"
was awesome!!! The workmanship was top notch. They are real craftsmen -- every job was done by an expert in their specialty area. They" were thoroughly professional and really made sure that I was happy with the job that was being done. I was able to work with them to determine how to layout the tiles for the fireplace and the result is stunning. I ordered the custom fireplace doors from a company in Montana (Ironhaus -- really great company, too!) and the doors were shipped directly to them for the project. They consulted with Ironhaus to make sure that the installation was correct. The end result is beautiful.
also schedule the work around my business and holiday schedule. I can't say enough good things about this company. They are the best and I will be using them for future home renovations.

"We purchased our cabinets and countertops from
, but had them installed by our contractor as part of a home remodel. The cabinets themselves" are fantastic, and
was responsive to all our questions. There were some problems with delivery--oddly, we ended up with a cabinet piece from a different order--but they took care of it.

Angie's Answers

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

?
Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is amazing!!!! They went beyond the contract and seem to take pride in the work they do. They finished the job as agreed despite the many change request I submitted for major items like replacement of wood floors, electrical re-wiring, upgrades to amps and meter, and more than I can remember. I contracted to assess basement steps and they rebuild it. I asked them to work around a drainage pipe in the basement for a bathroom, and they rerouted the pipe and built an unbelievable bathroom. They are waiting to paint the exterior of the house for better weather so the paint will not crack. Other contractors would probably just paint without consideration of the consequences. I had some issues with the basement door which I did not contract for, along with some kitchen hardware for a dishwasher (we did not do the kitchen as it was recently upgraded, but the contractor that was hired did a crapy job, now
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
will save us and upgrade some plumbing and build a more stable platform for the new dishwasher and the marble counter top). Will I use them again...I just contracted them last week again, and ONLY trust them from now on. Kitchen work to follow. They are great. I wish I could post some before and after pictures. You would not believe the transformation of the entire house. All at a reasonable price, but more importantly, they DO IT RIGHT!!! I am proud to wear their button down shirt they provided us. Yes, the neighbors love the work, and I am sure more business will come their way after we do our house warming party.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is simply amazing. The owner
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his Chief Financial Officer,
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, are just great people, same with everyone in their business. I wish every service provided the customer support they provide. Did I mention they installed the wrong shower head...a nice one, but my wife asked for a unique shower head. They reinstalled immediately just for her. Amazing!!! Hire these folks. You will not regret it. Really wish I could post before and after pictures...you would be amazed!!! Update to follow after the plumbing work and painting of exterior of house. Did I mention they did a fantastic job on the back deck...wow. I could ramble a long time on their competence. Did I mention AMAZING enough, and yes, they take pride in their top ratings with Angie's List. Awards all over their office.

The difference between working with
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and working with other bathroom contractors that we have had experience with was night and day.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
takes great pride in his work and, as his other reviews attest, he has exceptional attention to detail.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and his team very respectful, courteous, timely, trustworthy, kind, clean and tidy, flexible, responsive...all good things. We especially liked that
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was very present and communicative. Previous contractors have indicated that they would be there, but really only came in here and there to "check in".
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was there every morning.
We barely noticed any inconvenience despite having construction in our master bath right off of our bedroom. There was never any dust or grit or stray bits of grout or tile lying out, which we really appreciated given our baby is active crawler. At the beginning of the day, they rolled out clean cloth drop clothes (no sticky taped plastic to get dusty day in and day out) to protect our floors and carpets, they took their shoes off outside the door... At the end of each day, we came home to a small and neat, covered "pile" of construction materials on our front porch, and a clean (usable besides the shower) bathroom that was in the next stage of the process.
Another thing that we appreciated about
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was that he was assertive and proactive in that he anticipated our questions or requests and took care of them or addressed them with us before we even needed to ask. I felt no need to do "quality control" like with past contractors.
Lastly, as I mention above,
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
noticed other things in our house that needed to be fixed both in and outside of the bathroom. Our front door knob was loose and we hadn't gotten around to tightening it but we came home and it was fixed. He fixed the vent that was not secured (apparently the wrong one had been installed earlier), and installed a door stopper so the door knob didn't hit the wall anymore...
We only asked for a bathtub/shower installation and it feels like we got a comprehensive bathroom upgrade. He was not the "lowest" quote, but we definitely feel like we got the most benefit and the least hassle going with him. If you want someone you can just trust to get the job done and you don't have time/don't want to deal with constantly checking in with and following up with your contractor, then you don't have to look any further. After working with many, many contractors (this is our first review for any of them), working with
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was a breath of fresh air. We look forward to working with him again for other, future (inevitable) projects.

had great references and their price was well below most of the other estimates. They also worked well and helped me work with the tile provider(s) . The job was estimated to take 4 weeks but stretched out quite a bit longer as they ran into problems removing the old wall tile. I also added to the initial scope of work.
They were very responsive to my concerns as the work progressed and addressed every problem I had.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, the crew supervisor, was excellent. It would have helped out quite a bit if I had had comprehensive floor plans and notes before the job was started -- I only had incomplete drawings. This made it necessary for me to check the work daily (except for the days when the crew had to work on another job and was not onsite) .
They did uniformly high quality work throughout. The only real problem was getting the shower floor to drain properly, and they ended up having to re-do the floor (without extra charge). It all worked out well on the end, however, and I am very satisfied with the completed job.

I was very skeptical that
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
Inc (DCI) would be able to satisfy my taste. Surprise! They, being
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, was able to provided outstanding guidance and a top notch product.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
picked my mind regarding my tastes and in particular my color palate. He provided several color and texture samples that were right on. I quickly realized
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was the real professional at this type of project, so I allowed him to guide my way. To say the least, an excellent decision on my part.
The cost was based on a tub to shower conversion which can open up several cans of worms.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was able to convert a severely outdated bathroom into a luxurious sauna theme. I had the walls and the floors replaced and also updated the lighting with a new vanity. To say the least, my bathroom went from a C grade to an A plus.
I previously had my kitchen counter tops converted over to granite and wanted a corresponding back splash. Once again,
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
came through with an excellent selection.
I asked my neighbor her opinion on the renovation and her answer was to contract with DCI and
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
.
I also passed along pictures of before and after and poof, more referrals for DCI and
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. That speaks for itself!

Contracting did such an excellent job renovating the main bathroom of our 1895 Capitol Hill row house that we asked owner
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
to advise us on a variety of other issues with our home.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
has extremely high standards. If you want to do a quick-and-dirty upgrade, I'd say he's not your guy. He wants every detail to be as close to perfect as humanly possible. For example, on his own volition, he had his people put the bathroom baseboard in twice, because he wasn't happy with the way the first baseboard reflected the historic style of our house.
Sometimes his standards exceeded our own. For instance, when he was on the phone ordering the shower rod:
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, to me: Do you care if the screws show?
Me: I don't care.
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, to salesman: She doesn't want the screws to show.
As a result, the bathroom far surpasses our expectations, from the smallest to the largest details.
Angel and
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, who did the actual work, were unfailingly on time, highly skilled and meticulous in cleaning up.

I made an appointment with
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
for a bathroom remodel. Two gentlemen arrived an hour late to the appointment. Not ideal, but it was a Saturday, and I totally understood that they were backed up on other appointments. They completed a cursory review of the bathroom and promised to send me an estimate the next week. I received a call from them Tuesday the following week, promising that they would send me an estimate on Friday. When I didn't receive an estimate on Friday, I followed up with their main number. The representative I spoke with promised that they would send me something over the weekend. When I did not receive the estimate over the weekend, I followed up again on Monday, to be told again that the estimate would be sent by the end of the day. I have still not received anything from them. Their unresponsiveness is baffling as I was going to seriously consider them for the project. Now, I wouldn't trust them with anything, much less a major bathroom remodel.

My wife and I scheduled an appointment for
Washington Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
(largely based on Angie's List reviews). They were very nice over the phone and in person but they failed to follow-up with any sort of estimate (they promised a quote within 5 business days and never even bothered to contact us again). We are perplexed. I don't have any problem with them and we ended up finding another great contractor but want to keep the integrity and usefulness of Angie's List reviews so I feel like I have to provide an honest rating. It is not professional to waste people's time on a Saturday. I would have given them an "F" but, as mentioned, they were very polite so that should count for something.
