Milwaukee dance studio instructors talk about dancing

What styles of dancing do you teach?

Loewen: "Contemporary and modern."

Gates: "All the ballroom styles and all Latin dances."

Kuligowski: "Polish dancing."

What's your favorite dance and why?

Loewen: "Modern. It's what I've been trained in, and it's the most creative dance form."

Gates: "My favorite is the tango. It's very dramatic, challenging and passionate."

Kuligowski: "Polish, because of my ethnic involvement since age 4."

Besides learning how to dance, what are some other reasons people take lessons?

Loewen: "The social atmosphere, or they want to create something."

Gates: "Basically anything to do with exercise and weight loss or health issues. Dancing helps people through chemotherapy, it helps with confidence and learning social etiquettes. It's a way to spark up relationships [for couples]."

Kuligowski: "To learn more about the culture and background and to strengthen their interest in their heritage."

How do you charge for dance lessons and what's the cost?

Loewen: "The general cost is $12 a class."

Gates: "There are different programs at all the schools, so it's a little bit different, but the average is $59 to $95 per 45-minute lesson."

Kuligowski: "We're a nonprofit, educational, charitable organization. If people are interested they come to one of our rehearsals, and if they're still interested they stay on for two weeks and I see if there is camaraderie. Then they come on for a $50 fee."

Do you offer any types of packages? If so, can you give me a few examples and the price?

Loewen: "Sometimes we'll do a three-day workshop with guest teachers and that might be $100-$130 for three days, depending on the teacher."

Gates: "With the basic program, it averages around $275 for five to seven lessons to get the basics."

Kuligowski: "No."
