite the shipping on the correct lighting, again no charge to me. I’m sure I’m unaware of many, many other times when
kept things moving toward that “tight” kitchen without me knowing. The result, though, of all those unknown nudges when I wasn’t looking (and wouldn’t know where to look) was a kitchen that looks perfect and functions perfectly. But it’s not just
’s drive for the "tight" remodel that recommends him. He also was particularly helpful in suggesting improvements on my design. I'm a bachelor with bad taste and no interest in, or flair for, interior design, so
's recommendations were particularly appreciated. “Your kitchen’s a bit cramped, why not open things up by putting the frig where the hot water heater is now and put one of those flash heaters outside?” Beautiful idea. “It’s going to be crowded if you put a cabinet under that window. Maybe just leave it bare underneath the window?” Yep, good point. “Speaking of that window, why not replace that old pane of glass with a real window that you can open.” Yep, definitely, I should have thought of that. “Ever thought of recessed lighting. It wouldn’t be hard to add here.” I hadn’t, but totally agreed. “It’s hard for your A/C to get air all the way back into your kitchen. Might be worth considering insulation to better control the temperature.” Do it, if it’s just a few extra dollars. “How about some extra lighting under the cabinets. Not hard or expensive.” Great, do it. “How about we
some tile on the cabinet floor where you’ll store your cleaners? Good way to protect the bottom of the cabinet.” Nice. I did
a few ideas (with no pushback from
), but I generally agreed with his ideas so often that toward the end I essentially gave him
to do as he pleased with the kitchen. Besides perfectionism and a lot of help and insightful recommendations, with
you also get a lot of patience and a “customer is always right” attitude, which is pretty remarkable given that
is driven to get things done quickly and efficiently and definitely has his own point of view as to how that should all happen. That customer-friendly patience was particularly important to me. I’m a senior BigLaw associate, constantly traveling, consistently working 65-hour weeks. I also have a predilection for developing quasi-obsessions with random, unimportant things. I had to have soapstone counters (granite is too hard and shiny). I also felt something like a command from God to find flooring that approximately matched my 120-year old growth pine flooring that run throughout the house (solution: reclaimed old growth can be found online). And I’m not sure why it was so hard for me to choose appliances . . . so many choices. Those idiosyncrasies, combined with my work schedule, meant that it took more than a year for me to have everything ready before
could get started on the remodel. He’s got plenty of business already, but somehow he still stuck with me through all my delays and questions, sending a polite email every six weeks or so reminding me of the things that we’re on my to do list, keeping me moving gradually but surely toward the kitchen remodel I didn't want to think about. So, this review is already long, but summing things up: With
you get an intense drive to perfectionism and attention to detail, a huge inventory of remodeling ideas and options and a fantastic willingness to work with you on your schedule and to tolerate your annoying idiosyncrasies. And what does this cost you? Crazy enough, of the dozen or so contractors who sent estimates,
fell somewhat below the average estimate I received from the others. An incredible value, particularly in hindsight. My word of advice to you: Meet with
; ask him for some ideas; get a feel for his character; judge the intangibles when considering in the estimates. If you get to that point, this overly long review won’t matter to you; he’ll be self-recommending.

Artificial (quartz) is cheaper, more uniform, has fewer voids to collect dirt, and is almost as abrasion and chip resistant.

Granite is more expensive, stains and collects dirt a little easier as a rule, and is slighly more chip resistant as a rule.

For durability, I would not rate one over the other - barring a 250 lb guy hopping up on it and cracking it, either is likely to outlive you. Selection is typically based on appearance - quartz tends to be more uniform looking and does not always do a good job of simulating the veining and variations that natural stone has.

Now some of the man made stone counters rival the real granite and othe stones without the maintainence of stone. There are many of them out there and it is more a choice of looks than anything else. Corian is still a strong choice of tops today and one advantage is it can be repaired when scratched on site. If you don't mind the maintainence you can't beat the looks of real stone though unless you need a few pieces to make up the top as the graining may be hard to match up. I am impressed though at how realistic some of the man made products have become. It is more an issue of what brand are available in your area. Most all are made the same way with crushed stone and basically an epoxy binder used to make the sheets.

Marble And Granite reviews in Washington

work looks good and I am overall happy. Communication was a bit difficult. Felt like every interaction was a bit confusing or took more calls than it should, but in the end I am happy with the work.
- Karen B.

Highly recommended. This was for a galley kitchen remodel.
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
is fast and responsive to deal with and a very good head contractor from my experience.
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
, the primary day-to-day guy in charge of the work was great and friendly, as well as the entire group of workers. The company had a range of cabinets to be selected from cheaper ones, to mid range, to custom. I went with the custom ones, Adelphi, where were the same price as one's from Lowe's but appear to be much higher quality and more custom in measurements. They managed to save the granite counter I wanted to keep that was still somewhat new and usable. No last minute price changes. As always, things pop up and there was a few days delay but it happens in every home improvement project I have seen happen and they handled it with ease. Again, highly recommended.

Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
, who owns
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
, was a delight to work with. We visited her at her site to see all the granite remnants for our fireplace. She helped us focus on our design and made great suggestions of her own. When we picked out the two stones were wanted to use, she gave us an estimate shortly after, and then sent her designer out to measure. He made some refinements to the design which we felt were great improvements.
The job went forward and the installation had no issues. We are thrilled with the results.
My only nits are that it is sometimes hard to get
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
to respond. She is a busy lady and does try, but sometimes it takes several days to get a response. The folks she has working for her are polite when you call, don't seem to have the knowledge or authority to provide responses,
- david L.

Amazing experience from start to finish. Very affordable pricing, great communication to requests/information, knowledgable, responsive and punctual staff (both office & in-field), fast & professional installation and great quality. Separate thanks to Gi who was always on top of things and being very professional and helpful throughout the entire project. I would definitely use them again and recommend to others.

This is an updated review, as explained below.

Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
was recommended by the general contractor on the job, Premier Home Pro. They did show up on time. Installation seemed to go smoothly. When they had finished, I asked for the warranty on the materials (the Silestone) and was told they would send it. Thereafter, we went through a year-long process of trying to get the warranty from
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
. Apparently, there was some sort of glitch between
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
regarding the paperwork. Our original review reflected our frustration, mostly because we did not receive any response to our e-mails and calls. It appears that
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
WAS, in fact, working to resolve the matter, but it would have helped to get some feedback. Shortly after we submitted the first review, we received a digital copy of the warranty and an explanation from
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
. We have therefore submitted this updated rating.

There was one other important issue that
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
may not necessarily be responsible for (which is represented in updated rating also).
What we could not see at the end of installation (the undercabinet lights were not in yet), was that the Silestone has what looks like small subsurface fractures in many of the embedded quartz chips. They came back out and said it was not their fault. They came out with the Silestone rep and he said that this was not normal. We had hopes that it would be resolved, but heard nothing. I called Silestone and they said I would have to work through the installer (
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
). Months later,
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
agreed to replace the countertop, but we would have to pay for the replacment of the tile backsplash, removal and reinstallation of the sink and plumbing, etc. that would be required (plus any associated accidental damage to the floor and cabinets,etc.). We said no, and asked only that they fix the few areas where the quartz chips had spalled AND get us the warranty. The repairs are still not done but at least we DO have the warranty on the material now. If spalling does become an issue, we have some hope of getting
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
to fix it (we hope).

We are still a bit concerned that
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
did not note the subsurface flaws in the Silestone when it seems clear that this is NOT normal. It is possible that
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
just doesn't work with Silestone enough to know better. We still have to resolve with
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
if the problem with material is due to a fabrication error (but we should give
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
the benefit of the doubt until then). The workmanship otherwise is very good (the joints look good, the finish is clean, the
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
are crisp). We are not sure we would recommend
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
to install another Silestone countertop, but they may be fine for marble and granite.

We do not have words to describe how amazing
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
Honavar and his team are. They took on the challenging task of renovating our entire 100 year old house in a mere 12 weeks. This included renovating an entire kitchen, three bathrooms, replacement of plumbing, electric wires, and unwanted non-load bearing structures as well as overseeing the installation of new hardwood floors and clearing out structures in our basement. Most contractors cannot even complete a kitchen in that time period reliably (we know from experience). On top of that, our house was a complete disaster to work in. Every day, a new surprise appeared (not as a result of
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
's work)....ceilings collapsed, roofs leaked, every piece of wiring we exposed was inappropriately wired and had to be redone, and we learned we had no subfloor under one of the floors that we were replacing...the list goes on. But
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
took int in stride, had a great sense of humor about it, and STILL kept us on schedule despite the fact that most
contractors would be months behind as a result. Not only are
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
and his team a pleasure to work with, but they did great quality work, provided us with excellent advice, and helped us to stay on budget as much as possible. There were times that he would tell us how we could do things ourselves if we wanted to save money and not pay his team for their
labor. How many contractor's can you say tell you when not to give them work? What also impressed us was his team included almost everyone needed and when he had to sub-contract on specialty items (our granite countertop and island) he knew exactly what had to be done and ensured the work was up to the standard he demanded.
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
's pricing was very reasonable compared to the other quotes that we got. He clearly explained trade-offs to us and let us know where we would get the most value for our money. When problems arose he also helped us work through those in a way that added to our confidence in him. Most importantly, you want a contractor that will tell you like it is and give you honest advice. We could always count on
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
for that. He never had an angle. As a result of
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
and his team's work, the house we purchased is an entirely new home now. It is absolutely beautiful. People who saw it before do not even recognize it. And just in a few short months. We cannot emphasize how much we enjoyed working with
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
and his team and how much we would recommend working with him and his company. If you want someone who will give you fair pricing, tell things to you straight, and get things done reliably, on time and of high quality, do not go anyplace else. Renovations of this size are very scary propositions and
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
made it more comfortable for us. We are already plotting some smaller things to do with him in the next year or so.
- Mark J.

I have worked with
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
on three major projects over the past ten years or so. He had installed two kitchens for me as well as rebuilt a leak drainage system. This week, he is just finishing up the enclosing of a sunroom.
Overall, I have nothing but great things to say. His prices are reasonable. His work is great. He listens and shows up and gives perfect advice. For instance, I had a few contractors bid on a kitchen job in my new house.
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
was the only person who took the time to figure out the plumbing, which saved me a lot of money.
I would absolutely work with
Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
- ulrich B.

Washington Natural Stone Tile Provider Name Locked
asked no questions about the job on the phone, came as scheduled, looked at the job, took no measurements, and made some suggestions. He informed me that I would be responsible for getting the tile (and apparently figuring out how much I needed, since he took no measurements). Today, he sent me a brief email that he "did not realize we wanted marble in those bathrooms" and he is "not up to the challenge that marble tile presents." I wish the materials issue had been resolved on the phone so I could have proceeded with the estimate I received elsewhere two weeks ago.
