"Basically I had rats in my HOUSE. I freaked. I've heard them in the attic and in walls before, had a professional
lots of traps and" close up all the accesses he could find. That worked for many years. Then they found a way in. So I found
on Angie's List, a tech came out, checked inside and out, laid the outside stations and explained that they would be lured to come outside. They're not in the business of setting inside traps, for homeowners. I was a bit skeptical this would work, so I set several traps inside, which never got anything. I think what they did is working. I have no rats inside, and I have no rats in the attic, either. They were right. It's a mite distressing that the rats eat the bait, suffer, and go somewhere to die. But the tech also explained yesterday that the poison cannot be transferred to another animal, should he eat the rat. And no bunnies can get in the stations.

"I used Angies List option to contact APS. They sent me an email a little bit later with a phone number to call. I called in and was asked for my phone number so" the owner could contact me. I was called shortly and told him what I needed. i had found a hornets nest in an ornamental tree just outside my house next to the driveway. I was told the cost is 75 plus tax ( don't know if that is with the Angies discount coupon or not) and they could come out the next day between 10AM and 11AM. They were in my driveway about 9:55. The technicians were courteous, explained they would blast the nest out of the tree and that I should stay out of the front yard for the day as the worker hornets that were out from the nest will be trying to find it. I was told the work was guaranteed until
31 of this year. I guess that would be in case the hornets rebuild the nest in the same tree. I had to go out before they started the work. When I got home that evening the nest was out of the tree and some melted pieces of nest on the ground below. Problem solved. Good job.

Pest Control Services

A homeowner's guide to hiring an exterminator or pest control company to rid your home of insects or rodents.

Mice and rats

A homeowner's guide to dealing with rodent infestation, including how to identify when there's a mouse problem and what to do to get rid of mice and rats.

Summer is synonymous with many things: baseball, fireworks and unfortunately, mosquitoes, which can ruin a summer barbecue faster than a rotten hamburger.

Three out of five exterminators agree: The worst infestations they've ever seen involved cockroaches.

If you have any doubts, fears or, above all, allergies, play it safe and call in the professionals to deal with wasps, says Goodson. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List Member Jack A. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

With proper precaution and protection, a homeowner is capable of removing a wasp nest, but don’t understand the danger posed by stinging insects.

Roaches seek warm, moist and dark places to make their homes, says Goodson. (Photo courtesy of National Pest Management Association)

Avoid that terrifying moment of discovering cockroaches skittering across your floor by following these simple tips to protect your home from infestation.

You have a lot of questions. I will try to cover them all.

First, mice can fit through a hole the size of a dime.
Second, unlike rats, mice are very small; it would take a major infestation to generate a persistent odor as indicated.

Elimination starts by sealing the exterior foundation of the home, door sweeps, broken windows, cracks in the foundation, holes around electrical service, water faucets and dryer vents.

Secondly, food sources must be eliminated. Mice only need 1 gram of food a day and they extract water directly from the food they digest.

Next, mice infestations are more localized than people think, bait under the house might not have any effect. Heat sources like refrigerators and hot water heaters are suspect as a base of operation.

Snap traps are highly effective when used where dropping are found. Use a variety of bait, peanut butter (avoid this if children are present), brownie, fruit and even dental floss tied to the pedal (nesting material).

As for the odor, look for an enzyme based cleaner / deodorizer.

If the problem continues seek the help of a Pest Control Professional with rodent experience.

Hope that helps,

Andrew Deluca

The quickest way I've found to get rid of them (as opposed to preventing them - see answer above) is to put a half cup of cider vinegar (must be cider vinegar) in a jar or bowl and put a half-dozen drops of dishwashing liquid on top of it.  Leave out on a counter wherever the problem exists. Empty and refill as needed.

Legally, it needs to be pest control - wildly boring technical explanation regarding Federal pesticide laws that I won't bother you with.  Having said that, depending on where they are located in your chimnet, you could do it yourselt.  Most wasp control products will shoot 12'-20'.  So, if they are in a lower section of your chimney you wait until dark (they return to their nests before dark) and reach up above your damper and spray the nests.  If you're not averse to being on your roof, do the same thing from the top.  Otherwise, hire a professional.

An exterminator - you have to careful that the pests are driven out of the attic BEFORE the entrance they were using is closed up, otherwise you have dead decaying animals in your attic - can cause a stench that lasts for weeks.

Serviceman rang doorbell, introduced himself and let us know he was here for the scheduled extermination. He was in uniform with company logo and was in a company truck. He explained what he was going to do and asked if we had any additional concerns. He asked about entry into back yard. We saw him at work in front and back yards. Once he was through, he rang our door bell and gave us our invoice. This preventive treatment every two months has helped tremendously with insect eradication.

So grateful that he was prompt and helpful on a Saturday. He explained what type of insect we were dealing with and the approach to deal with it. He offered to take the nest out right away if I was worried. I preferred his approach though, so we could take care of as many bees as possible. We took advantage of the special he was offering. I was absolutely delighted and would use this service again. Thank you

arrived and he was very courteous and professional. He gave me an excellent review of how termites operate and best treatments. I learned a great deal which was very helpful in determining the method of ongoing termite prevention I want to use. His company advocates the Sentricon system which I believe is very good. I am currently comparing prices and reviews on which company to use for initial installation and maintenance. If I were to go with Moxie for this service I feel confident they would do an excellent job.

They were great. The technician that was supposed to come and trouble with his truck so they sent another one right about the scheduled time. He asked me a lot of questions to figure out what i needed and then sprayed. Very pleased and ended up signing up for regular service.

I have a big Carpenter Bee problem with my home. Technician

told me that they treat the holes, but they don't seal the hole and he has never done that in the +/- 18 years working. Internet sites from universities and exterminators including

(parent company) require filling up the holes. A technician came to the house and my son watch him treat the house, but only the holes he could reach with no ladder. We have a two story house so the upper part of the house was not treated. I continuously see bees flying around the house and drilling new holes.

This was an Angie List offer that the company ran. There was some difficulty on the initial call to set up the appointment (put on hold for 10 minutes, had to hang up and call back) but that was the only glitch. They came later that day and removed the nest. They both called my cell and left a door hanger after completing the job to let me know everything was taken care of and no other pest issues were noted on the grounds.

I had a rotted wood situation (underneath an aluminum wrapped porch post) which needed immediate attention, because it was a support beam for two upstairs bedrooms. Obviously, I was anxious to have this situation remedied as soon as possible. I called the company that had sided my house 12 years before, and they were completely booked. However, because of our past history, they pulled their guy off a job just long enough to take care of my situation. He came Friday morning and pulled both posts, only to discover that there were carpenter ants that had infiltrated that area. Obviously, that situation needed to be taken care of before he could replace the posts and seal that area back up. I happened to have a flyer for Terminix and called them. Although they couldn't come out that day, they assured me that someone would be there the following morning between 9 am and 12 pm. I called their liason twice to tell her the urgency of my situation (that if my post guy couldn't do the work that Saturday morning, he would not be able to come back for a couple more weeks, at best). I asked if there was any way I could get the 9am slot, and the girl told me she would make a note but couldn't guarantee it; either way, it would be no later than noon, however. At 9:30 am the next morning, I got a call from the technician at Terminix stating that he wanted to come out on Monday instead. I was livid. Relying on their guarantee, I had forfeited the opportunity to try to solicit someone else during the past 24 hours. I cancelled my contract with them and immediately turned to Angie's List, where I found glowing reviews for

. I called and within 1 hour, they had their guy

swing over from

to attend to my problem. He worked alongside my construction guy to deal with the issue in order to get my posts installed. He sprayed the immediate area above the posts, in between the siding and the house and all around the exposed wood. He dusted it with a toxic powder. He sprayed all around my foundation and any areas where more ants might enter. He applied a gel inside my house in those areas where I had seen ants (not carpenter) before, including all around my water pipes in the kitchen, bathroom, and basement; also around my fireplace foundation, where I had once seen house ants coming in. He was courteous and knowledgeable and reinforced their phone representative's statement that I had a full one-year guarantee against reinfestation. Although

was approximately $100 more expensive than the Terminix quote (probably in part due to the short notice and on a Saturday), they were worth every cent. They were professional and thorough and THEY WERE THERE! Thank you for getting me out of a tight spot,
