"My husband and I purchased a foreclosed home that had 2 gas fireplace inserts. When we attempted to use them, they smelled like they had gas leaks. We called
" to inspect and clean them.
and
came to our house during the scheduled day. They were unable to give us an exact time, but they called before they showed up.
and
were very careful not to mess up anything in the house. They took off their shoes and laid down moving blankets on which to place the disassembled fireplace items. They fully explained what they were doing as they cleaned the fireplace and gave us tips about installing carbon monoxide detectors. When
went to reassemble the fireplaces, both glass fronts would not seal. He indicated that this was highly unusual and told us that he would research the problem with the manufacturer and get back to us. In the meantime, he instructed us not to use the fireplaces. After a week and a half, I talked with
. She said that it would be over $2,200 to buy new glass fronts for the fireplaces. Both
and
thought the price was outrageous, and wanted to try something different to see if the existing fireplace fronts would seal. The next time that
was in our area, he had us open the windows and start the fireplaces. He waited an hour before he arrived at our house.
heard that he might be able to get the fireplaces to seal if they were heated.
inspected both fireplaces, and we were happy to discover that this worked to seal them.
did not charge us for the second visit. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and we would definitely use him again.

"used an angle's list deal for cleaning as we had just moved into the house. the inspector prior to the purchase of the home found that the blower equipment had not been hooked" up nor had the fireplace been serviced or cleaned. gas pro office staff was very professional in scheduling our service call. a phone call days prior to the service call with approximate arrival time certainly is appreciated the technician was very conscientious. i always appreciate it when service technicians remove their shoes upon entering a residence. drop clothes were used and vacuumed any particles that accumulated

It's the time of year when the winter weather can take a toll. Follow this winter maintenance checklist to protect your home, your car and your health.

Fireplaces

Most people enjoy sitting in front of a fire on a cold day, but there are disadvantages to traditional, wood-burning fireplaces. They tend to waste energy, require maintenance and pose some risk. Read this guide to discover several alternatives that provide the same ambiance, but with fewer downsides.

He hasn't legally abandoned the job as long as he is still showing up and doing something, even if it is very little, from time to time.  You'll have to fire him first.  Have documentation that the job is not being done in a timely manner, showing when he has and has not worked.  Be ready for a fight and probably a legal battle since he will likely still want more money or won't refund money paid for incomplete work.

Change the locks and inform the contractor their services on your property are terminated.  Tell him if anyone representing his company enters your property they will be considered trespassing and will be prosecuted.  Then hire another company to check the work he has done to make sure it is right.  Somehow I doubt it is given the nature of his work ethic.  Then have the new contractor repair any bad workmanship and finish the job.  Keep records as any documented things that have to be redone will help your case against the first contractor.

I would recommend finding a good hearth retailer in your area and work with them to select a stove that is right for your home. They should also be able to arrange for certified installer to handle the installation. Keep in mind many areas require a city or county permit for the installation, and it may be wise to have the chimney and fireplace inspected by a certified chimney sweep beforehand.

Removing the old gas insert and installing the new one was a two day affair. There was one minor hiccup with replacing the mortar (the worker went AWOL for a few hours), but throughout it all the workers from
Oregon Fireplace Contractors Provider Name Locked
and Home were friendly and professional.
The only other snag was that they missed a hole in the wall where the old gas line came into the house. It was partially
Oregon Fireplace Contractors Provider Name Locked
by our landscaping, and we didn't notice until after the workers left. Our sales rep came out that night and patched the hole personally which was outstanding.
We'd happily order from FH&H again and highly recommend their work.

I thought that
Oregon Fireplace Contractors Provider Name Locked
, being a major contractor to many of the home builders in town would be a volume business company that meant fast work, lower quality and barely adequate craftsmanship at a high price.
Boy, was I wrong!
Showroom - At there showroom, we did not make an appointment but they took care of use very nicely. They showed us all the options, wood options, spindle options, stain options.
Measures - they came out to measure our job so they could give us a quote.
Quote - They gave us three quotes to either replace the broken or damaged parts of our stairs, to replace only all spindles with iron spindles, or to replace the entire stairs.
Work Done - We decided not to half bake this and went with the full replacement.
Oregon Fireplace Contractors Provider Name Locked
came out and spend two weeks at our place to remove all the stairs and spindles in sections (we have a loft so there were safety concerns). To install stairs is a custom job, you don't have a lot of precut pieces! He customized everything and was meticulous. I felt that he was a true old school craftsman. He probably spent about a total of 70 hours on our project. We have stairs rails, loft area and a balcony. He was truly awesome.
I would highly recommend them and use them again. You don't get quality, value pricing and attentive service like this often!
Thanks team at

I called to see if company could install gas insert bought at Home Depot. Person who answered office number laughed at me and said "no one is going to install that. want to either." As a mother of three, I expect common decency. Im sorry the person was not personable or even nice, although I was absolutely polite to him. Makes me angry he would speak that way to me. Based on that interaction, I will never call this place again for any reason.

We were very impressed with the service throughout the entire process. On the initial call,
Oregon Fireplace Contractors Provider Name Locked
, the technician, was delayed quite a bit as a result of unexpected issues with the previous appt. He kept us updated throughout the delay and even asked it we wanted to reschedule. Once he arrived, and this was toward the end of the day, he thoroughly checked out the fireplaces, explaining everything that he was doing and what he was finding. He did discover that the fireplace in the living room, which we had only used once in 12 years, was vented incorrectly. He contacted his service department and sent pictures of what he had found. AZ Fireplaces researched the situation and tried to determine the least invasive approach that would achieve the desired results.
