"I called
, owner and repairman of
, on a Saturday morning about a leak inside of our refrigerator. He diagnosed the" problem over the phone as a clogged drain , and he was at our home shortly thereafter. Within 30 minutes of his arrival, he had the drainage issue repaired and his mess cleaned up. He stayed around to answer all of my questions and was completely professional. In addition to all of this, I appreciate that he came to our house in
. It's a bit of a chore to actually find someone on the List to drive to us, especially on a Saturday. Furthermore, he doesn't charge for a Saturday call. In the end,
actually charged me less than the estimate he gave me over the phone. Hopefully we won't need anymore appliances repaired but if we do....I'm certainly calling

"My initial request was for the ice maker to be replaced. Upon making the appointment I also asked about having the refrigerator/freezer maintenance, my washer, dryer" and
maintenance done at the same time. Well
came out and after inspecting the ice maker said it needed to be replace ($240) and for maintenance on the washer and dryer $40 each. He said he would inspect the
for free since we were having three other appliance maintenances done at the same time. A few days later he returned to replace the ice maker. Just for laughs and giggles I went on line and priced them at $85 and it takes a whole of three minutes to install. With the maintenance on the refrigerator/freezer I thought okay $240 is not bad, a little hight but not bad. I expected thought that a maintenance would be done on the appliances. Boy was I mislead on what they consider maintenance. Yes he vacuumed the dryer lint line from outside, but did not clean out or vacuum the dryer lint area where the lint screen goes (Yes, I empty it every time I use it but some lint falls below the lint screen and needs to vacuumed out). He emptied the water out of the washer drain pump, but there could not have been much water in there since I had only just done that a few weeks before. He did not clean or vacuum the vents behind the washer and dryer, he did not do the maintenance on the refrigerator and if turning on the
and looking in the oven is called doing maintenance than I guess I qualify as being an appliance maintenance person. He did no more maintenance on my appliances than I do on a normal basis.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

The service provider was very professional. He arrived on time, in a uniform with everything he needed. He managed the repair quickly and efficiently and fixed the problem. I was very pleased and will use this company again for appliance repair.

He quickly narrowed it down to the computerboards, unfortunately the cost to repair is more expensive than the washing machine. He offered to not charge me because of the bad news - but I refused! He was very professional.

The dryer would run but would not dry, I told him I had thought it was the heating element. Turned out it had something to do with the timers. Instead of just telling us that I was wrong, Art took the time to explain everything to both my husband and I. He also gave us a few tips on how the newer washer and dryers can be a mint to fix. He did a great job and was a super person

Everything's expensive these days, with refrigerators being no exception, so you try to repair what you can. When my Maytag seemed to be "rejecting" water filters, I gave

a call. This one was a two-part process: they came out to assess the situation on 8/25, and returned with the part on 8/29 (yes, they do work Saturdays, making them really convenient).

, the repairman, was able to easily explain on the first trip what was going on (part of the mounting/housing where the filter goes wasn't depressing correctly), and the follow-up went quickly and smoothly. I'm very happy with the whole process, and although I hope that I don't have another situation that requires their help any time soon, if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to call

I called around noon on a Thursday and scheduled a technician between 9-11 for the next morning. I was told I would get a call 30 minutes before arrival, which did not happen. He arrived at 9:15, didn't introduce himself by name and took 30 minutes to give me a diagnosis/estimate. The regular service call charge is $30, so don't think that the Big Deal price discounts that part. Our refrigerator has been making loud noises and giving error messages. The compressor is hot and it recently does not cool at times. The technician was unable to diagnose if the problem is the compressor or the start system. The price would be about $250 to replace the start system and that may not fix the problem, with a compressor replacement costing $500+ if that was the problem. This is a 3 year old $800

refrigerator. Unfortunately, there was a language

and direct questions were not able to be answered like, "if the problem is the start system, would the compressor have been making loud noises and be this hot?" I don't know the industry well enough to know if I should expect a correct diagnosis off of these symptoms. It's never good to hear "we need to try this expensive repair before we'll know for sure and it may not even fix the problem." The technician was nice and I wish him well, but it was frustrating to have my questions answered with "I'm sorry, but do you want me to do this repair or not?" He did give me a tip of looking for a universal part if we want to try to fix it ourselves. So now, after an hour, I'm left with my head swimming trying to figure out the next course of action.

was very prompt, professional and friendly. He's honest, hard to find now days. We had to cancel a 2:30 appointment and when I called his office they told me they had a cancellation at 12:00 would I like that one. We did and he showed up on time diagnosed the required part, had it on his truck and did the repair in less than 30 mins. He will be my appliance guy from now on.
