"I am displeased with my experience with
. I called the company many times and
was reluctant to come back and fix the issues promptly."
deserves an D due to the following reasons. 1. Delivered one month later than promised. Paid a down payment on August 15, removed driveway and sidewalk on August 28, Poured cement sidewalk on Sept 9 , Laid asphalt driveway on Sept 16. Could not park car in my garage for 4 weeks! 2. Allows late. Said that they would be over at 10 am. Did not show up until 2:30 pm. Said that they would come back out to fix something. never showed up. 3. Safety issues. Removed the old sidewalk without putting up safety barricade and ribbon. I called and they said that they would be right over to fix it. They never showed up , so I had to barricade the hole myself. 4. Cement runoff stained the old sidewalk. Promised to power wash the sidewalk, and never completed the job. 5. Ran out of asphalt while paving and did not fill gap 4 inch on left side of the driveway for 10 feet. 6. Expensive, double the price of other companies and not worth the difference. Contract requires payment the day of the paving. Not customer friendly, would not recommend them to anyone.

If the state requires a contractor's license, then he needs to have a license in each state he intends to work in - plus state/local business licenses as applicable.

This does not mean there are not a lot of contractors who cross state lines without proper licensing - the penalties in may cases are not real severe and are just a fine, not criminal, so many take the chance.

As you say - argh  - many contractors are not really businessmen and have zero legal education, so many people get burned.

?

To overlay, with proper adhesion so it does not peel off, you first need to prepare the surface - typically heavy watercutting or sandblasting for concrete over concrete, or high-pressure presure washing and an asphalt (NOT water based cutback) adhesion coat before asphalt overlay.

Because of the prep cost, a concrete overlay commonly costs more than just tearingit out and replacing it, and if you are replacing it due to cracking and breaking up those cracks will almost always propogate or "reflect" through the new layer too with concrete. Ditto with asphalt overlay, though using a crack-stopper fabric can reduce (but usually not eliminate) that.

If just repairing ice melt/freeze thaw deterioration, a cementatious epoxy overlay can be used, though its life is less (normally) than new concrete. Usually used for limited areas like garage area pad, not entire driveways.

Asphalt overlays over somewhat deteriorated concrete can work well, but if not prepared and high-pressure (about 5000 psi or higher) cleaned to remove ALL deteriorated material, they can peel off because they stuck to deteriorated loose material rather than sound concrete. Again, can cost as much for a 1-1/2 to 2 inch overlay as for a 3-4 inch full replacement by the time you are done, because the prep work is labor intensive.

Even if this is just a surficial deterioration issue, I would talk to several contractors (site visit) about alternatives and let them bid both an overlay and a replacement (or whichever options they are inclined to bid on), then after getting opinions from all three and bids for all options, make your decision. I am pretty confident that total replacement will be both the most recommended and the cheapest, at probably about $2-4/SF for asphalt or 4-6/SF for concrete - commonly nearer the lower than higher range for most jobs and locales. If the overlay and replacement cost is pretty close,I would go with the replacement because overlays over concrete are always somewhat iffy as to how long they will last, especially concrete overlays.

For cost comparison, except in extreme freeze-thaw country, you can figure a concrete drive will last about twice as long as an asphalt one.

I called and emailed Mr.
Highland Springs Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
for an estimate for my driveway on Thursday, September 25, 2014. He returned my call on Friday, September 26 and we arranged for him to come by the "first of next week". He said he would give me a call when he was about 30 minutes away. He sounded professional and responsive on the phone but he never showed up or called again. Fortunately, I had called another contractor for an estimate on the same job, so I went with him. I had called more than one contractor to get the best price and so I wasn't out any wasted time, except for the few days I spent waiting for Mr.

. It is frustrating when a contractor blows you off for no discernible reason and I suspect I'm not the only one who thinks so. But I suppose it's best to find out before you sign a contract for a job instead of afterward.

Hope you never need to use this company's 5 YEAR
WARRANTY. I tried calling them numerous times for over 3 months before the owner
finally came out to check out my driveway slab that is flopping as you drive
over it. When he did the repair he assured me the problem was fixed and gave me
the 5 YEAR WARRANTY. After he finally came out over 3 months later, he claims
the problem is wash out...no kidding, the problem he fixed
originally and it is not covered....but for $100-150 dollars he could fix
it...quite some warranty. don't be fooled by his 5 year pay again for the repair
warranty. He will

Excellent prep and coverage of driveway area. The responsiveness and punctuality were marked down slightly only because I understood that the weather was playing havoc on their schedule. Otherwise great service that has been repeated year after year for our household.

The owner was very accessible and responsive to all the questions we had before the job. The driveway looks great. They even put it right up against the house as requested.

I originally contacted the company to fill the cracks in my driveway on 8/4/14.. They never did come for the promised estimate after numerous calls. I was told they could do without the estimate, I agreed. The first crew came on a windy, rainy day.(9/5/14) I asked them if it was a bad day to do it, they said no problem. Hundreds of leaves were embedded in my driveway under the coating.and it rained right after they left, and they did not fill my cracks with asphalt, they only poured coating in them.
They came to fix the problem on Sept 19th. When they came, they came late in the day, although I was told to be ready at 8:00am. I told them what needed to be done. One of the crew had a temper tantrum, stamping his feet and getting in my face yelling he was not going to fix the problem because he didn't cause it in the first place, and he was tired. Thank goodness my neighbor was there and witnessed the whole thing. I was scared by his actions, he really shook me up. He refused to do anything and left. I called and was told the manager would call me. He never did.
I called again and the next crew came on Oct 2nd., this time with a manager on the truck, They filled my cracks with asphalt for the first time. Very polite. The owner called while they were there and said they would reduce my bill. I would hope so, as none of the work was finished except for one filling of the cracks. All the leaf prints are still in my driveway, as well as many leaves still embedded in the driveway. It was a very bad job, which will need to be fixed by a different company next year. They did not follow through on their promises. What a mess!

Highland Springs Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
worked hard to give me a fair estimate of the costs of the job. And, maybe most importantly,
Highland Springs Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
told me that part of the job was probably not worth the cost.
The crew did a masterful job at demo and installing the pavers.
I highly recommend these guys.
Honesty. Hard to find.
