"My husband created the initial design and we got three bids based on that design. Our house was built in 1922 and we wanted quality wood cabinetry that was installed in a way that would" look as if it had been original to the house.
's bid was not the lowest but all three were in the same general price range.
was very knowledgable, offered solutions to some design problems, and we felt we could work with him.
provided the final design and we signed off. Once it had been built at his workshop,
and his colleague
, brought it for installation. This is where we got to see them work and we were very impressed. They did a expert job. Because they could not find crown molding to match the existing crown molding, they had to create it. The whole thing looks wonderful.
is great to work with at he really wants you to be happy with the final product.

"A big revelation from this project is: never underestimate the impact of a new coat of paint!! We were not excited about this project because we thought that it would not make a big" impact. Boy, were we wrong! The new ceilings, walls, and new paint made a huge improvement to our house! Part of the project included new woodwork & carpentry (door frames, baseboards, chair rails, fireplace mantle/surround). This was another area where we underestimated the impact of the new carpentry. Because of their experience with restoring old homes (our house was built in 1833), they were able to advise style of woodwork that would enhance and complement the style of our house. I was reluctant at first, but they really knew what they were doing! The end result is fabulous and historically accurate. They were meticulous with attention to detail. The name of their company fits their work, "restoration". They restore old homes to their former
. They don't just renovate or remodel. They truly restore. Part of the benefit in working with
is they start and end the project right on schedule. The project ended within a day of their original estimate. In addition, they clean up at the end of every work day. Their entire team is friendly, customer focused, professional, and a pleasure to work with.

"I would highly recommend
and JG Carpentry. First off, he responded quickly to my email inquiry and came out to take measurements the next day. I was impressed" when he came out, he brought my specifications (printed out) and some photos of past work similar to what I was wanting. He got a detailed quote to me shortly after that (it was maybe just a day or two). He completed the cases in about 2 weeks (as he'd promised) and came and installed them in just a couple hours. When he and his helpers were installing, they were professional, prompt, and clean. On top of their being great to work with, the quality of the cases is exceptional. The house is old and uneven, but
fiddled and shimmed until everything fit perfectly and looks totally professional. I had told him I would do the caulking and sanding to save a bit of money, so that wasn't included in his price estimate, but he even did some of that for me (especially up high) to save me the trouble. The attention to detail really shows. The cost was very reasonable, and he even came in 50 dollars under what he had originally quoted me. If you are thinking of installing shelving of any sort, skip the very costly cabinet places and check out these guys. The quality if just as good and you'll save a bunch. I quoted the job out to six different contractors, and I'm so glad I went with these guys. Excellent work!

There's little to say about this company except that they are the very best in the business. We had
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
and his crew install moulding throughout the house a few years ago. We were very happy with the result, and it looks great. When we decided to update the inside trim, there was no question that
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was the one to call.
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
really knows his stuff, comes in, looks around, and knows exactly what can be done. The crew was always on time, polite, worked efficiently, and followed the plan to perfection. Although the latest job was not a big one, they handled this smaller job with same care and professionalism as they had with the earlier, larger job.

showed up for a review of what I wanted done, quite promptly.....however after he requested a picture of the mantle I wanted and I emailed it to him I never heard back. I have called 4 separate times, he promised that he was getting prices on materials. Finally I asked for a response if he was interested in the project or not either way ....I never heard back. Very disappointing!

things went quite well. the framing was difficult because walls had been cut in half to allow for water proofing .
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
is patient and has an eye for the details of the work. The dry wall mudding and sanding was done until the walls were as smooth as silk, which makes a big difference when painted. He even repaired part of a door frame that was water damaged. BUT the MOST impressive thing was that on the last day he helped me clean the room that was coated in concrete and dry wall dust, getting on his hands and knees to wash the floor. He also helped me hang the heavy mirrors and flat screen TV.

In conclusion, we could not be happier with our new bathrooms. Mr
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
and his associate
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
perform very good work using only the best materials. Their finish work was excellent! Once they cleaned up and left, we had a true 'turn-key' operation; everything was clean and ready to use. We spent more money than we wanted to, but in return received a level of quality in materials and construction that we had not expected.
We would not hesitate to hire
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
again for further work on our home. They're true professionals in both attitude and performance.

and his crew did an outstanding job installing our crown molding. The quality of their work was flawless and at the same time, they completed the work in a timely fashion. I've had crown installed in other homes and both the wife and I have very high standards in terms of finished work. I am pleased to say we'd highly recommend

to anyone looking for crown.

Mr.
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
saw a job opportunity in my demo'd basement when he kindly came to check some deck joists a prospective contractor said were rotten, and he lobbied hard to get it sending me emails, printed brochures, reminders that he had given his word, etc. His terms: a very reasonable hourly rate, time/materials basis, start in early August. He was very reluctant, however, to even discuss even ballpark estimates of time/materials involved for tasks if I were to hire him. I figured it would make more sense if I sent him a detailed outline of the job but the one I sent was never mentioned again. His website emphasizes fine design and craftsmanship and Japanese building which he later told me was just a hobby. Most of my work was repair or framing, and I was concerned he'd find it frustrating but he assured me he enjoyed building and would be happy with repairs and building stud walls. When August came I contacted him but he needed another week on his current job, then another, then another. When he was finally available, I wasn’t so sure, but he protested so strongly I hired him against my better judgment. Things were okay with an attic stair install and the repair of a rotted window frame. He was great about stopping to pick up two slider windows I had found to replace the rotted one and another one and offered ideas for how to trim it. This included fairly expensive materials but I agreed as he didn’t think it would take long. Concerned about a painter powerwashing the old cedar siding and trim the following week, I asked Mr.
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
to advise as to the best way to caulk and if any sections should be avoided. Things started going downhill. Aside from obviously peeling paint, he made a strong case for replacing the fascia which was old but sound, with expensive new
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
board with the peeling rake board to follow because sooner or later they would fail. I was concerned about time and an urgent deck repair but he thought it would be a straightforward job so I agreed. It wasn’t and wound up taking about a week. He often called me over to look at something I was supposed to consider a problem, like old insulation behind the old fascia, then wobbly blocking he wanted to fix. Any handyman could have replaced them in an afternoon. 30' of fascia dragged on and on as he agonized over cuts, blaming my house for not being plumb event though he had checked the area with a level in front of me.
Meanwhile, he asked if he could store tools and equipment in my already crowded garage to "save time," but I found myself constantly picking up debris, putting away ladders including mine he left standing open in the front yard and moving heavy scaffolding he left in the side yard even when I reminded him the painter was coming the next business day. I also had to move his heavy table saw when it blocked a garage door sensor and put it on a wheeled cart.
The day before the painter arrived, he strongly suggested I replace some 14" rough sawn cedar siding to avoid water coming in if there was a heavy wind. What about the rake board? After a forceful argument to replace it, he had changed his mind when he saw the shingles were nailed to it and it would be too much trouble. But the siding... I told him it had been checked the year before and was fine but he persisted knowing you can't get this kind of cedar and would have to
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
for suitable 12" stuff. What about
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
board? I asked how long he thought the current siding would last. Until the next time I paint. How long would that be? Oh, ten years maybe.. I said the cedar would stay. But I found the proposal was disturbingly like the fascia replacement rationale and I wished I had asked this question before I had let him replace an old but perfectly good fascia.

Communication was often difficult and sometimes contradictory. I was told one idea I had was impossible, only to hear it offered as a solution the next day or he walked away when I told him I was spending too much money on stuff I hadn't planned. Towards the end, Mr.
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
said he figured out a way to level a sagging deck to meet an adjoining one by jacking it up and shimming the posts. I really needed to waterproof the deck and figured the window could wait and be painted later. So we looked at the deck and discussed whether or not to salvage the posts because of bolt holes. I mentioned I had been told by several other people the job could be done in a day. After declaring that jacking a up a deck "would take a whole lot longer than one day, I can tell you that," Mr.
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
decided he didn't want to discuss the reasons why and was going home. Back in the garage I noted the table saw was sticking out again and I was afraid I'd back into it with my car. The cart it was on was partially leaning on some scrap wood and easily could have been adjusted with a half turn. I asked him if he'd mind moving it sideways so I wouldn't back into it. “I'm not going to rearrange all that wood!" he said and walked off pushing my cart with the saw on it dribbling sawdust all the way to his truck. That evening I found the cart lying on top of branches from my lavender and elderberry bushes where he had pushed it when he was done.
A little later, I wrote the following email and include Mr.
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
’ reply.

, While I appreciate your work, this thing is costing me too much time and money. If you can bid each job in terms of hours and materials involved with a reasonable allowance for unexpected problems, offer a few different approaches and tell me the steps involved with each, perhaps we can talk.
If this works for you, please start with the time and materials it would take to
Ranson Carpenters Provider Name Locked
up the deck. Otherwise, let's call it a day and I'll mail you a check for Monday and today. Thank you”

His response:
"I will pick up my stuff tomorrow morning and bring an invoice."

Despite some hard learned lessons, I found it reassuring that each of the two firms I subsequently hired from Angie’s List to finish the vexing second window retrofit and the week-long deck job did a great job and completed the work in a single day.
