Handyman Reviews in Fairfax

I was contacted within the same day that I sent an email to them via Angie's List. They came out and gave me an estimate right away and I felt the price was very reasonable. One week later, the work was done and it looks great. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs painting services. It's a very friendly, yet professional family business.

arrived early and immediately helped us prioritize our many household projects. Those jobs he couldn't finish in the alloted time we had purchased, he gave excellent and patient advice to my wife and I on how to complete, and even provided pointers as we worked alongside. We learned a tremendous amount. Each project he attacked with artistic skill and professional expertise.
- He fixed my lousy patch job with the hole in the ceiling so that you cannot tell there was ever a problem. Better yet, he showed me what I did wrong and how I could do it better next time. He even adjusted the light fixture to be more in the center of the room.
- He fixed our amateurish crown molding installation, giving our living room a very polished and finished look. Additionally he recommended better ways to paint the molds so that the details and features would have more of a POP.
- His patch to our garage window saved us HUNDREDS of dollars. Our original solution was to replace the windows, a fix we were putting off until we had saved enough money. He creatively found a way to replace the rotting wood and buy us at least another two or three years of use before replacing the windows.
- He fixed our doors so they would shut properly, again saving us about a hundred dollars in material and preparation costs.
went above and beyond in is handyman work for our house. His work was exemplery, and his advice was great. That means a tremendous amount to my family. We have finally found a handyman company we can genuinely trust.
We are military. We move frequently. This is our home, leaving it to the care of renters means we must have a local handyman to handle those little emergencies that always crop up with a home. we've found our handyman company in Moss's Home Services. They have definitely earned our repeat business.
Oh, and
is the man with the master plan!

is always on time, always gets right to work, and does exactly what is discussed - never an unpleasant surprise. We have used him 7-8 times in the last year and a half, and have never been disappointed. The first job he did for us was to install a dog door and an outdoor light fixture, up to the last job, which was a custom installation of applied mouldings in a two story foyer. He is very pleasant to work with, and very good at communicating exactly what to expect.

and his crew were very professional. They answered all my questions and addressed my few concerns. I am very picky - their work in my opinion was exceptional. When taking the final walk through they even pointed out and fixed some things I missed. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them highly/

After calling J&W, I was scheduled promptly for an estimate. The estimator was very polite and listened to what I had in mind for the 3-hour deal. He did not try to upsell me on any additional services. He promptly called the scheduler and I was given a timeframe for 3 days later. The technician showed up promptly as scheduled that morning and got straight to work. My only complaint would be that, even though the primary task was to replace a garbage disposal, the technician showed up without any plumbers putty. Having to pack up an infant and a 2-year old to run to Home Depot was not that big of a deal, but that's the one negative from what otherwise was a tremendously positive experience. After finishing the garbage disposal in about 90 minutes, the technician set about helping to install an address plaque and to install a locking mechanism for a wood gate. Noticing that the gate was not shutting cleanly, he recommended trimming a little off the bottom before installing the lock. All around, great effort, saved me a lot of headaches. Would gladly use J&W again.

The contractor arrived on time and performed the initial tasks well. The last job to be performed - installing a new faucet in the kitchen - was were the problem started. Due to the nature of our sink location in the kitchen (in a free-standing center island) the installation required hose extensions due to the fact that the hot and cold water feeds came up through the floor. We agreed that the contractor would go to the hardware store to purchase the required parts as a part of the four hours we paid him to be there. Since there is a Home Depot 15 minutes away in Fair Oaks, we were absolutely sure he could go, buy the parts and return with plenty of time to finish the job in under four hours. After the contractor was gone for over 2 hours, we called the company. They gave us some excuse about a trip to the hardware store always being at least an hour, which would have been perfectly acceptable to us. Over 2 hours was not. A few minutes after the phone call the contractor miraculously re-appeared. We took the parts he had purchased and sent him on his way. The company called back a few minutes later and after some discussion decided to "let us have an additional hour" to finish the faucet install. We assumed the contractor would be back that day. He did not return. It's been a week now and no one from the company has contacted us. And to top the whole experience off, the receipt for the parts that the contractor bought showed he purchased them at the Home Depot in SEVEN CORNERS. You actually have to deliberately drive past at least 3 hardware stores between Fair Lakes and Falls Church.

It was difficult reaching

, but he is a nice man and offers a reasonable service. Unfortunately, he did not closely supervise his crew and they started work in the wrong room inside the house. The finished job (inside and out) was mediocre, and the front yard was an absolute mess (paint, screws, wrappers, plants which had been stepped on). The screw covers were not placed on one shutter when the job was "finished", and it took over 6 weeks for them to come back and finish the job and pick up their final payment. I should have read the reviews on Angie's List before hiring them.

Overall the work was done well. The light fixtures/electrical work was excellent. They did an excellent job replacing and matching the hardwood floors. They discovered underlying termite damage in the basement which they were flexible enough to also add on and repair. Unfortunately they had to come back and redo the coating on the floor due to some grit getting into the finish but the end product is excellent. The fix to the wall damage in the laundry room was done well also. The bath room refurbishment was a little less successful. Unfortunately they missed an area of damaged wall above the entry door and had to return to fix that. In the end the bathroom work was done well. We never had any problems with getting timely correction which is much better service than we have had with other contractors in the past. They seemed to want to do the job well which was refreshing.
They came on time as promised and were very professional in dealing with the work and us. Overall it was a good experience. We bought a package of hours. They were very responsive setting up an appointment and going through the work. In the end we agreed on a package of work that fit the hours that we purchased. There was some ambiguity in the agreement but in the end we are satisfied with the service performed and the amount charged. We would be willing to use this contractor again.

We 'bought' a coupon for 4 hours of handyman work . We needed a few things done such as installing a new toilet paper holder, repairing some dry wall (6'x4') and painting that area, securing an outside outlet, and putting in a mailbox. The gentleman who came to give us an estimate wanted to charge us $2500 in addition to our $199 4 hour payment that we purchased via Angie's
List. He also told my husband "we are not hurting for work". When I called the office to say that we did not want to pay that much and that we would just want them to do the mailbox, the woman said she would email or call me back that day. I never heard back. I called four days later and after being on hold for a while, I was told that the soonest they could come out to install the mailbox and post would be

23rd. (We purchased the coupon in May, they came to give us an estimate on 6/18, and now they tell us they could not schedule us until 7/23). Do not use them for handyman services, I do not think they care to provide what was advertised. They want big bucks for small projects.

was extremely responsive when we first contacted him. He came out the same day to take a look at what was going on. Once he had the

to see, he told us that he would get us a quote. A week went by and we hadn't heard anything. I contacted him asking when we would get the quote and he kept telling me that he would get it to me soon. Finally, he told me he would get it to me by a certain date. That date came and went. A few days later, I contacted him and asked him to either let us know if he was unable to do the work or provide us the actual quote. It has been over a week and I have not heard back from him.
