Olympia Electricians Reviews
There were no surprises when the bill arrived. They charge by the hour, I had been given an estimate beforehand on how long the work would take, it took a little less than the estimated time, and the bill was accurate (rate matched what they had told me, hours matched what they worked).
Regarding paying by the hour, it helps to have a list of extra, quick, low-priority work or questions they can address if the main work you want done gets finished shortly into the last hour. This is make sure you get the most out of the last hourly period you're paying for (you want to avoid a situation where the work is finished 10 minutes into a new hour, because then you're paying for the remaining 50 minutes even though nothing else is done). But I consider this a minor inconvenience. I planned for this ahead of time, so most of the last hour was used getting this extra work done or getting some extra questions answered.
I did call two other companies before choosing
I was very happy with
professional. My electricity to the upstairs had been disabled due to a power
surge from PSE.
the issue with the power surge and disabling of the circuits to the
bedrooms. He showed me how to enable the breakers and inspected all of
the outlets as well as the electric panel. He recommended I install a
power surge protector for the entire house, as the power surge had also disabled
the electronic circuitry to my refrigerator and I did not want any more damage
done should PSE strike again! He was efficient and did not try to sell or
over sell, was not pushy or aggressive. Worked quickly and completed the
work in a timely manner. The price was what was expected and discussed
prior to the work being performed. I can unequivocally recommend Mr.
Electric for any electrical needs you may have and was very impressed by both
the response and service provided, as well as the great Angie's List discount that
was applied to the entire bill. In this day and age it is difficult to
find honest, reliable and excellent service such as was provided by this
company. Kudos to their customer care and concern!
A small detail; The estimate for the work was very reasonable, but there was some delay in getting the estimate to us.
1) There was no contractors license printed on the written estimate.
2) They wanted me to pay $99 for a "power club" membership in order to save about $55.
3) They were going to charge $99 for a permit that I know only costs about $60 for unincorporated
The first time we used SSE, in April 2012, machine, dishwasher, microwave, kitchen outlets, kitchen lights, and laundry outlets--all of which were on one circuit--into separate circuits. He also added undercabinet lights and two exterior outlets. To do this, he had to get under our 1924 cottage, with its four separate crawl spaces, and drill through two foundation walls to run the wire. It was amazing!
The second time, in September 2013, we had moved to a new house that had some unusual wiring. A fuse box needed to be replaced with a breaker box. We couldn't figure out how to turn on the outside and landscape lights. The kitchen sink had a tiny fuse box underneath it, presumably for when the dishwasher was originally installed in 1950. It all needed updating, and it was important to us to preserve the look and feel of the house as much as possible.
I highly recommend
The installer was very clever and extremmely competent in chooisng where and how to locate the various electrical wire runs and components."
