"The appointment started off poorly - my appointment was for 10:30. I was very clear about this because I had requested 9:30, but they couldn't accommodate" me so I had to do some juggling. The evening before my appointment I received a phone message from Dr. ' office confirming my appointment for 9:30 the following morning - yes, 9:30, the time I had originally wanted but couldn't get. The call came in at 4:53 and the office closes at 5 pm, so when I called back I got the answering service. I left a message, but I never got a call-back the next morning, as I had requested. So on very little notice I had to rearrange my schedule to get in there for 9:30. I mentioned this to the receptionist who acted as if it had been my mistake and not theirs. I have to admit this really ticked me off. If they needed to change the appointment time and had given me reasonable notice - the kind of notice they expect me to give them when the circumstances are reversed - I would have been happy to oblige them. As it was I did, in fact, oblige them by rushing like crazy to get in an hour earlier than I was scheduled. Acting as if I was the one who screwed up is just insulting. The exam went well - as I mentioned in a previous review, the doctor and her staff are great in person. Dr. ' neurological exams always make me feel much better, since I can clearly see for myself that I am functioning properly and have no overt signs of impairment. I'm sure that's not the point of these exams, but it is a nice side benefit all the same. I have come to the conclusion that because Dr. is a surgeon and might not perform a lot of ongoing patient care or follow-up that perhaps her practice is just not as patient-oriented as others. It's the only thing I can think of that would explain why they are so good when they are face-to-face with their patients but it all falls apart as soon as I leave the office. I was really hoping this appointment would give me the opportunity to raise the "B" I gave them last time, but sadly, I am now giving them a "C."

"I arrived at the office, was treated politely and Dr. came out to get me. He asked only a few questions about how I was doing, did a very" short check of my reflexes and the strength of my legs. I asked him to explain to me what my spine issues were, and he did so to a small extent. When it came time to talk about a treatment plan, Dr. decided that because I was overweight that I was unworthy of being treated. Although I have had to walk with a cane, now two, and have extreme leg and body weakness, the only thing Dr. was willing to do was refer me to physical therapy. He told me to go have a gastric bypass and if I can no longer walk, then call his office and he would re-assess the situation. This was neglect and I feel it was due to a personal discrimination towards anyone overweight. Unacceptable! I am now going for a second opinion and hopefully a treatment plan will follow so I don't end up in a wheelchair.

The benefit is not in "choosing" a provider that is listed on AL - it is in using AL to screen potential providers before choosing one by looking at their ratings and reading the reviews prior customers havae posted, so you get a preview up-front of what people like or dislike about them. You can also google the doctors names combined with the word - complaints - to see other blogs and comments about specific doctors - there are also a few medical-specific review sites out there. In dealing with a specialist like a neurologist, your regular general medical provider can also provide recommendations. And be sure if your insurance company requires it (almost a certainty) that you have a referral from your general doctor AND insurance company pre-approval IN ADVANCE of the first visit if you want his/her services to be covered by your insurance.

Neurosurgery reviews in Verona

He did a great job. He was very friendly and had a great bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable. He listens to the patients and is very responsive.

Dr is very direct and very knowledgeable. He is very good to explains where your at and he does not pull any he tells it like it is. Just because he is direct and to the point this does not mean he does not care about you or your health. The opposite is true since my case was a difficult one he made sure ...More that in recovery I had an experienced nurse. don't be put off by his direct and to the point attitude this is the guy you want because you want because he isnt going to lead you astray if you need help. I was only days if not hours from losing use of my legs and he fixed it. now the recovery hasn't been easy but its better then being in a wheelchair for life.

My life basically for the last 5 years has been full of doctors. My neurosurgeon, I did have continuous problems and his name is Dr. . He has a horrible bed side manner. He is good in the business. He just did not give me the information needed. He had a very bad bedside manner and after the fact that I had a 5 level spine surgery ...More and that is a lot for an older woman. I had complaints and it was just like 'don't be a baby about it'. The availability was okay, like in between. I felt very cold when I went into the office it was professional but very cold. They made me wait for a long time. It has been since suggested that I have more back surgery which I will never have but I would never go back to him.

Based on some positive ratings about Dr. on other sites my wife set up an appointment with him for this past week, to which I accompanied her. The positive aspects of the visit were that she was able to be seen promptly after calling for an appointment, the office was comfortable, and the support staff were pleasant.
Seeing ...More Dr. , however, was a thorough waste of time. He has a very impressive web page, which characterizes him as a competent, caring, and thorough medical provider. However, in person he failed to conduct a complete assessment, he jumped to conclusions about my wife's condition, and he failed to answer most of the questions posed to him (although he did say, three times, "I don't know," pausing and staring at us after this message, with no clarification or additional information in order to assist her). Dr. 's neurological assessment was quick and cursory, and based on his comments and conclusions he did not seem to have read nor considered the large amount of information provided to him about my wife's condition before the visit (including x-rays, MRIs, etc.). Overall, he showed no care about treating my wife's pain. I would strongly discourage anyone from pursuing care from this professional, as he demonstrated no empathy, consideration, clarity of communication, nor a desire to help.

Dr.Piper had been called to ER twice in the afternoon so my appt. was late--not an issue with me. He spent about 15 minutes total with me: about 10 minutes looked at the recent MRI and only about 5 minutes doing a neurological exam. He said I needed multiple fusions soon because of the seriousness (based on the MRI mostly). Since I felt my symptoms ...More were stabilized and even decreasing, I decided to get a second opinion before such extensive surgery. I was shocked to read Dr.Piper's written evaluation which included several assessments and findings that he never actually asked me about nor did he do the testing! For example, he said I had an ataxic gait (unsteady walk) however I only walked about 3 to 4 steps from the chair to the exam table. Some of the other recorded findings were not accurate in the evaluation either. He did no X but said he would do it prior to surgery. He also included a letter to my regular dr. telling information he told me about my condition, but only part of it did he actually discuss with me.
The second opinion I got was totally different. This neurosurgeon spent nearly an hour with me doing all kinds of physical tests for strength, balance, weakness, etc. He asked many questions and spent time to carefully assess my symptoms. He also looked at both my first MRI and the recent MRI side by side to compare the changes over the 7 years I started having pain. He explained the 2 MRI's to me in great detail at every vertebral level, showing me that he saw little overall change in the 2 MRI's. He recommended no surgery now unless symptoms worsened and to be reevaluated in 1 year. He also got X rays to see if the vertebrae were slipping with neck extension, which showed that all vertebrae were stable with only one moving a little. He used the X rays as further information to help him give his recommendation regarding surgery.
I would not recommend Dr . He was nice, rather reserved, but he jumped to too many conclusions without doing a thorough accurate assessment.

He seemed very short with me. Didn't want to discuss my situation..gave his opinion on my MRI films...his findings were completely different from the radiologists notes and what my referring doctor had told me. He didn't want to answer my questions because he had told us what he saw and that was it! Very rude and condescending. I will ...More definitely get a second opinion.

- Carol B.

Dr. presented himself as very professional, astute, and highly skilled and knowledgeable in his area of expertise . . . all of the qualities that are so very important to one facing a radical surgery such as spinal fusion.
I was thoroughly examined and underwent an MRI and x-rays. Dr. checked in ...More with me frequently and was great about taking care of pain management as well.
He was very thorough in explaining all of the risks and potential outcomes, all the while maintaining a positive outlook which helped to instill confidence.
The surgery went very, very well, and now I'm six months out from it, and I sincerely want to highly recommend Dr. to anyone who needs the assistance of a neurosurgeon!!!
For anyone in a similar situation, the most important attribute of a healthcare professional is that of great competence, knowledge, and skill. Dr. embodied all of those, and we are very thankful and appreciative for all of that coming into play in my situation, and many, many thanks to God as well!

My appointment was scheduled for 2:45. I was told to arrive at 2:30. After checking in, I waited in the lobby until almost 4:00 before being called back into an exam room. I had a nice chat with several other patients-two of which were also physicians (which I think were seeing the same doc-this may be why he was so late since I think he spent most ...More of his time with them and made me wait so long?) Once back in the exam room I waited until 6:10 PM until he came in to see me. At that time he proceeded to spend less than 10 minutes with me reviewing what the medical student/resident had done. He gave me NO new information whatsoever and did an exam lasting less than 2-3 minutes. I realize it was late but after waiting over 3 hours this was hardly worth waiting for--if that was all he was going to do, he could have just called. It was obvious he was not interested in seeing me and he did not want to be bothered with me. As we walked out, he commented to his staff that he did them a favor and didnt bother to order any tests so they could get out of there faster. I thought that was highly inappropriate and unprofessional.
