"This job couldn't have been any better.
was prompt at coming out to provide a quote and he gave me a estimate on the spot.
also" worked with us to get the Belgium block border we wanted while still meeting our budget. His price was competitive with others.
scheduled the job quickly and completed it on time. He made the entire process easy.
clearly cares about the quality of his work and makes sure that his driveways will last. In my case, he was concerned that water from a neighbor's driveway would cause problems for ours. So, he repaved the neighbor's driveway apron at no cost to us. I was impressed by his willingness to go above and beyond.

"The arrived on time and completed the drive in one day and the sidewalks and drive apron on another day. They cleaned up their work areas to my satisfaction. The drive looks great!

"Obviously H&H doesn't need another positive review, and in re-reading all of the others here my experience is pretty much the same. I got three estimates. It was time consuming" and not fun. However,
the H&H estimator was on time, fast, thorough, and the package he gave me included the company insurance and other information I had to ask others for (and didn't get from the other two, btw, at least not in the 2-week time frame I gave them). H&H price was highest -- I gave them the middle price I'd gotten and we compromised in between the middle price and theirs. So it was still higher, but I was impressed by their professionalism, references, reviews, and willingness to compromise, and they seemed by far the better value. We had one glitch in the start date (understandable because of rain, they couldn't work on a project they had to finish before getting to mine) but the second try was only three days later. Because it's a rental property I had stressed that they call me ahead of time so that I could be there when they arrived (it's two minute ride over the next hill from my house). Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I got the call, zipped over, and discovered that the crew had in fact arrived at least half an hour earlier and were already well on their way down the drive. I would've liked to have been there right from the beginning. I stuck around for the whole job. The foreman was great - actually, the whole crew was amazing. They WORKED. Nobody stopped to take a break or chitchat. It's the first time I've watched asphalt being laid and it was interesting. I always knew that it was 'hot and smelly' but it was surprising to me how hot the driveway remained, even into the evening. Everyone was a hard worker, they made the job look easy because they coordinated so well. They had to park out on the main road and were prepared with directing traffic around them safely. The job was finished within, oh, five hours or so I guess. Like magic they picked up and left. The driveway is just BEAUTIFUL. I am to call them in the spring to seal it (I don't know what that will cost) in order to maintain the warranty (2 years). It looks like a great job to me and I am so pleased. I have several other long driveways and would not bother calling anyone else besides H&H to do them all -- if I won the lottery!

If the state requires a contractor's license, then he needs to have a license in each state he intends to work in - plus state/local business licenses as applicable.

This does not mean there are not a lot of contractors who cross state lines without proper licensing - the penalties in may cases are not real severe and are just a fine, not criminal, so many take the chance.

As you say - argh  - many contractors are not really businessmen and have zero legal education, so many people get burned.

?

To overlay, with proper adhesion so it does not peel off, you first need to prepare the surface - typically heavy watercutting or sandblasting for concrete over concrete, or high-pressure presure washing and an asphalt (NOT water based cutback) adhesion coat before asphalt overlay.

Because of the prep cost, a concrete overlay commonly costs more than just tearingit out and replacing it, and if you are replacing it due to cracking and breaking up those cracks will almost always propogate or "reflect" through the new layer too with concrete. Ditto with asphalt overlay, though using a crack-stopper fabric can reduce (but usually not eliminate) that.

If just repairing ice melt/freeze thaw deterioration, a cementatious epoxy overlay can be used, though its life is less (normally) than new concrete. Usually used for limited areas like garage area pad, not entire driveways.

Asphalt overlays over somewhat deteriorated concrete can work well, but if not prepared and high-pressure (about 5000 psi or higher) cleaned to remove ALL deteriorated material, they can peel off because they stuck to deteriorated loose material rather than sound concrete. Again, can cost as much for a 1-1/2 to 2 inch overlay as for a 3-4 inch full replacement by the time you are done, because the prep work is labor intensive.

Even if this is just a surficial deterioration issue, I would talk to several contractors (site visit) about alternatives and let them bid both an overlay and a replacement (or whichever options they are inclined to bid on), then after getting opinions from all three and bids for all options, make your decision. I am pretty confident that total replacement will be both the most recommended and the cheapest, at probably about $2-4/SF for asphalt or 4-6/SF for concrete - commonly nearer the lower than higher range for most jobs and locales. If the overlay and replacement cost is pretty close,I would go with the replacement because overlays over concrete are always somewhat iffy as to how long they will last, especially concrete overlays.

For cost comparison, except in extreme freeze-thaw country, you can figure a concrete drive will last about twice as long as an asphalt one.

Called to schedule driveway sealing,as we have used them in the past several years. Got on the schedule for a few weeks out(Oct 23) and was told there was no time frame, but since we wanted 2 coats they would have to be out early enough to allow first to dry before applying another. By 3:30PM no one had come, so I called.

told me I was scheduled for Nov 4. I said no, I had just spoken to someone (

?) 2 days prior to indicate that we wanted 2 coats applied on the 23rd, and no date change was mentioned.
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
said notes showed that someone had called us the week before to reschedule, but wasn't able to leave a message (we have an answering machine.) Even if the machine didn't function properly, someone should have called again. People dropped the ball on this one, and didn't apologize. Lack of professionalism. Disappointing!
Hired another company to do the job, and it's already done (oct 28)

did a standard crack filling and

of my drive. They use a hot crack filler which I think is vital to a long lasting job. The process lasted two days - crack filling one day,

the next. i wish they'd filled a few more cracks, but I'll have to admit there were quite a few and you can only ask so much. The price was actually the highest of the three quotes I got, but not by much and given the quality of their work I had no complaints. The drive looks great.

Called and left message asking if they were still accepting
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
jobs for this season. Called back same day and said they were, and could have an estimator come out the next day, and that they could come out early this week to do the job if they earned our business. They left a message back the next day with an estimate, explaining why they recommended 1 coat, as well as information about a larger crack we inquired about, about the sealant they use, and offered their Angie's List discount. We discussed it, and called over the weekend to schedule. Came out Monday AM(within the window they said they would-8AM-2PM) blew leaves off drive, applied seal coating-none on grass or patio : ) and put stakes at end of driveway. Left a brochure with explanation of what they'd done, and other info. Since I was not home, I called and left a message inquiring about my A.L. discount since it wasn't marked on the invoice, and how to remit payment.
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
called back promptly and told me the correct price, and gave me the payment info. Very prompt returning calls, and worked carefully. Easy to schedule, liked that it was not an all day window of when they'd be here, and that they could accommodate us so quickly at the end of the season. They are more expensive(1 coat costs the same as 2 coats with other companies.) We will see how the driveway holds up through the winter, but if it does well we would use them in the future.

They had to reschedule due to a conflict, but rescheduled for an earlier day! Came on time and went right to work, needed extra asphalt, but stayed true to estimate. Absolutely great job! Wonderful to have hired, great experience

seemed like a nice guy... they started the job, ripped up my entire driveway and placed pavers down rather quickly nice job,..... and then 5 months of H***!!! This was the most stressful project I have ever did. I had a ripped up drive for 5 months, begging the a** to come back to finish the job. My entire summer was ruined!!!! I had a few parties where people parked on a destroyed driveway. I Have a huge circular driveway, and was crazy.... I had family members ask when was it going to get done.... I was p*****. I told him I was going to
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
him... I had paid some in advance... I was freaking out that he wouldn't return. I found out that he had done the same thing to someone else. We started the suit as a joint effort to have this a** to come back! This was the worse 6 months of my life. I had dust in the house from the driveway not being done for months. I called and used text messeges to use as evidence in case we did go to court. In sept 2013 6 months later starting the driveway, he returned to pave the driveway that only took one day. FYI:
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
is very sneaky, He will take your check and go directly to your bank to cash, so he doesn't cash it against his account, hence if you ever need to go after him you don't know where he banks... Lets fast forward to this summer 2014, I started to get grass growing in parts of my driveway, I had asked if he were to come back to fix this issue...told me yea yea yea... never came. So I had it fixed by someone else and then paid to get it sealed.

I joined angieslist for the sole purpose to write this review on this company. I have never in my life write a review bad or good. This is my first... I had to notify others of this dishonest person that calls himself a business person.
I have pictures/text emails... u name it I have it if anyone wants to take a look.

I purchased a daily deal the provider offered through Angies's List. The provider very quickly emailed me to set up a time to do the work on the daily deal. We mutually agreed on Sept 17th. The provider showed up early - which was GREAT for me so that I could get to work without much time away. They looked at the driveway and offered advice that we should have some of the cracks filled that were there. (We recently purchased the house and this was the first time we'd done seal coat). She said the cracks didn't have to be done this time but soon we should consider so that we won't have to replace the entire driveway. I agreed to have that done now - for a charge of $120. Since I'd purchased the deal for $75 (and most companies were charging $120-140 for just coating) I didn't think the $120 to fill cracks was a bad price.
The work was done quickly and with concern. They taped off the areas around the driveway and put up stakes with tape to keep folks off until it was dry. It's shiny and looks great heading into the winter now!

The service went well. They came and blew off the driveway and cleaned it before sealing. There was
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
and two employees that performed the work. I think it looks good. They were careful not to get any sealer on the house or lawn. They did a great job. I think they are more expensive than others I have received quotes from. The guy who did my driveway the first time (which should be the most expensive job since it takes the most sealer) only charged me $300 for the that job. Any sealing jobs after the first application should have been cheaper...but that was not the case. I am not saying that
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
price was way off the
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
....just higher than what I was expecting. However, his quality of work seemed good and he was able to seal the drive the next day...which is why I did't go back to the original guy (he was booking out 2 weeks).
As for the quality of the materials...they seem the same as the first guy. All these driveway sealing companies claim they have the best materials and they all badmouth the other guys saying they water it down...etc. etc. etc. I honestly don't know how much that is true...I am sure there are some real crooked people out there....but for my driveway the ~$300 guys all seem to have the same stuff. It goes on and wears the same....so until someone wants to actually provide facts and not just words about the quality of their product it all appears the same to me. That being said
Unionville Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
did a good job and the product he uses looks to be on par with the other sealing companies in his price range.
