"Wait time to be seen was still approximately 40 to 45 minutes even though I was his first and only appointment sitting in the waiting room. When he came in, he acted" like I was a problem for him. He made comment that I had seen several G.I. doctors in the past. I left with the same information that I went there with. Whenever I asked a question, his comment was "I don't know". His office staff failed to return several phone calls, nor did they follow through with getting information in regards to a test that he wanted me to have. Very disappointed and waste of almost $200. I would never go back to see him again, nor would never recommend this doctor or office to anybody else. Will advise referring doctor of negative experience

"
is a large medical group of more than 400 doctors and growing. The "Partners" share support staff, billing, equipment, etc. (" One problem here is apparently the docs are not given staff of their own choosing ). For that they must contribute a percentage of their net income to the Limited Liability Partnership. It used to be 15%. This info comes from an old NY Times article, but there is no reason to believe there has been much change. Under the current Medicare Advantage fee for service system, the more a doctor does the more he gets paid. and the more goes into the coffers of the Partnership. Thus the incentive to over test and over treat. Rare is the doc who leans toward doing only what is necessary (my podiatrist is one) rather than the most that can be justified. Be careful when you are referred by your Primary doc to a specialist. He will refer you to a
specialist division, you pick the doc but have the option of going to any specialist covered by your plan. My own PC will suggest some alternate option to try first if I ask, lets say OTC ear wax removal kit rather than referral to the ENT guy who will surely want to do expensive tests.

I was having problems with bowel frequency/consistency triggered by a bad meal while traveling. I was also due for a colonoscopy so my general practitioner set it up with Dr.
Chester Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
.
The colonoscopy went fine, and Dr.
Chester Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
's bedside manner was very good. However, he was a little short on explaining details, preferring to keep things very "general". I have a technical background, so I like to understand what is being done, why, what the results mean or could mean, etc.
During the procedure, Dr.
Chester Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
took tissue samples for pathology to assess inflammation, cancer, etc. I was scheduled for a follow-up appointment about 8 weeks out. Following the prep for the colonoscopy, I noted a complete cessation of all symptoms. My G.P. told me that this could happen, and had seen this in many patients. About 4-5 weeks out, the nurse called me and wanted to prescribe medication. I told her the problem appeared to resolve and she didn't seem that interested. I asked her about the pathology results, and she said there was no cancer but there was some micro-inflammation.
During the follow-up visit, I NEVER got to speak to the doctor, only his PA. The PA told me that the pathology indicated micro-inflammation, and this was not a precursor to cancer and the cause was not always known. He also told me there was no correlation between micro-inflammation and more serious IBD conditions. Everything was fine up to that point, but then it got strange.
I told him I had not been taking the medication because the problem had abated, and he said they wanted me on it any way. He then said they would need to recheck me periodically to see if the medication was impacting my liver. I could not get a straight answer as to WHY I would take medication to control symptoms I did not have. He then said they wanted to do a follow-up colonoscopy every year, and they wanted me to take additional blood marker tests that may not be covered by my insurance.
I of course asked "why?" and he said, to check to see if you develop IBD. I said "I thought you said there is no correlation between the two?". He said although there was never any documented instance of this happening, they wanted to be "sure". This made absolutely no sense to me. As I pressed him, he said "tissue is king, but..." (referencing the pathology results). I still didn't understand and he was sort of agreeing with me, but basically said this is what the doctor wanted. Because the doctor NEVER made an appearance, I couldn't get any clarification.
In addition to all this, they asked many invasive questions on the admittance form, such as how many smoke detectors I have, my sexual history, whether there were guns in my house, etc. I refused to answer any of these questions, as they are irrelevant. They didn't seem to like that either.
In the end, I did not take the expensive, uncovered blood tests (the literature indicates there's a good reason why these are uncovered, they are usually inconclusive). I also never took the medication and I have yet to have a problem now 4+ months after doing the prep.
All-in-all, I would NOT recommend this practitioner. He seems to prescribe tests, procedures, and medications that may not be necessary, does not provide explanations, and does not make himself available during the diagnosis and follow-up stage.

Doctor

My husband died, in severe back pain, unnecessarily. Dr
Chester Gastroenterologists Provider Name Locked
showed no compassion and never even wanted to see his patients. He does rounds at 5 or 5:30 am so patient is asleep and no family member present. He orders surgeries but won't make himself available if there are complications. He would probably be an excellent battlefield surgeon but he's not a doctor you should choose for long term care.

They are also not real clear with their "clear liquids and soft foods". The practicing doctor that I had wasn't exactly the friendliest, attentive doctor I've experienced. I don't believe I was able to get his full attention. Regarding the nursing staff I would give them outstanding kudos. They were great.
