"This final stage of fitting the bridge anchored by implants was the last in a sequence of several appointments. Dr. has always been accommodating" with appt. times, and has explained to me every step of the long process. He takes the time necessary for a good result. My family and I have gone to Dr. and his wife, Dr. Walls for 33 years, since the children were small. The practice is conveniently located for us and the staff are friendly. Drs. and Walls are highly trained and competent. This is thoroughly professional practice with the warmth of old friends. Their practice is located in an older house. The interior has been modernized and is clean and inviting. Dr no longer works chairside, and Dr. works only Tues, Weds, and Thurs. There is a new young partner, Dr. Tropper, who seems personable and competent. He will provide the continuity and extra appt. times needed by Family Dentists.

"It is rare to find a dentist who is as thorough, knowledgable, caring and patient as Dr. . Having a very difficult mouth to correct and treat," I was most pleased with the outcome. I greatly appreciated the manner in which he explained all procedures. In addition, he is always available for emergencies . I can recall him coming to the office on his day off, with a smile on his face, to treat an issue that required immediate attention . His entire staff is most friendly , efficient, and competent , which makes going to the dentist a pleasant experience. B

I am familiar witht he ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers across the country, in particluar, the one in Overland Park, KS.  They are a "one stop" implant center.  The doctors there are at the top of their field, and an advantage is that you have all of the specialists that will be working with you in the same place.  That would have to make communication easier between doctors.  They usually offer seminars for patients and I think, offer free consultations, which is always worthwhile.

If you chose to go the other way, some Prosthodontists will place and restore the implants themselves. In other cases, an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist will place the implant and a Prosthodontist or General Dentist restores it.   Fees can vary quite a bit from office to office and with the different options for restorative materials.  Some offer free consultations, for others, they charge a fee that might be applied to any future treatment in some cases.

The first step is to schedule a few consultations with different providers, which it sounds like you've already done.

The most important factors when deciding which practitioner to work with:
.1.  You should feel comfortable asking your doctor any questions so that you have a good understanding of the procedure itself, healing time and long-terem outcome, and possible complications.  Write down a list of questions and take them with you to the consultation.

2.  Ask about the experience of the practitioner. How many similiar procedures have they completed?  Have they had any major complications with any cases?  Ask to see photos if possible.

3..Figure out if it works out better for your schedule, to go to a "one stop" provider or to separate providers for the placement and the restoration of the implants.

4. Follow your instincts.  If you feel rushed, didn't get direct answers to your questions, didn't communicate well or had any other negative feelings, this probably isn't the doctor for you.

5. Consider insurance coverage and financing options.  If your dental plan covers implants and it is important to you to use a preferred provider, you will want to check your list.  Many times, insurance does not cover implants, or at least not all of the steps.  You may want to inquire about payment and financing options.

I hope this at least helps you feel a little less confused and a little more directed. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of further help.

Dear jacknd... I was very sad to hear about the problem you had with your dentures, but not surprised. The fabrication of dentures is actually a complex treatment, and requires many steps to create comfortable, functional dentures. That is why well made dentures are usually expensive. It is not always true that 'you get what you pay for', but certainly, if dentures are inexpensive, that means that many critical steps in the treatment are omitted to reduce cost. Most people are unaware that the most expensive part of making dentures is the time that the doctor spends working on them. A denturist is a techincian, not a doctor. They can make moulds and set teeth in plastic, but they are unqualified to deal with the complexities of muscular function, and proper esthetics. To complicate things further, modern dental schools are spending much less time educating doctors about how to make dentures, since dentures are becoming a less common treatment. The emphasis is now on saving teeth. I would recomend that if you seek further treatment, you seek a dentist who went to dental school no later than the 1970's (like me). We spent a long time perfecting our denture skils when I was attending  University of Oregon Dental School. All the best, Dr. Stern (Philadelphia, PA)

Dentistry reviews in La Crosse

The procedure itself appeared to go ok. however in the months that followed it was revealed (by an oral surgeon) that I had sinus infection resulting from the extraction (left side). had "diagnosed" no sinus infection (by closing the right nostril and to breath out through the left...since no air came out, he said there ...More was no sinus infection. and said that there was now an opening in the gum/tooth root area that he could offer a procedure to repair, by taking gum tissue from another part of the mouth (pallette, I believe, was one choice), which he sketched out on a diagram for me. I was feeling anxious and asked if he could recommend an oral surgeon, which he did. (However, the oral surgeon he recommended was either unavailable to see me (at any time?) or did not want to, for whatever reason.)
long story short: another oral surgeon I consulted said he could not do the gum repair work until the sinus infection was resolved. He referred me to an ENT Dr (Ears, Nose, Throat), who confirmed the sinus infection, and "hole" connecting the oral cavity with the left sinus, caused by the dental extraction. Surgery in November (Riverside, general anesthetic).
New Dentist now, evaluated situation, and referred me to a gum doctor/denist in periodontics. Who offered me a procedure to do a graft. and did the best he could with the situation...not able to fully close the gap created, so now while it's better than it was, it requires constant attention to clear out food trapping, etc.
If I had it to do over again, I would not. the teeth were fairly "high" up, and not in imminent or threatening the adjacent teeth. recommended a proactive approach, and I regret my decision to go ahead with his recommendation. I was 63.5 years old at the time, and one dentist I consulted opined that, at my age, and in these circumstances, would 1) not have gone ahead, and 2) at least go to an oral surgeon to have the work done.
If you need upper teeth removed, go to an oral surgeon, not a dentist who would like to do this form of oral surgety.
to be fair, successfully removed my lower teeth about 10 years prior (approx). and 's other work is very good. cosmetic repair, etc. is good.
Let's just say that I think I would have been served better by a more conservative approach, vs. the aggressive ("proactive") approach chose. I'm sure he meant well. but the result, and the offer to do more oral surgery to repair the damage, just scared the heck out of me to consider going any further.

Awesome. Great care was taken to make me comfortable. My teeth look wonderful after my cleaning. Dr came in to check my teeth. He was extremely attentive. Ne noted teeth to keep track of.

The Dr.'s diagnosis was accurate (had another diagnosis with a nearby dentist) and prices very good. The work has lasted 3 years -- one filling was very close to a nerve and have had zero problems. GREAT DENTIST!
- Frances H.

Dr. Harroz Jr. and his staff did a great job, during the procedure performed I was updated verbally and by screen shots, as a patient I really appreciate this. This was my first appointment with and would not hesitate to make another one.

Simply the best ever! I had left them a number of years ago due to a change in my health insurance. When my dental plan was dropped, I immediately went back. Wish I never had to leave!!
- Margaret S.

My entire family goes to . Very very friendly, easy on the wallet and filing insurance. Have recommended to friends as well. Great place to take your family!

- Jeff P.

It was a very pleasant visit. The Dr nor Hygienist was pushy about some work needed to be done. They gave me several options and I scheduled my appointment. I also preset set my 6 months appointment Which is very important to me. I highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a new office. All the staff was very helpful to work with and filed my insurance for me.
- Susan H.

Dr. was great to work with! He placed braces on my bottom teeth (all I needed was one tooth realigned). Most people go to orthodontists but Dr. told me that he would be able to straighten my tooth and he did. I wore braces on my bottom teeth for several months and couldn't be happier with the results.
...More /> Something to note - I had gone to two orthodontists to get prices and was thinking that I wouldn't get my tooth straightened if it was going to cost $3000-$4000 to do it. In the end it cost me $1000. It was easy to make appointments and he wasn't trying to sell extra services. No pressure, just great work!
Dr. is our regular dentist whom we go to for our check-ups and find him to be very personable, accommodating for appointments, has a friendly staff, great location, and a clean modern office. Happy he is in the neighborhood!
