Washington Bathtub Refinishers Reviews

"The pre-appointment phone call included the rep getting pertinent information. However, I asked a lot of questions because I’m detailed oriented. I was also told during this conversation the additional cost that I had to pay because I had previously used a resurfacing product from the home improvement store. I wasn’t really informed that I should remove everything from my bathroom, but I decided to do it anyway. Glad that I did! The finished product was outstanding. I’ve never seen the tub look like this before. However, I think there are a few things that could be improved. First, the scraping resulted in “paint” chips all over the place including on the steps all the way out the front door. Ideally, the guys should’ve had a mini vacuum for cleanup. Instead, I was asked for a broom and dustpan. Picture this guy on the carpeted steps with a broom and dustpan. Needless to say that I worked like a dog cleaning up the entire upper floor where the bathroom is located, down the steps, the foyer to the front door. Secondly, some of the resurfacing “paint” got on the bottom

of the tile surround. I’ll have to scrape that off eventually.

"I purchased an angie's list big deal for bathtub refinishing. I was able to get an appointment without any hassle. They informed me that there would be $99 surcharge to remove the paint from my previous refinishing job. They gave me the option to remove the paint myself using a recommended paint stripper but I opted for letting the professionals handle it. I asked them to call me when they were 30 mins away which they did. My tenant was there to let them in. He said they worked hard and did a great job. It took them about about 4 hours finish the work. His only complaint was they left a little bit of mess of the bathroom floor, other than that they seem to do a wonderful job. If the paint holds up for a few years, I would definitely use them again.

was great-- very responsive to my call and to scheduling an appointment which fit my schedule. They were great communicators, confirming the appointment the evening before then letting me know if they were going to be early/late on the day of the service. They arrived promptly and were very cordial and quick at setting up work. The job was done quickly and as specified.

went a step further and honored my coupon for my condo in DC even though it said it was for

County (where I reside). The refinished tub looks fantastic- even better than when I moved into the apartment (and it had been refinished then). I would absolutely recommend them. A pleasure to work with and real professionals to boot. Too bad not all service personnel are so wonderful!

"The workers arrived on time and spent 4 or so hours finishing the bathtub. They were friendly, had no trouble explaining the services and were up front about the additional charges. At the end of the job, they told me I had a leak in the tub which was surprising because I never noticed a leak. They taped rubber gloves over the shower head and faucet and told me to call the office to have them fix any issues that came up. There was no leak and the finish dried well. There are a few inconsistent spots in the tub and part of the floor and tile close to where they were spraying have stains on them. Overall, the tub looks much better than it did and I am satisfied with the results. I've been using the tub for two months and have not had any peeling.

"Excellent! I had been trying to find someone for months who could come in and redo my shower tile which had not had anything done to it in ten years. It was hard finding someone in DC. I finally called Grout Medic even though the Angies' listing says they only work in Maryland to ask for a reference. When I spoke with
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
he said he would be happy to come do the job. He was very punctual both for the estimate and for the scheduled work. His estimate was almost 50% less than someone I had found in the Hill Rag (no surprise there).

was very courteous and asked if I minded his having a radio on while doing the job which I did not. He cleaned up afterwards and the shower looked brand new! I told him I wished I had something else for him to do. He said "just tell your friends" which is what I am doing now.

"Provider quoted price over the phone. We set up an agreed-upon date which I later moved forward by a few days. Provider was able to meet my revised schedule. They arrived on time and performed the refinishing job in less than 2 hours! The tub looks great. I would definitely use them again. This is actually the third time I have used

for refinishing bathtubs and each time they were great. I just wish it weren't so expensive to have my tub refinished.

"When we finally were able to agree on an appointment time, the tech showed up promptly.
Tech put a paper covering on the walls; non-sprayed areas of the tub with painters tape, and left it on the wall.
Instruction for the tub stated clean with kitchen cleaning, non-scratching, cleaners.
The tub appears better, if slightly off white.

"UPDATE - 6/6/13 - I HAVE SPOKEN WITH
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
AND HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE REVIEW BELOW IS NOT ABOUT
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
; THEREFORE, I RETRACT THE REVIEW IN REGARDS TO
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
'S COMPANY. I AM CONTACTING ANGIE'S LIST TO REMOVE THE REVIEW ENTIRELY.

Let me begin by writing that I’m not 100% sure if the company I’m reviewing is indeed
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
(VBR). A visit to www.virginiabathtubrefinishing.com (note: this website is not listed on their Angie’s list profile as of 9/29/13) shows the telephone number that matches their Angie’s list profile, but they
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
’t list their address on Seminary Rd. as it is on Angie’s list. A Google
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
for VBR’s 703-932-0214 telephone number leads to what appears to be a private home on Seminar Rd. As I finish this review a week later (on 10/5/13), the website above is now on VBR’s Angie’s List profile, but leads to a dead link. The name of the company I am reviewing seems to be in question (I’ll go a little more in-depth below, but Bathtub
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
seems to be it, and I’ll refer to it as BR), but coincidentally uses the same Seminary Rd. street address as VBR and that same address is listed on their website www.bathtubrefinishingwashingtondc.com with a 540-212-7044 (apparently, a mobile number).
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
is listed as the VBR contact on Angie's List, though there’s no persons listed on their website. Those listed on the BR website are

Review:
Technician Nolman
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
arrived, was professional, and appeared to know what he was doing. He also seemed to have the right equipment. Setup and work also appeared to be appropriate for the task. The work took almost four hours, which seemed long to me for a first refinish and small repair (about the size of a quarter in bottom of tub), but I had no prior experience to judge. Work looked good after finish, except I noticed two prominent "drip"
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
on the outside of the tub, and one on the inside. The technician said, "they will smooth out when the finish dries." I was skeptical, but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. This is where things went downhill. I spoke with the technician at length, and realized he was a subcontractor, as I paid $99.00 to the company via credit card and $250.00 to the technician, whose last name on his personal business card did not match what the company wrote on the invoice. The job took THREE DAYS to dry, and the drip
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
never smoothed out. After a few more days, I contacted the technician directly (probably a mistake) and he agreed to come back and repair. When he did, he smoothed removed the drip
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
and refinished those areas. It didn't completely match the original finish, but did look better. Another three days passed and the repair areas didn't dry. After another week, I checked the repairs and the finish was tacky feeling. IT NEVER DRIED, and I realized that the technician had used latex paint for the repair that never bonded to the epoxy used in the rest of the tub.
I decided not to do any further business with
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
or the technician, Nolman
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
(goes by Nolman
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
on his personal business card and his "company" is called "EJ Bathtub
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
). VBR was deceptive about subcontracting the work, unwilling to provide proof of insurance/licensing when I inquired (a red flag I should have minded) though they did offer to give me clients I could contact for testimonials and that I could check their record of complaints with the BBB. Their invoice doesn't have the VBR trade name on it (it has a logo-like "Bathtub
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
, 'Why Remove It...When We Can Improve It?' and next to that, "Bathtub
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
of
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
DC". The fine print only uses the name "Bathtub
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
." The telephone number on the invoice is and the same on their website, but not the same as the 703 listing here on Angie's List. The company name is not used in the email address I contacted from their website after I received no reply from filling out their online form - it's "info@abathtubrefinishing.com" and going to www.abathtubrefinishing.com takes you nowhere.
Bottom line: There’s just too many question
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
and they all seem to be leading (or connected in some way) to VBR. If there’s a true difference between the two companies, they should respond to this review and explain the differences, if any - and if there’s evidence of a difference, I will update it. If not, be wary of choosing VBR. At minimum, do not accept Nolman
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
(or
Washington Bathtub Refinishers Provider Name Locked
, or whatever name he uses) to do the work. Spend more money with a company such as Porcelain Tub Restorations (see my review for them, as I called them to clean up VBR’s work). There's just very little difference I can find from my research between VBR and BR, and more similarities that appear suspect. If I had more skepticism and experience, I would have been more able to vet them, despite a decent-looking website and good reviews on Angie’s List. Thanks to Angie’s List, I found PTR and corrected my mistake.

"The serviceman was 45 minutes late with a flimsy excuse but apologized for the delay. He got tight to work although he took several personal phone calls during his time but continued to work. Overall the quality of work was fine however the finish was not as smooth as I felt it should gave been. In additional after just 4 months there is a chip in the surface which needs to be repaired which I need to follow up on. Overall I would use them again.

"The company and staff are prompt, polite and responsive, but I am not pleased overall with the work, though it looks great on the surface. Within a couple of months, the tub began to peel beginning around the drain. The company was responsive to send a service person to refinish it. Either they did not seal or cover items in the bathroom or the re-do job was sloppy, because I was left with a fine film of product throughout my bathroom, which ruined a nice stainless new towel rack. Even my bathroom scale was covered in film as are some tiles. I did not follow up and have simply given up. It was not worth the discounted price to me.
