Foundation Repair Reviews in Portsmouth

We thought we might have a sinking foundation problem and my husband contacted "XYZ" company to assess and give us an estimate. Well they said we needed 43 piers and tried to hard sell us, offering a discount if we contracted with them by end of business day. Didn't seem right to me so I went to Angie's list and found the lovely folks at
Foundations. They did a thorough inspection and spent quite a bit of time looking at every little crack my husband could find. The only help they could offer us was the number to a plasterer. To our relief we were informed that we merely had some cosmetic issues. These are friendly, honest folk. they spent about an hour or so with us despite the fact that they wouldn't be making any money off of us. I would hire/recommend them without hesitation. , (Do not remember the exact date but I believe it was in March)

During the initial site visit the salesman
up a "contract" for the two installs. The salesman offered up several "freebies" for both the bathroom site and the kitchen site. The overall value sounded good so I signed the contract and paid them the required 50% up front. After the beam was installed under the bathroom. I crawled under the house to inspect the work. I saw no " freebies. I knew they were to come back and do my kitchen however I wanted out of the contract b/c I had a feeling they were never going to give me these freebies. I understood these freebies to be several replacement joists.
Lesson Learned: The problem with freebies is that they are NOT on the contract. Therefore when
failed to produce these freebies I didn't have a leg to stand on in demanding that they give them to me BUT these "freebies" were my deciding factor in hiring
as I felt they offered the best value compared to other contractor proposals.
There were 3 workers at my house for a total of 3 hours for the beam under the bathroom. I felt that they had done the work too quickly and questioned the quality of the work. I spoke to the salesman and told him I wanted out of the contract for the kitchen portion of the work. He put me in touch with the owner
wanted to know why I wanted out of the contract. I told him the story and he insisted that I stay with the contract and that I would be happy with the results. At this point was frustrated knowing I have to get the work done b/c I am short on time and I just got the feeling that he wasn't going to let me out of the contract without a fight. I was on the 3rd day of the contract and had every legal right out of it. I told him that if I continued with the contract I wanted a new contract written to include the "freebies". He said that he promised I would be happy with the work when finished so I gave
the 2nd
but looking back I think the main reason is b/c I'm short on time and already have too many things on my plate.
All in all I give
a "C" b/c I feel I fell for the "freebie" trick, which was my fault. However I expect a contractor to be more honest. I was offered what seemed like a better value yet it was not delivered. In legal terms its called a "bait and switch" when you are told one thing and receive another. This is where written contracts come in handy yet my freebies were not in the contract. Also the concrete that was removed in my garage was replaced with the yellow bag quickcrete and it looks like h***. It's not level with the rest of my garage and doesnt match the smooth finish of the rest of my garage.
If I had to do this over again - I would demand those "freebies" be put in the contract (in writing). Also I would have had 2 seperate contracts written up, 1 for the bathroom and 1 for the kitchen. The kitchen being contingent on the satisfactory results of the bathroom.
also asks for 50% of the cost up front. I will NEVER again give anyone 50% of the cost up front. The government doesn't even pays its contractor's 50% up front. No one gets paid until the job has been inspected and is satisfactory. Any financially solid company should not require 50% up front.
For $7500 I expect top quality workmanship. I felt I overpaid for the amount of time the workers spent at my house for the bathroom portion. The owner did mention that the material was extremely expensive b/c of research and development. I don't believe this type of foundation repair to be new technology. However I'm justifying the price b/c they offer a 25 year transferable warranty.
The workers and salesman were extremely nice despite my concerns. I felt the owner to be a little pushy in
me from wanting out of the kitchen portion of the contract.

said that I don't have to worry. The sag on the floor is because of settling. He advised me to measure the cracks on the wall regularly and to call if there's a big change. He has sharp eyes and he even went in the crawl space to inspect the foundation. Thank you
