We purchased a vintage
McCobb dining room set that needed refinishing and reupholstering. Two of the chairs were also damaged when the set was shipped to us by the seller so those needed to be repaired. ...more /> Everything came out beautifully and the entire process was smooth.
came to pick up the set and we had a preliminary discussion about possible finishes. Once he got to the stage where he was ready to stain the pieces, we met again and he showed us some samples on our actual piece (one of the table leaves) so that we could make a decision.
The table has brass trim around the edges and also on the leg spans and
painstakingly removed all of the brass, polished it, and reassembled. The table required a few repairs, which he addressed in addition to just refinishing, and he always kept us informed of his progress and if there were any unforeseen issues. He also repaired 2 of the chairs, reupholstered all 4 and refinished all 4 to match the table. He delivered everything back to our house in DC (for a small fee) and assembled our table on site.
We get so many compliments on our dining room set and we love it! Overall,
is very detail oriented and really seems to love what he does. He prices were the most reasonable we found in the DC Metro area and he does high-quality work.We highly recommend him and will likely use him again the next time we buy a vintage piece of furniture.

I was extremely pleased with the result. I had bought an old desk for $100 in a used furniture store several years ago to furnish a small apartment while I completed a graduate degree. When I was ready to move on, I wanted to keep the desk, even though it was rather beat up. The back of it was bulletin board and stapled on, and there were gouges and scratches here and there in the wood, and the original finish was a "not very pleasant" reddish business. But it was made otherwise solid and just had a lot of other nice features--a roll out desk, a drawer, and cabinet door that opened to a set of shelves that pulled out. I just loved this beat up old desk.
I checked around and
had the best price. It included pickup and delivery, and all the repairs, including putting a new back on the desk, and
.
Also what clinched it for me was an enthusiastic recommendation for the business from someone I just fell into conversation with at an evening reception (
DC is such a small town!).
They picked it up at my convenience that week and returned it as planned. And the result was just wonderful. The back completely replaced, all the hardware cleaned, and the
was gorgeous. A nice warm walnut. And the surface--I keep running the palm of my hand over it and it is so smooth and all the roughness and gouges and a few places where it seemed things were "lifting" gone.
My family and friends who saw the "old" desk are very impressed with the new. They were doubtful at first and thought I should buy a new one, but I would have paid much, much more than the cost of
, it would not have had all the nice details this old desk had (I looked and could find nothing to match it!), and I'd not have been half as attached to this desk that got me through a lot of work.
I've had the new desk now for a month and it's perfect. I've piled books on top of it, and a vase, and it doesn't scratch or anything, and everything works very nicely--drawers, cabinet shelves on wheels, etc.
also gave me good advice on how to pack it up safely for moving so it doesn't get dented or anything.
Definitely a good, reliable, experience.

***UNLICENSED CONTRACTOR*** I contacted
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
& Son before purchasing their "$699 General Contractor for Two Days.'' I asked them specifically if they were MHIC Licensed and the individual named
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
told me that yes they were licensed. I needed work performed in my new Silver Spring, MD condo. The condo association screens all contractors prior to allowing work to begin.
Before purchasing the coupon, I handed all information to my Condo Association and I was later contacted informing and informed that
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
and Son is not a Maryland Home Improvement Commission licensed contractor. I decided to verify this myself by going online to the State of Maryland DLLR Home Improvement Public Query. I conducted a licence

and discovered that they in fact were not licensed. I post this with the hopes that they will not try to scam others as they tried to scam me. If these folks conducted any type of work that resulted in a mishap, they would be very little one could do.

I would highly recommend Mr.
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
at
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
. I have a very large, heavy wood coffee table that is not an antique, but looked worn after 20+ years of use. He arrived at my home to pick up my table, and was surprised at the size (which didn't come through in the photos I sent). Despite this, he was willing to give me a reasonable price, as well as to honor my coupon from Angie's list. Because I ended up helping him move the table due to its size, he did not charge me for pick up and delivery. The table looks great! He was extremely nice and professional and I will definitely use him again.

This was a job which sounds

, but wasn't
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
. I got a restoration hardware vanity that was poorly designed with multidensity fiberboard wood and a top that did not overhang. As a consequence 2 vanities had water damage and this was the third. To restoration hardware's credit, they exchanged vanities twice.
The contractor that had put in the first two said he would not do it again, because it would obviously fail. Two contractors told me to just return it and to not try to do it again. Three contractors, including Shlomo, were willing to try, but they all cautioned me to be careful about not allowing water to go over the side and said that there might be trouble in the future.
I selected Shlomo because he seemed the most eager to make the effort and gave me the impression (correctly) that he cared about his craft and that he would do it right- the the best it could be done.
Two months later, there is no water damage. He weathered the craziness that went with this job and today (

1, 2013, there is no water damage). He is also honest- I accidentally gave him some money which he corrected. He found some mildew -in my pipes and we found some chorox and cleaned it up. I was impressed with this, because several people had worked the vanity and just left the mildew there. I had been going crazy looking for the mildew smell before he came- and he found it, told me about it, and fixed it. I would have never known if he just put the cabinet over the mildew. His daughter does most of the coordination - and she was charming. I found it possible to reach him within 24 hours of my request. And he was clearly expert in this- (by the time I got to him, I had been through a lot of discussion about the matter!!)
Anyway, if you work with him, ask him to put drop cloths down on your floor if you want them. He just put his tools, the old vanity and other stuff right on my carpet. Look at the job before he leaves and ask him to do any clean up that needs to be done. Some of the grout was in a crooked line and had been wet- but when I called it to his attention, he came back to my house at no charge and fixed it with no hesitation.
I recommend him as a contractor and encourage you to show a little more attention to detail than I did. He is an excellent craftsman but like many good craftsman, he pays more attention to the job than he does to caring for the surrounding home. He is really good.

These guys are fantastic - I highly recommend them for the quality of their work, very quick service and customer service overall. We moved over the summer and the moving company broke the leg off an antique desk that was given to me by my parents. (What was worse was that the moving crew threw away the leg, so it couldn't be reattached.) I was very worried that I wouldn't be able to get it fixed. But I called
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
& Sons and sent them a few pictures. They responded right away that they could fix it by building a replacement leg and attaching it to the desk. Within a week, they came out, took measurements and then two weeks later returned with an exact replica of the old leg. They did such a fantastic job that you can't even tell the difference between the replacement and the other legs. I am so grateful that they were able to help, and $650 seemed like a bargain for the quality and craftsmanship of the work they did.

Mr.
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
and his colleage/assistant came to our home to removed the leaf from our newly pruchased table which we found out was not so easy to remove like the store (Regency Furniture) assured us it would be. They quickly removed screws from six sets of metal bands/strips plus advised us that 4 pieces of wood were not needed and removed them too. Mr.
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
tried to remove the dried glue/adheasive areas that were marring the finish and when they did not come out with the chemical solution, he gave us a choice that he could remove them if we did not mind some very fine scratches and he tested and showed us first an example using some very fine metal piece of pad. The test area looked fine to us and he removed both areas of the dried glue/adheasive damaged areas and my wife and I were very pleased with the work,
Seeing their work firsthand and the results, I would gladly recommend them highly. The work was quick and the results were great and better than I had expected.

I got the name originally from Angie's list but when I spoke with RAM initially the gentleman said they do not do the kind of work I needed to have done. He referred me to
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
. I contacted
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
and when that repairman came out, he was only able to clean the furniture but he said his company does not do repairs. He called his office and explained that I was looking for someone to not only clean my furniture but to also repair my furniture. Pearla at
Washington Furniture Repair Shops Provider Name Locked
had said that everything could be done but once the repairman came out and explained that he/his company do not do repairs. ironically they referred me to RAM. This time when RAM called they could do the repairs. So although it was round about, at the end of the day, I am satisfied with the work that was done by both RAM and
