"In September of 2014, after
and his mother
completed an interior paint job in our home,
" offered to remove our exterior window shutters, take them home to paint them, and then reinstall them, as he stated on the invoice. We paid him fully when he brought the shutters back. Due to some work on the windows that needed to be done first,
said to call him when the work was done and he would return to put up the shutters. Since then,
has ignored 3 phone messages left for him. A call to
also failed to produce a response from
. Now, four months later, we have managed to get some of the shutters back up ourselves, but we cannot physically handle the last four, so we must find/pay someone to do that for us. As a result, our feelings about the company are not positive.

-David T.

"This company is the best group of painters we've ever used. They were extremely conscientious about protecting the floors and furniture and were very polite" and friendly. They showed up on schedule and completed the work as promised. A real plus was the fact that there was a team leader on site so you had one person to go to with questions/concerns and also someone to keep an eye on the workers and the work to make sure things went as promised. The price was not the cheapest estimate we had gotten, but you get what you pay for. As this was the highest quality paint job we've ever gotten, it was well worth the expense. We would not hesitate to use this company again or to recommend them to others.

should painting or florring come first in a remodeling project (Photo by member Jane A. of Alpharetta, Ga.)

Remodeling tip: Should painting or flooring come first?

Angie Hicks responds to a member who wants to know whether interior painting should come before or after the installation of hardwood flooring.

Utilizing the proper tools can ensure the best paint job possible.

Interior Painting

Professional decorators say painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dramatically change the look of a room. It's also one of the more accessible do-it-yourself projects for the homeowner, though a professional interior painting company will likely do a better and more long-lasting job.

Have you ever had a leaky roof leave a water stain on your ceiling? Has your home settled over the years and you are starting to see stress fractures and nail heads popping out of the drywall?

These are the most common problems with ceilings, and unless they are addressed, they can be quite an eyesore. If you are ready to tackle the project yourself, follow these simple tips and you will have a freshly painted ceiling in no time.

Angie's Answers

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!
Yes - absolutely!  Refinishing is THE VERY BEST way to go to avoid tearing out a perfectly good bathtub that just LOOKS bad after years of use.  Go to the link below for some before and after refinishing pictures of acrylic tubs.

counter tops look awesome!
Would highly recommend for painting and all remodeling jobs.

We received the quote on 10/13/2014, but we're unable to start the work until 1/23/2015 due to our work and travel schedule.

still honored our quote from 3 months prior. He started on a Friday with one other crew member and carefully taped up plastic barriers to prevent the construction dust from spreading. My husband and I were extremely impressed with how much they accomplished on the first day. They laid the first coat of mudding and sanded the master bedroom and bath, they repaired the drywall in the dining and living room including other minor repairs that were not included in the quote without asking for more money. They also removed all the textured drywall from the family room ceiling. The second one day they installed the new drywall in the family room ceiling, including taping and mudding. They also fixed drywall taping in the kitChen ceiling without bumping up the quote. They were prompt each day until the repairs were complete. They were professional and respectful of our home and the quality of work was excellent. Should we have any other repairs, we would not hesitate to use them again!

Highly recommended. Punctual, well organised, very friendly. The quality of the paint used, and the quality of the finish are excellent. The

I was immediately contacted when I sent an inquiry through Angie's list.
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
came by and looked at the basement area and emailed me an estimate within a couple of days. The drywall repair began immediately when I accepted the offer and took two full days. Painting was done as I requested after I had a new floor installed. The painting was done by a three-person crew in one day.

checked in with me by telephone during the drywall repair and came by on the day of painting. The workers were respectful of my home.

Provider tried to remove wallpaper, but it was too difficult to remove, had been on walls for over 10 years. He told me this may happen when he came out to give estimate. So, he sanded and primed walls. He covered all my furniture and floors before beginning. His estimate on time it would take and the amount charged was exact. Best of all, the walls look beautiful. You would never guess that wallpaper was underneath it all. The trim and ceiling also are perfect AND he vacuums behind the furniture before moving it back. He also cleaned up all the mess when done.
- Loretta F.

My husband and I were very pleased. First, the men were easy to work around and very respectful to the interior of the house. When I expressed a concern about the possibility of the carpet getting paint on it since they were doing just the woodwork, they went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. They were delightful to have around. They were professional and pleasant. My woodwork looks brand new again. In regards to the exterior, we couldn't be happier. Each day they cleaned up after themselves and always told us their plan of action for the next day, so I didn't have to guess what they were doing. They were great communicators. I knew when to expect them each day and when they anticipated being done. Also, when they saw damage either inside or outside, they fixed the damage before painting over it, which made for a world of difference. Now the exterior of my house looks brand new! I would definitely use

Considering everything it went really well. A couple of disappointments for me, as I am a very picky person when it comes to my home and I am very detailed. They brought in a nice young fellow to help do some trim work but he wasn't as experienced and so some of his slip ups had to be retouched - but they took care of it without issue. The other disappointments was that I had to keep coming back and showing the painters the next day where they had missed little parts of the celining. Granted this is very hard to see and detect because your painting new white on top of old white (not a distinctive difference) and these particular ceilings were 12' - so that has to be factored in. Some really great points were that I had a box shaped area that needed a piece of drywall put in about a 16" by 16" area and they did that marvelously. I also had some other areas where the plaster had been kicked off the corner of a wall and the walls required a textured treatment of 'orange peel' and this was fixed great too before painting it. I think those particular painters could use a little more experience with applying the types of wall textures to blend in - because it really shows if it isn't just right after painting the retextured parts. I realized from talking with
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
Jr. that he has to

his painting details according to the customer. The job ran over schedule by a two to three days but I was able to make arrangements and I understood because it was a BIG job. Yet, all in all they were GREAT because one of the owners came out it seemed each day to check on things and the end result was really well done. Being the picky person I am they accommodated each of my items on my 'punch list' of fixes and they wanted to make sure that I was HAPPY with the end result. :) Yes, I would hire them again and I plan to do so for my exterior painting that will be next. **I am very glad I was able to use Angie's List to find them and read others reviews before hiring them.

I contacted several Angieslist-rated painting companies to solicited bids on painting the exterior of my home and doing some touch up work on the interior.
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
was one of three companies contacted to bid the job, and Sun was eventually chosen to do the exterior painting. The interior work is still pending due to other some other factors like foundation work. I made an appointment for a representative to come out and assess what needed to be done and provide a quote.
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
Brozio was assigned and showed up right on time.
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
walked the job and did a great job of assessing what needed to be done on the exterior and interior. The cost estimates he provided were very exact and greatly appreciated.
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
was very knowledgeable most helpful on making some suggestions and discussing alternatives for doing the work. Having been doing painting work for 32 years,
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
knows his business and it shows in his work too. Sun prefers

paint and applies 2-coats. They provide 3-year warranty as did the other bidders I spoke to. Sun will roll/brush or spray but prefers spraying since they can control the overspray better than controlling the drops that come with rolling. Sun, does not recommend the use of TSP for cleaning the wood prior to painting which was new to me but once the rationale was explained, I fully agreed with
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. I chose Sun to do the exterior work over two other bidders not only because Sun's bid was the lowest (33% lower than the next lowest bidder) but more importantly because of
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
's knowledge and attention to detail that he and his company take pride in.
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
noticed several things that to him indicated I might have exterior problems. Sure enough, several foundation companies I had look at the exterior recommended foundation work. Getting this foundation work done delayed getting the exterior painting done and for sure has set back getting the interior painting done since the piers have to be given time to settle. The office staff at Sun (

) worked with me time and time again to reschedule the work to accommodate an ever changing schedule to get the foundation work done first. You could not ask for a nicer group of folks to work with. Finally the time came to do the work and the fellows that came out did a great job. It has been a while since the work was done and I have forgotten their names but not the work they did; there was two of them and it took a good part of a week to do the whole house.. It was not an easy job with a lot of scrapping and preparation work. I followed
Manitowoc Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
's suggestion on spraying and it worked out great too although this too took a lot of preparatory work to confine the paint where it needed to be. I had written into the contract that I was to inspect the preparation work before any paint went on and the fellows came an got me regularly for my approval. I did not have to ask them to do any additional scrapping or priming. They did it right the first time which I greatly appreciated. I had been watching the lead guy do the scrapping so I already knew he was doing a great job!! All things considered, it was a great experience with Sun and mostly likely, I will use them to do the interior painting too. Their bid was very competitive with the other two bidders
