Home Remodeling reviews in Newport News

We bought a home remodeled by this company. Their finishing was poor. They took shortcuts everywhere. They left jobs undone and didn't finish all items on the closing list. I would not buy a home from this company again.

The complete remodeling of my home in Riverside by
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, sole owner of
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, was completed about 1 year after a fire in my home December 2012. Most of the work was paid for by our insurance company but approximately 1/3 of the costs were paid by us. This was
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
's first time remodeling a home paid for by insurance however he was recommended to me by a real estate agent that had been helping me get my house ready for sale prior to the fire. You may be wondering why it took a year to remodel the interior of my home; there were many delays from Amica Insurance and their red tape, from Wells
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
Mortgage who held the money and released it in 1/3's after lots of paper work requested, delays from myself having so many choices to make on cabinets, handles, appliances, flooring, lighting etc, and from

. Although he delayed some towards the second half of the remodel he was ahead of the game the first half of the remodel and making frequent requests for decisions on cabinetry, appliances, and flooring. I was busy at work and I would make decisions but then change my mind and then change my mind again.

then started requesting decisions in writing which I was more than ok with because this protects me as well as the contractor. I found it difficult to make decisions that would make me happy if we decided not to sell the house and also be appropriate if the home was listed for sale. Initially I chose several different paint colors which became a cost issue because paint type(flat versus eggshell) and color had not been specified in our original contract. We disputed the extra cost of this for a few weeks and finally agreed to split the extra costs($1400) between us and
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, although we felt that we should not have been charged extra for this since it was not specified in the contact. After becoming frustrated with the overall delay of the remodel from all sources, I decided to allow
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to make choices on our behalf as if we were remodeling to sell the house but still remain within the costs of our contract;
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
seemed to have good ideas on how to prepare a house to sell and was good at keeping costs within budget. He also has a lot of connections with very good subcontractors who work for him such as electricians, plumbers, painters, etc. The subcontractors all seemed to be honest, knowledgeable, thorough and all on the up and up. After we moved back in the house we had a few small issues with paint, cabinetry, and plumbing that were all quickly resolved by

and his subcontractors. He also hired a very nice lady named
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to run the office which helped increase responsiveness.
There was a delay, after completion of repairs, in getting the final money paid by Amica Insurance but held by Wells

to the contractor which created some tension. Overall in the end, we were very happy with the results, and felt that the work completed was more than acceptable, and that no corners were cut.

The initial call went well. The representative was
very polite and professional. I explained that I needed work done on my
bathtub/shower and that I wasn't exactly sure if it would need to be replaced
or just repaired. I also explained that I had water damage in the walls
behind the bathtub/shower. When I attempted to set up an appraisal appointment,
they suggested a date around three weeks from the time I called.
When I asked if I could get an appointment sooner, they said that another
representative would contact me later that day. A few hours later, I
received a callback from another representative. I don't think this call
was recorded, because she wasn't as professional as the last
representative. She started asking me detailed questions about whether or
not I needed tiles replaced and exactly what I needed to be done (though I had already
explained this to the best of my ability a few hours prior). When I tried
to explain that I wasn't at home and really couldn't answer her questions
explicitly. And that I wouldn't know the
answer for certain until I actually discussed it with a professional, after an
appraisal. She kept insisting on more
details. She said they may need to refer
me to someone else, since my job may be too small for what they usually
do. I told her that I wasn’t aware there
was a limit. She became argumentative
and said that there wasn’t any limit, but the minimum job was $475 (which sounds
like a limit to me). I’m sure that what
I need done, will be a lot more the $475, but I’m not going to go around and
around with someone who doesn’t want my business.

and his helper did a great job with repairing my Porch Area that was rotten and also replaced the Guttering in that area as well. I would hire them again for my next project, they were very good.

We were interested in upgrading the vanity from a 1 sink to a 2 sink and moving our shower and bathtub in order to create a larger shower. Mr.
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was going to install new tile floor, and a new corner tile shower. Two windows were to be replaced with vinyl windows in the shower area and a 6 foot tub would be installed and the corner garden tub would be removed. He was eager to show me the designs and we set up a date but the receptionist didn't tell him so the first visit he was not there to discuss the plans. He called me later and was able to meet with me and went over the design which was very appealing until we got to the cost of $32,800. I felt that was way too high and more than I would spend on a car and I surely wasn't going to proceed. He gave me 5 days for the contract to be valid which I found absurd that for a ticket price that high that I would only be given under a week for the price to still be valid. Personally I feel that he should have listened to our budget and tried to work within the 20K but that was not the case and so he lost our business. At this point I am proceeding with a kitchen remodel with new cabinets, granite countertop, and tile floor for less than 18k so I guess it pays to shop around.

The price was great, we did purchase a lot of stuff ourselves
(appliances, faucet etc) so the price was more for their labor and
coordination between all the different folks that need to work on the
house. We removed most of the plaster on the wall that was being
removed, and painted ourselves.

turned our tiny one person kitchen into a space that many people can enjoy at one time. There were snags along the way, it is an old house, that caused some delays, like the ceiling coming down on the carpenters, but
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did everything he possibly could to ensure the job stayed on track and as close to what we budgeted as possible. Their office coordinator
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
made it easy to contact and set up appointments with the cabinet makers and flooring folks.
The only thing we marked down was punctuality, and that was because some of the subcontractors weren't always on time. The project was slated to take 3-5 weeks, and it took a little over 3 months. This was also due to unexpected add ons, such a new ceiling had to go up and more plaster had to be removed from sections of wall.

They were absolutely wonderful to work with. They were professional, polite, and respectful throughout the entire process. Because of our work schedules, they worked around us and made it much easier to deal with having the construction going on in the house. They were punctual and made sure that every day when they left, there was no mess left behind. All of the work that was accomplished was done so efficiently, correctly, and on schedule with what we agreed on. We were very comfortable with them in the house and had no trust issues whatsoever. It also was nice that they are local and lived in the area. I highly recommend

to anyone looking to have general contracting work done in their homes. I definitely will use them again in the future!

The process was great. PRSI took on our job as a side project from some of their more involved renovations. The installation took two days with a week's time in between, largely due to our own unavailability. We did not mind the wait as we were in no rush. PRSI ordered & installed all supplies and provided excellent customer service. The only small hiccup we had was miscommunication between ourselves & PRSI. We wanted an adjustable/tilting mount for the TV and they had ordered a non-tilting mount. We made a quick trip to the local electronics store and picked up the TV mount we wanted and PRSI installed it for us. The only work that we had to do on our own was sanding/painting the patch work to match the rest of the wall. Overall, we are very pleased with the experience and the workmanship of PRSI. We would HIGHLY recommend them to anybody looking for a handyman.

We had an excellent experience with Colony on exterior work last year, so they were the first company we thought to call when we had more work that needed to be done. The salesman,
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, came a few minutes late for the appointment. He spent minimal time reviewing what needed to be done. He said that he was very busy and that he would e-mail me the quote within a week. Two and half weeks passed and I never received anything - no e-mail, no phone call. I called the office and was told she would get in contact with
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. Almost immediately, I received an e-mail with a quote. His excuse was, "he didn't have my e-mail address". I contacted
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
with a few questions regarding the timeframe of when we could get the work done, which he answered, but didn't leave me with a lot of confidence. How can you send someone out the next day to start the work, yet barely get a quote out to me because you're so busy? Ultimately, I chose to look at other options. I am so glad I did, because we chose a painter and electrician, separately, that were very detail-oriented and went above and beyond expectations.

Excellent job, the windows & trim were installed in one day, and the kitchen/bath remodel was done in about three days. They showed up right on time and did everything they said they would do and maybe a little more. They made sure everything was done to our satisfaction and the job site was cleaned up before they left. Both jobs were done on budget to the original estimate which was very reasonable. I know
Newport News Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
personally & he is as trustworthy & honest as they come. This company is dedicated to doing quality work & complete customer satisfaction. I would not hesitate to hire them again & in fact they are working up an estimate for us for replacing our front porch rails at this moment.
