Handyman reviews in Snohomish

He was booked up two weeks ahead, which could be good or bad - good providers are usually busy, but waiting two weeks for an estimate and then more time to schedule service is not always an option. He underestimated the time needed to do the work which was kind of a surprise as he's not new at this. I had some teak rails and a step installed on my front porch. The work looks good but I was disappointed that he installed a vertical board that was a bit off-color -- he had lots to choose from and chose an off-color one. He said that he picked that because teak is so expensive and he didn't want to cut a larger piece. Well, I was there the entire time and he could have just asked me and I would have told him to cut the larger piece. He also didn't have all the tools necessary, I had to go to the store to get a pilot drill bit that was strong enough to not break while doing teak [teak is extremely dense, and more importantly has some resin or something that binds to bits that causes them to break if you don't drill real slowly]. He knew what the job was, why didn't he have the necessary bit?
He also efficiently installed/fixed some ceiling lights that I had messed up and he got them working perfectly in a reasonable amount of time. And then he fixed part of a fence and an old shed door that was sticking as well as three sets of dutch doors on a barn that had broken hinges and warping and he did an excellent job on those.
Pros: Competent on a range of things needing fixing; quality work.
Cons: Must schedule far in advance

He was referred to me by a neighbor, who I trust completely. That being said, I could never pin him down to an estimate. First I asked for an estimate and he said how nothing for that type of work is firm. Then I asked for a range. He still was wishy. Then I asked him how much he charges by the hour, and he said $40. [Apparently he thought I was asking "how much do you charge to shop for me?" -- because there was a point where he asked if I wanted to pick up the materials or have him do it, and I guess his brain went back to that.] So we go ahead, with me thinking he was charging $40 an hour. I knew he had quoted $600 as the total [materials and labor and disposal cost] to replace the hot water tank, the only thing he gave me a firm quote on, so I was tracking how much time was spent on that so I wouldn't be double-charged. In addition to the items he ultimately fixed that are listed above, we were considering lighting and carpentry.
In his shopping trip he got the wrong finish on the kitchen faucet and had to go back to exchange it. He worked about 8 hours including the shopping [but not including the exchange trip] and so I figured the labor portion would come to $320. He said it would be $600. Whoa! At tht point I expressed my frustration in not having been able to get even a verbal cost commitment. Normally I would have stopped right there and not hired him but because of the neighbor referral I thought it would be OK. We had a long discussion and settled on $500 for the labor. He was respectful and listened during this discussion. He explained his convoluted system as "I don't just charge a flat rate, I charge differently for different things -- different rate for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, shopping, etc." I said "Why didn't you just tell me those rates?" He was silent. I said "I don't think you know them." He insisted he did.
I do believe

is an honest person, but that his system for rate structure is screwed up and Top Secret. I will say his plumbing work was excellent. He asked if I was happy with his work and seemed happy when I said yes. Only problem is that, unfortunately, there's more to business than excellent work. If you can pin him down to a firm written quote-range, then I would use him. Otherwise not, unless money is not a problem for you. The Overall and Professionalism ratings are a B because of the labor estimate/cost fiasco, otherwise I would have given him A on both. If I could pin him down on pricing I would use him again, but it was exhausting.

After reading all the rave reviews, we contacted Mr.
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
several times, in January leaving messages each time. However we never received a return call or message. He must be too busy for new clients, but if that's the case a return call would have been nice letting us know to move on!

We had a laundry list of items to be repaired before we could sell the house and one month to do it.

had the best price. Everything was done on time with excellent results.

Very Poorly. First I was charged for tools he claimed he required to be on the roof. Then I was charged for supplies he purchased and did not use, then charged for time to return supplies he didn't need. We are talking $100 per hour... I had sent photos to help explain the work expected and discussed the work extensively with the scheduler. I was charged for 8 hours of work for a job that should have taken four hours maximum. He only used half a package of shingles and a three by three section of plywood. The rotten wood was not removed and replaced, only covered up. The roof shingles were not cut off at the

of the roof and left hanging out. The wind will easily catch these and rip them off again. I discussed these problems, sent more photos and asked that a representative come out and examine the poor work. This did not happen. They agreed to remove the cost of the tools they purchased and an hour of work for the second trip to Lowes but refused to reduce the remainder charged even though they agreed there were mis- communications and the work was not completed as contracted. I fully expected pay over $1500 for the work I contracted for. The work was not completed, the work done was substandard and the company was only willing to repair the work at additional fees. DO NOT Contract with these people

We had
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
come to our home to give us an estimate on how much it would cost to extend the kitchen and dining room. He spent some time examining the structure and then he gave us a ball park estimate which turned out to be much more than we thought the project was worth so we decided not to do it. It was a pleasure dealing with
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a contractor.

The floor of the porch of our 105 year old home had rotted, and we hired
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
to repair it. Once they had pulled the floorboards up, they discovered the damage was much more extensive than originally thought, so the porch roof was jacked up and all damaged timber was demolished and rebuilt. The posts were replaced at my request for a more pleasing style, along with the porch railing. It was a very positive experience,
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
kept the project within my financial constraints by calling around for best pricing of materials. At the same time, the furnace (which is housed in the crawlspace) needed replacement. He coordinated efforts with the heating company to have that space open for delivery and installation of the new furnace, saving us money. i am very proud of my new front porch and am happy with the experience.

Overall the job he did was good. He was professional and he did a great job. I guess his price and quality of work was good. I thought his price was fair. I will use his services again in the future.

Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
did a great job. I called a few people looking for some work fixing up a loose fitting exterior door and a door handle that was almost falling off. This was a small job in my southern snohomish house.
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was one of the few who returned my call. He was responded quickly and didn't change a travel fee despite the non-trivial travel time involved. Afterward, he was very helpful in pointing out ways I can improve the door and other parts of the house. Overall he was very responsive, arrived on time, and did a very good repair job for a fair price. I would call him again when I need any services that he can provide.

Everything went great -- we've used
Snohomish Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
twice now and both times have received excellent work, a very fair price, and above and beyond service in terms of doing a number of little extras without charging for them, giving helpful, competent advice, and always feeling like we've been treated fairly. We'll definitely use him again for any future plumbing or electrical needs.
