Handyman reviews in Washington

I received no call within the timeframe we spoke about. I placed a call to him and spoke to him. He told me the owner asked him to do additional work in his basement and that would push back his ability to start another job by another 3 to 4 weeks. I told him I'd check back with him right after Thanksgiving; he thought that would be ample time to complete the basement

. When I checked back again, he repeated what he told me earlier, not committing to the job at my house, nor providing any quote/estimate for the work at my house. In summation, he was still working on the basement

; this time he gave no timeline as to when he thought the job would end. It was clear he was not interested in doing work at my house; I never called him back. He did not contact me. I understand contractors have the final say in whether they take a job or not. At the very least I expected a call as a professional courtesy and to maintain the integrity of his company. Most contractors get jobs from referrals. I can only give you the details of what happened. I never got a quote or a call to say he couldn't do the job and will not recommend him to anyone I know or run into who is seeking someone reliable.

Trying to schedule an appointment and get an estimate was so frustrating I gave up.
I submitted an online request to schedule an appt. for an estimate. I received an automated message that I would receive a call soon. I did not. I followed up a few days later by email and received a call in a timely manner. The individual I spoke with was friendly and professional and he scheduled an appointment within a reasonable timeframe. He gave me the name of the staff member who would be coming out and he told me that he would call me to confirm and get more details about the job. I never heard from him. I called my initial contact early on the day of the appt. to confirm. He confirmed the appt. Ten minutes later I received an email from the man who was scheduled to come out, asking to move the appt. three days later. Having made plans to be off work for the afternoon, I called back and asked the original contact if he could find someone else to come that day. He was surprised to hear about the message from his colleague and promised someone would come out that day. I then got a another message that the individual who wanted to reschedule would in fact come out. He communicated en route and arrived on time. That was three days ago. I emailed this morning to ask when I could expect an estimate and he said "I will be working on estimates today." No timeline and nothing received by the end of the day. If they have this much difficulty scheduling and preparing an estimate, I am very leery of how they would handle the actual work.

They scheduler,

I had called Ant contracting. The job was too small for Ant, but Shy recommended

answered her phone promptly. She explained that she was totally booked for the next two weeks, but when she heard about my little job and my location, she offered to fit me in some evening the next time she had a job in my neighborhood. I was able to find someone to do the work this week, so I ended up not taking her up on the offer. However, she was so warm, professional, and accommodating that I recommended her to the other owners in my condo building. What a sweetheart!

answered his phone, gave me a price, and offered to come today, as he would be in Baltimore tomorrow. He showed up when he said he would and made sure he understood where to place the bar. He seemed confident that he could do the job properly. He located the stud and drilled carefully and slowly so that the stone tile did not break. He secured the bar thoroughly and cleaned up completely when he finished. He did not ask for a higher fee even though he took almost two hours to complete his work. I gave him an extra $20 anyway because I thought that what he did and the way he did it merited more than he asked for.
I had called a few home renovation firms listed under "

I've tried to use
Washington Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
services twice -- the first time to get some much-needed help painting, but they cancelled the night before (at 11:30pm) and it was too late to hire a replacement.
The following weekend we hired a house cleaner to come before the movers arrived with our boxes and furniture. Same terrible experience -- no one showed up at 7am, and their customer service line didn't open until 8am. The best they could do was get a replacement for 2pm, but since she had to climb over boxes, the job was much less efficient. I'm trying to get reimbursed because I feel cheated and will never use them again.

The first time they arrived on time and were very courteous. Unfortunately they completely missed the second scheduled appointment which they set almost a month in advance and didn't call to indicate why.
I called and had them re-schedule the second appointment, which was a total disaster. The price originally quoted was around $1,200, when they came to start the work on our second appointment they realized that apparently an error had occurred in providing the estimate. I asked them to delay work until we could settle out the new estimate.
When we didn't hear back from them for four days with the new estimate info I called them to see what was going on. The new estimate was for more than double the original estimate, for the same work. I asked them if they were at all flexible on this, especially considering the doubling of the estimated costs and they said the best they could do was promise that the new estimate was accurate. Left us with sour taste...
They quoted $800 to install a tankless water heater, which we ended up getting installed by an Angies List plumber for $450...

I supplies all the details in the above paragraph.
I also called your office and was told a supervisor was going to contact me via email to discuss this experience.

I emaleded first, then read some of the reviews on slow response to emails, so I called (soon afterward) and spoke with
Washington Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
. I told her the work that I was looking to have done, she informed me that they could come by the next week to do the work, "unless it rains (apparently the job they had scheduled was outdoors) then they can come as early as tomorrow". She called me that evening at 4 pm to inform me that they could come tomorow (Tuesday).
I took my son to his camp and when I came home at 9:30 they were waiting at my door ready to work.
They started right away, moved a HEAVY (250 lb) custom frameless glass shower door up two flights of stairs, no complaints (let me be clear, this dang shower door scared two other handymen away from doing this job). got right to work, I was downstairs waiting for one of them to come down to tell me there was a problem (because one other
Washington Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
already told me the way my bathroom is arranged it would be impossible to install). They did come down, to tell me it is DONE! wow.
Then they moved downstairs to "shave down" a super tight fitting basement door to the outside, he even asked me if I had touch up paint (which I did) and painted over the part he shaved down to finish it. The key to the lock for that door didn't unlock the door, so he went to Ace Hardware down the street, purchased a new deadbolt/lock and installed that.
The guys were courteous, cleaned up after themselves, and went the extra mile with painting the trim on the door to finish the look.
I will most definitly use this company again.

even called me the next day to make sure I was completely satisfied with the work that was done.

The owner of the business who was originally supposed to perform the work, became unavailable on the day of service.
He sent a colleague who was very skilled -- crafted the window frame from a 2x4; took his time and was very neat in providing the services listed above; was punctual.
Since I did not work with the owner, I am not sure that this review is for

, or for the colleague he sent. What I can say about
Washington Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
is that he was thoughtful and correct in recommending his colleague.
