Electrical reviews in Fairfax

The first attempt wasn't successful because of not having the necessary equipment. I am thankful that they came back that saime day to finish the job because we'd been without a working kitchen sink for 6 days! I was disappointed when I found out that the problem earlier in the day was an equipment issue -- that seems a little strange not to have the proper heads for a snake if you're in that line of work (no pun intented!) I really appreciated that they didn't charge me extra for the supervisor coming out and finishing the job. Had they charged me, I would not have been giving them the rating I am. I also appreciated how they looked at our disposal, water heater and gave recommendations but were not pushy or prone to say things that would make me panic into a decision. They also gave us a quote on a bigger job and gave us two options on how to proceed with that job. We did not choose them for the bigger job but they were a close 2nd. Price wasn't the issue.

Outstanding from moment of deal purchase to end of job.

's contacted me immediately to schedule service. Tech arrived on time afer having called to let me know he was on his way. Tech assessed job, pulled materials and set to work. He was extremely careful & professional as he worked so that the job was as unsightly as he could make it. He wasted no time doing the work. He did a final walk thru with me to show where he worked and to see if I had any questions. I could not be more pleased with the job and the company.

Scheduled my service appointment via telephone. I took the day off to be home for the service appointment but he didn't show up. When I called the provider to find out if he was running late he said he thought our appointment was scheduled for the next day. It was a clerical error on his part as I was going to be out of town on business the day he thought we were scheduled for. He did apologize and said that it happens once or twice a year. I was disappointed but understanding. These things do happen. We rescheduled the service appointment for later that same week.
The electrician arrived to the rescheduled service appointment on time. He spent 1 hour attempting to troubleshoot the root cause of my electrical outlets that had stopped working. He was very methodical and tested all the outlets and the circuit panel and used diagnostic equipment to send a signal through the wires but he said there was a lot of cross talk in the wires and he couldn't figure it out. He said some days are like that and that generally the diagnostic equipment is very reliable. I told him about the squirrel problem we had in our attic the year before that we had taken care. The squirrels had gotten into our attic right above my office that was experiencing the outlet problems. He didn't bother to check the attic and I didn't press the issue with him. After 1 hour he said he was giving up and that he wouldn't charge us for the service visit and that he'd like to know the root cause of the open circuit if I ever found out what it was. He said if it was his house he'd start drilling holes in the walls to physically

the circuit back to the source of the problem but that obviously he couldn't go tearing my house up. I could tell he was just as disappointed as I was that he couldn't figure it out.
We hired another electrician from a different company to come out. He found the problem in 15 minutes. The squirrels that had gotten into our attic had chewed through the insulation on the electrical wires and caused a small fire that caused the wire to break. He said we were "this close" to our house burning to the ground! Thank goodness the new electrician bothered to get his ladder out and

in our dusty attic! I feel like a horrible person for not paying more attention to this issue and putting my family at risk but I'm also supremely disappointed that the professional electrician from

didn't find the problem and correct it the first time.

I tried to contact this provider through Angie's List but I received no response via My Messages. So the next day I called them and sent them a service request form via their website. Later that same day I got an e-mail apologizing for the delayed response and asking me to call them back to get on their schedule. The next morning I called and scheduled a service appointment for them to arrive 3 business days later between 1pm and 3pm.
Just before 3pm on the day of the appointment they called to say their current job was running late but they would be sending over an electrician who could be there in 30-45 minutes. At 3:30pm the doorbell rang and I was greeted by a nice gentleman who asked me to describe the problem. I informed them of all the details and the fact that I had previously hired another electrician from a different company to fix the problem but that other guy worked for 1 hour and failed to find the problem and gave up. That other electrician told me to let him know if I ever found out what the root cause was!
After 10 minutes of troubleshooting the technician from

asked to see the attic. 10 minutes later he came back down saying he'd found the problem and we were "this close" to our house burning down due to electrical wires with exposed insulation caused by squirrels that had gotten into our attic. He snapped a picture with his cell phone to show me and he also showed me the burnt wires he replaced when the job was completed. Thank goodness he made the effort to look in our dusty attic! He installed a box and replaced the damaged wiring and informed us of next steps to take to avoid recurrence of the problem. I am very thankful that our house didn't burn down and that

Very well. The company was very responsive when I called and described the problem and scheduled quickly. And they offered a better price than two other estimates. The installer was on time, polite, and did a very good job. Would hire them again.

Scheduled installation, and chatted with business owner prior to to discuss number of lights necessary to room size. He was very helpful. Installer was polite and prompt; however, it was later discovered that he inadvertently stripped an adjacent wire. Once the issue was discovered the owner, very promptly rectified the situation the next day; and paid to have the drywall repaired for free and followed up on a what ended up being an unrelated electrical issue. So, while I was not happy with the mistake, given the possible consequences; I couldnt be happier with the response once discovered.

Overall, the service is professional and knowledgeable, but pricey. When scheduling the appointment, they state the electrician(s) will price the job once they arrive, and you can decide if you want the service performed or not. This sounds great in practice; but makes it really hard to compare one company's price to another as you have nothing to compare the price to.
I just purchased a house and had a number of electrical items I wanted repaired. To repair all the items would have cost over $2000. After the estimate, I agreed to have the three items above completed.
Installing the ceiling fan cost was pricey. I've seen other highly rated firms charge less, I'd recommend shopping around for this service.
Installing the three way switch cost nearly as much as installing the fan, but there was much more work involved. For the fee, the electricians removed three old sets of wire from the boxes, changed the former item the switch controlled (wall sockets in various rooms) to being always on instead of being controlled by the switch, and pulled in new wires. They noted that the old wire was bare in spots (it looked to have been stripped when previously installed). They had to go into the hot attic to remove the old wire / install the new wire. This repair was made professionally and with care to be aesthetically pleasing.
My issue is with the third item; troubleshooting another three way light. I noticed that the two switches didn't seem to talk to each other properly. The electrician opened both covers, pulled out the switches and in about 10 seconds noted the problem... that the wire connecting the two switches was disconnected from one of the two switches. He literally repaired the problem in 10 seconds, and charged over three digits $$$ for the service. That seems excessive, especially since this was the third item repaired, and they were there anyway. When I noted that the price seemed high, the electrician shared a story about an HVAC friend charging $600 to repair something at a commercial property that was similarly easy. He also said "you're paying me for my knowledge and experience, not my time." Though I appreciated the analogy, that doesn't really address the fact that the charge for this item is extreme based on the time of service on this repair. When asked, he did explain what he repaired, so I now have knowledge on how a three way switch works.
I know there's a cost for having an experienced electrician come to repair an item; that's why I hired an electrician, vice a handy-man service or other provider. Seeing the stripped wire from the earlier repair justified hiring an electrician, it's just the price from this provider that's the issue.
Again, great service; very high price.

Overall, we were impressed by the services provided by
Fairfax Electricians Provider Name Locked
and their subcontractor. The plumber, although he arrived substantially later than expected, was professional and honest with his recommendations--he recommended against the disposal installation we'd originally requested due to upcoming changes in plumbing code and also explained how the ventilation in our bathroom was indeed sufficient. His work on the sinks to make them straight pipe instead of the easily-clogging flex pipe that was originally installed was great.

' second service provided was electrical work to replace our lighting with recessed lighting. The pricing for this service was a bit higher than expected since they charged for things like removing existing lighting, which we did not expect, but was pretty reasonable. The electrician was also a professional and honest broker, providing recommendations for more economical ways to do things like ground a bathroom outlet (he recommended installing a GCFI), and the lighting looks great. My only quibble is that
Fairfax Electricians Provider Name Locked
did not tell us until the service was being performed that drywall repair was not included, but that might have been something I should have known before.
Speaking of drywall repair, we used one of

' subcontractors, DE Contracting, for our drywall repairs and painting. They were well-priced and arrived on time, although their attention to detail when scheduling was lacking (I received several calls trying to schedule service despite having told their scheduler that I'd be on vacation until the end of the month). Their work was great and professionally-done.

The electrician showed up on time and was polite and knowledgeable. We purchased a Big Deal for $99 for $200 worth of service. The job ended up costing more, so we had to pay on top of that, but we were happy with the result.

This provider was phenomenal. They had provided us a quote and the actual cost came in less than the original quote. The workers showed up on time and were extremely courteous. The fans were installed that morning and they even wired one room so that it would be easy to accommodate a future remodel. We were extremely pleased with their service!
