"Overall fine, but I do think $234/window to be expensive considering the work required and the focus on extreme expediency. Great responsiveness for setting up appointment to look" over project for estimate. Punctual for appointment. A little less punctual in getting estimate to me and two big issues with invoices: asked for clarification/editing of first estimate invoice, which included work details that had to be adjusted. He accidentally sent me the same invoice instead of the edited invoice. I never actually got the edited invoice before the work started. Second problem is that the post-work invoice billed me the wrong (too high) amount -- had I not double checked the amount of my deposit, I would have overpaid. Paid a deposit to reserve a date in late spring. Bad weather derailed another project (not mine), so on scheduled date,
had to cancel. Not a problem. Summer heat and humidity set in, so we decided to wait until cooler weather to do project for better results.
offered to refund the deposit. Comments on day of work/on work: - I had asked upon receiving the estimate whether the project would span two days (I figured it takes time for primer to dry).
replied that they would try to complete in one day. So I definitely did not expect the entire project to be done in 2.5 hours (crew of 4), which created a few issues for me (read on). - Crew arrived and started working without even meeting me (they were supposed to arrive at 7, but were 25 minutes late and by that time, my toddler had woken up and I'd gone back inside); I wanted to go over a few work details. This I couldn't do sufficiently because of the awake toddler, then, by the time I got back from dropping her off at daycare (9:30), they were almost done. - I would have appreciated knowing that such a large crew for such a small project would come, so I could have decided whether I wanted the painting done in what was essentially 1.5 hours (after subtracting time to set up ladders, scrape old paint, and clean up). Even if a paint is designed to be quick-drying, I find it hard to comprehend how a water-based paint can dry so quickly. I asked
about this afterwards and he said that the brand of primer they use dries in 30 minutes. I guess time will tell whether the paint job lasts. - More on my comment above on "extreme expediency": window sashes were not opened or moved to scrape or paint beyond any exterior surface that is not immediately accessible, even if that meant that opening the window later would
areas not worked on. Even on the one casement window, for which there's easy access to the margin of the window door that sits behind the window frame, this margin was not scraped or painted until I inspected and asked. They would not have waited for the single top coat of paint to dry to ensure the window was not painted shut/could operate. I had to ask. I also had to ask for them to leave the painted windows slightly open; then make sure they could move and close when dry. I doubt the top coat was dry before the security gates were reinstalled (the tech sheet for the paint used says it needs to dry overnight), so if I ever need to take them off... in my experience, this causes the paint to rip off with the "foot" of the "furniture" that is in contact (under pressure from the screw) with the paint. - Crew was very kind and helpful. I asked for two small (each took about 5 minutes) favors: help putting a window screen back in on a different window not part of the project (required a ladder and someone on the outside, while I latched from the inside) and caulking around a loose ceiling light housing inside my living room. They were great and happy to help. - One thing
and I agreed upon before the work was that I could get some extra primer from the crew (apparently, painters are required to leave behind to the customer only the paint can of the topcoats, not the primer). They left while I was on a work call (again, did not plan for the work to be done so fast), so
had to come by special to drop off some primer, which was very nice.

"
painting did an excellent job. They arrived for their estimate on time. We agreed on a date. They arrived on that day in the afternoon and prepped the entire" unit. The following morning they arrived and were finished by 11am. When they were finished, they picked up after themselves and were very thorough to not leave anything behind. I would hire them again to paint a large space.

"AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!! This company is just out to RIP CUSTOMERS OFF! First, they overcharge. Second, THEY DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THEIR PROMISED JOBS!!! I was an idiot and" paid up front for a job that was going to take 2 days. THEY NEVER CAME BACK THE SECOND DAY!!! They kept telling me that 'something came up' and they have to reschedule. After a couple weeks I finally asked for a refund of 1/2 the money. They agreed to give back 1/6 of the money....but then NEVER SENT ME A CHECK!!! They just avoided me until I gave up. My Dad is a lawyer and I am half tempted to
this company for fraud. Do yourself a favor and AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

should painting or florring come first in a remodeling project (Photo by member Jane A. of Alpharetta, Ga.)

Remodeling tip: Should painting or flooring come first?

Angie Hicks responds to a member who wants to know whether interior painting should come before or after the installation of hardwood flooring.

Utilizing the proper tools can ensure the best paint job possible.

Interior Painting

Professional decorators say painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dramatically change the look of a room. It's also one of the more accessible do-it-yourself projects for the homeowner, though a professional interior painting company will likely do a better and more long-lasting job.

Have you ever had a leaky roof leave a water stain on your ceiling? Has your home settled over the years and you are starting to see stress fractures and nail heads popping out of the drywall?

These are the most common problems with ceilings, and unless they are addressed, they can be quite an eyesore. If you are ready to tackle the project yourself, follow these simple tips and you will have a freshly painted ceiling in no time.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!

Yes - absolutely!  Refinishing is THE VERY BEST way to go to avoid tearing out a perfectly good bathtub that just LOOKS bad after years of use.  Go to the link below for some before and after refinishing pictures of acrylic tubs.

I have to have the entire room repainted to fix the horrible job this provider did. Paint on the hardwood floor, on carpets outside the room , on trim that was not to be painted and on furniture in the room. Worst painting job I have ever seen. It was a big mistake to allow this contractors employees in my home. Never again. Its clear that you get what you pay for. This was a
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
mistake. It'll cost me three times as much as I paid to have the damage fixed. One of the painters left in the middle of the job to go get more tape. Not prepared when they arrived. Awful.
I called the contractor after and sent him pictures. He agreed that it was awful and set an appointment to come to my home the next morning to review the work and "make it right". He never showed, never called and has not, to this day, made any effort to be back in touch. I'm done with this guy and with Angie's List. You need to qualify your contractors better.

We recently retired from the Air Force and moved back into our home after a 4-year absence. Our house is only 8 years old, but we decided years ago we wanted to change the paint scheme from the original builder's single color tan paint. We used Angie's List to contact painters then met with 5 contractors. Of all the estimates, not only was C & N Painting the lowest but more importantly we felt most comfortable with
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
and
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. They completely understood what we wanted to do with our paint scheme and during the original meeting pointed out some minor wall imperfections and let us know they would repair them as part of their service. Shortly after our meeting, we received a fully-detailed labor-only estimate with an estimated number of gallons and costs for the paint. Rather than including the paint cost in the contract, they buy as needed at a reduced contractor rate and passed the savings direct to us.

came on the first day of the job to introduce

The entire crew was meticulously neat throughout the entire work day/ and carefully removed window coverings, ceiling lights and switch plate covers throughout the house. Since we were also doing other renovations and remodeling at the same time,
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
would adjust his crews' work areas based on the other workers in the home. We have a fair amount of trim throughout the house and used a few different colors on accent walls and they
Either

(or both) stopped by every morning to see how the work was going and to chat with us. They were both such a pleasure to work with and we enjoyed the time we spent with
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
and his crew. Since they've already painted our entire house, I don't expect to have the opportunity to hire them again, but I have already recommended them to friends and neighbors.
If you are looking for a pleasant, enjoyable experience with professional painters who care about what they do and how they do it, then talk to C & N Painters!

We contacted the provider for an estimate to paint/stain the outside of our home in
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
, DC. He arrived on time, demonstrated a great deal of knowledge re: painting and staining (cedar shingles), was polite and professional and spent a large amount of time explaining to me and my husband what he recommended we do. He then promptly provided a detailed written estimate in a couple of days. Finally, when we considered going with his company, he provided a contract and promptly set up a time for the painting to begin. Overall, he comes across as very professional. Unfortunately, my husband and I could not go ahead with it because something else came up.

Did a great job! They had at least four painters arrive. The men placed drop clothes on everything, moved all of the furniture to the middle of the room. The paint job was fantastic. There were some things that they didn't do that I thought they were going to do (like remove old nails from the wall) but we hadn't talked about those things before hand and my husband and I were out during the paint job. Great customer service. I would use them again.

My job was
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
enough, my house needed to be repainted. It's mostly brick but there is enough wood to be non-trivial. The estimate using three colors was $3,800. That's what it cost. The crew showed up on time and did a great job over three days. There was a slight misunderstanding about what color was supposed to go where.
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
and his guys corrected the problem no questions asked at no extra cost. It was great to work with this company.

I was very impressed with
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
, and the owner,
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. I received four quotes ranging from 3000 - 4500, and
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
came down on the lower side. The painter was professional and punctual - he covered all of our furniture with tarp and left every room clean when he finished the work. He also stayed late each day (until 6:30) even when arriving at 8:30 to start the job. The paint looks great and I am very happy with the quality of the work.
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
is very accessible over email and phone - it is always great to have direct contact with the owner of the company when you have a question.
However, the thing that impressed me the most was when I got nervous about lead paint (I am pregnant and we live in an old house) because they had to lightly fix the walls where there were cracks. I called
Washington Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
at 7:00 PM the first night of the job and he reassured me that they are lead paint certified, talked me through the wall repair process, and they would not be disturbing old paint. He was very professional and courteous about the call.
Given the price and professionalism, I will definitely use this company in the future and recommend them to friends/family.
