"After buying a house with seriously overgrown landscaping, I called
and asked him to get everything under control. He investigated a bit" and then recommended a specific arborist, because he felt that the task required more plant expertise than his crew had. (The arborist turned out to be really good.) I then asked him about aerating and reseeding the lawn, but he felt that the lawn was actually in really good shape and didn't need reseeding, and that it was better to aerate in the spring. I was absolutely amazed that he willingly turned down work during 'the slow season,' because he felt it didn't need doing. Wow! I'll be calling him as soon as spring comes.

-Joseph J.

"He just used the trimmer to trim the edges, winter grass and weeds. He used the blower to clean up the driveway. He was not going to charge me for that. He said" it was not much, but I gave him $20. He is a very honest man. He had come 2 weeks earlier to treat the weeds. I will be using him for a bi-weekly lawn mowing service

How to Get Rid of Springtails

One of the most effective ways to control springtails is to dry out the infested area. Springtails require a high-moisture environment to breed and thrive, living mostly off of algaes that grow in moist conditions. They will either leave the infested area or die out. If there is an infestation that cannot be controlled by drying out the infested area, use an appropriately labeled insecticide with a residual time These will typically be a liquid concentrate form, a wet-able powder form, or a dust product.  DO NOT APPLY UNTIL AREAS ARE DRY.  If area will not dry naturally, use Corn Starch to soak-up any lingering moisture and otherwise 'steer' any rain water or irrigation away from area.

Also, if there is a noticed springtail infestation around the perimeter of the structure, use the insecticide to do a barrier treatment and apply corn starch to reduce or eliminate moisture. Caulk and seal all cracks and crevices and inspect potted plants before they are brought into the house.

I would talk to your local lawn and garden supply store (or mill and feed) - NOT a box store or hardware store. There are also selective grass control chemicals. YOu can research this by Googling using search string      "Tall Fescue Control" - there are lots of articles by the USDA and individual state cooperative extension services.

There is a treatment called chlorsulfuron TFC (Tall Fescue Control) that will do this - it worked for me in western New York, but took 3 years to finish out all the tall fescue. It may now be limited to use by commercial applicators - pretty potent stuff. Can yellow bluegrass or make it phytosensitive, but our looked OK during treatment because the TFC was applied in the fall for best results, and our lawn was dormant till spring anyway.

Tall fescue can also be controlled by real short mowing, but only in areas where the bluegrass is dominant and really thrives so will eventually crowd out the trimmed fescue, but you may be too far north for that.

Lawn And Yard Work reviews in Cumberland

It went great...Were reliable and did an excellent Job on the lawn plus trimmed our hedge.....our neighbors still use him and also think he does a great job.

Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
and the Four Points Landscape crew again did a great job with the work requested (
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
's company provides monthly lawn and landscaping for our residence). The work done was neat and attractive, and exactly as specified.
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
is very responsive and communicative, very beneficial toward accomplishing landscaping goals esp. with everyone's busy schedules. No drama; I enjoy working with his firm, and would not hesitate to recommend them for any one-time project (plantings; pine straw; trimming, etc.) or recurring yard maintenance.

These guys had a mammoth job with our shrub wall and yard. They really worked hard and made our yard look great. we've since contracted them to service our yard monthly (really to make our inconsistent work look better).

I received 3 estimates for this job and chose
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
, the
middle priced quote, as he seemed professional and more than qualified for the
job. On day one he arrived late and didn't complete nearly as much as we
anticipated mainly because he had other jobs he was doing and didn't stay long,
delegating the work to a poorly trained new employee. Every day was like this,
an hour here an hour there, delays with topsoil, delays with sod. Also, while
doing the job, his bobcat left ruts in the yard which he wasn't planning on
fixing. It took a lot of persuading to get him to roll and fill the worst areas.
End result, the palmettos are gone and the sod is down. Instead of 2 days it took a week.
There are all kinds of ridges in the yard that weren't there before and the
edges of the sod were laid on top of the old grass, with no attempt to blend it
to the rest of the yard, leaving bumps. Needless to say mowing is not fun.
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked

is right though, it will all blend in eventually but until next year it's not
like a newly planted yard should be.
I won't hire this contractor again and can't recommend
him for anything more than what the good reviews were about, basic yard cleanup
- Rick S.

There was an initial misunderstanding about what type of roof is covered - make sure to read the fine print! I have a cedar shake roof which isn't covered by the deal. It ended up costing me more than $600 for the job which I think is pretty high. The service was great, just very pricey.

I needed mulch spread in flower beds after weeding, yard edged, and topsoil added to level yard. Then they were to overseed bare spots in front and back of yard. The topsoil they put down had such large clumps of dirt you couldn't walk through the yard with out almost twisting your ankle. They put about 4-6 inches of hay/straw all over the yard and told me to water 1 time a day for the next couple of weeks. We watched and couldn't really see any grass growing so we called them to come back and check. They did come that time, got down on their knees and pulled the straw aside and found a few tiny blades of grass and claimed that it was coming, we just had to be patient. So, we were.....the grass really never grew to speak of, there were a few tiny blades of grass here and there but it was far from what one expects for "overseeding", it was as if they threw weed seeds out rather than grass because everywhere they supposedly sowed seeds, weeds grew. So, I contacted them again by email requesting my money back, at least part of it but never heard from them again. My yard was truly ruined, I never thought I would get any money back but I did think that I would hear from them. I never did. If they try to tell you they didn't know there was a problem, they are lying because they were supposed to come back in a couple of weeks if I didn't call them before that. They didn't do that either. They have other customers they report are happy, but they never did give me anyone's phone number for a reference like I asked them too. I did
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
very positive referral from someone before I used them but when I was unhappy and they thought I needed to wait longer, they were going to get me then phone number of someone who's yard was a mess and they fixed it up....they never did that either. 'They disagreed with me about the amount of mulch they needed and then they ran out and I had to pay for more. They brought their kids with them to do the job, which would be fine with me but if I wanted a child (like under 12 child) to put straw/hay on my yard I would have let someone I know do it! Do yourself a favor and don't use them unless you only need edging, They did fine with that.

Having an issue with weeds so I sought the service of
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
through an Angie's List Deal. I did not look closely at the square footage offered in the deal and the size of my lawn far exceeded the offer.
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
came out and provided the first service despite the size discrepancy. I received a very polite call from the company advising that they provided the first service and would be willing to provide an additional treatment at a cost that would be conducive to the size of my lawn. I agreed and they provided the weed and fertilizer application in a timely and professional manner at a fair price. Although several of my neighbors use the larger "corporate" sized lawn treatment companies; I had one of the few yards in the neighborhood with no weeds. Great service and quality employees.

This was a few months ago so some details are less specific.
The work was all performed by a two person crew and the son of one of the crew. They did a great job and worked hard, but it felt a bit strange that they brought the kid.
My negative scores all relate to the process of getting an estimate. The initial appointment the owner/
Cumberland Lawn Services Provider Name Locked
was a 'no-show" and admitted to forgetting about it when I called him. He was an hour late on the rescheduled date. Then even though I explained the job was to remove the overgrown shrub on the phone, he told me it was not worth coming back unless it was for a full day.
Since I felt the day rate was reasonable and I had other things I could come up with to fill the day I agreed. When they came back to do the work, the owner dropped off the crew and left (also a surprise). As mentioned the crew did good work so ultimately I have no complaints about the work done, but the process of getting it arranged was unprofessional.
