"I had never been to
, so when we needed a new washing machine I first went to Home Depot. The associate there suggested a High Efficiency" machine. I went home and read reviews on HE machines and found that they had mixed reviews, but there were some bad reviews that really scared me off. I decided I wanted to stick with an agitator model, and decided to shop around. I called

When I told him what I wanted, I liked that he didn't try to talk me into a HE machine - he agreed with my concerns and told me that in fact the washing machine he liked most was a Speed Queen agitator model. So once again I did my homework and found that Speed Queen washers, though they cost a bit more than some, are the highest-rated washers on the

back and told him he had sold me on the Speed Queen, we completed the transaction over the phone, and my new washer was delivered within a couple days. The delivery guys were prompt and did a great job. I was a little concerned how they were going to get it down our basement steps, but they use lifting straps and carry it between them, which is amazing. I've had the washer for over 2 months now, and couldn't be happier. A few weeks after that purchase, I decided to get a new dishwasher so I called up

When buying a major appliance like a new dishwasher, a great place to start is to look for the Energy Star label. We've anticipated some questions you may have.

Depends a lot on your current configuration. Rough numbers, $4-7,000 for the generator including autostart and automatic load transfer circuit box and master breakers (usually all come on the generator).

Installation (with pad already inplace and gas hookup - about $500-1000.

Electrical about $800 minimum, to maybe $2500. The $800 will get you a simple transfer switch installation but if you want some household circuits to run on the generator but others not, depending on how your current wiring is run, can run to $2000 to pull existing circuits to a new panel.

The problem is that all circuits that are going to be on the generator, unless you are planning to carry the entire household load, have to go to a separate circuit breaker panel which is fed off the automatic transfer switch, so they get power from either the power company or the generator, depending on which is providing power at the moment. That means the circuits running off either source have to be disconnected from your current breaker box, extended (commonly) over to the new box, and hooked up. All other circuits stay on your current breaker box, to run only off the public power when it is on. If the generator is large enough capactiy for your entire house load of course it costs more, but this circuit termination point moving is not needed, so electrical work drops way off to basically a connection box with the transfer switch.

A couple of words of advice - pay attention to weather protection, fire barrier between the unit and the house (including issues of overhead decks that can catch fire), automatic fire shutoff/suppression, and trickle charging from house power to generator battery. Also read CAREFULLY your power comopany rules on generator installation (commonly requires their signoff), any code restrictions on generators and noise in your area, and if your insurance rate will go up. (It definitely does if you have a fuel tank, I don't know if it does with natural gas-fired generators.)


Welcome to the world of Google ! Google this search phrase - dual fuel downdraft convection oven range

You will find a number of brands that make dual-fuel ranges with convection oven - Jenn-air of course, and GE, Bosch, Kitchenaid, Maytag, LG, Samsung, Wolf, Frigidaire, Thermador, Viking all sellin the US. Almost all major brands make this a dual-fuel convection oven range - find model(s) you like, then start checking with local vendors to see who sells them locally - the big home improvement box stores and Sears, Best Buy for starts.

However, the bad news - according to an article I found, only Jenn-Air still makes downdraft stovetops, although I did find one blog notation about a person buying a European Viking with downdraft. Basically the fan capability in downdraft ranges is just not enough to capture the odors and grease and steam coming off a cooktop, so the other brands all dripped it and recommend an over-stove powered vent hood. Most downdraft units had about a 1/10HP fan that pulled about 300 cfm - the same as a modern bathroom fan,, when to actually cause a reverse (downward) airflow over a range requires more like 1000 cfm or more causing a downward airflow of about 10-20 mph - which would make for a little private windstorm around your stove. People also found they did not like the reduced oven size to accomodate the fan unit.

Thermador and Dacor and probably others make behind the range vent units that stick up a foot or two and pull some of the fumes from the rangetop, though reviews say their performance is iffy and basically only affects the rear burners.

My recommendation - go with an overhead vent hood and eliminate the greasy buildup and high humidity in the kitchen that go with downdraft ranges - you will also pay about half a much as for a Jenn-Air downdraft unit.

My husband has had to call and remind on numerous occasions only to be told that she will get right to it. Even though our kitchen was done in early September, we are still awaiting response on a promised extended warranty on the products. He has had numerous assurances that it will be promptly provided. We were disappointed in the amount of the rebates that we received for our appiiances. It was our fault for not asking for more specific information as we were developing our order.

In February 2013, I purchased a Frigidaire Pro Series suite (refrig, gas range and dishwasher) from

I was told the refrig and range would be delievered separately from the dishwasher, and that their installer would deliver and install the the dishwasher, the same day, but would charge me separately as there could be additional parts, lines, etc. needed that could not be determined until the install. All went according to plan, with the person installing the dishwasher verbally telling me the cost, which I paid by check.
This past October (2014) the high pressure hot water fitting under the dishwasher burst while we were away, sending a

He also noted the line had been jammed between the dishwasher and concrete subfloor, kinking it. For the initial troubleshoot the tech was on time for the appointment window and friendly. It was determined that the compressor was shot. I decided that since I like the fridge I would pay the $540 for a new compressor and the install instead of getting a new fridge. The troubleshoot was on 12/30/2014 and I ordered the compressor the same day. The appointment only costed $40 and he said that the $40 would be applied to the $540 for the new compressor/install. He said he would order the compressor that same day (I had to put $250 down for them to order the part) but since it was the week of new years they probably wouldn't recieve the compressor until the following week. Tuesday 1/6/2015 comes around and I hadn't heard from them so I called to see what was happening. He said the part shoud be there by Wednesday 1/7/2015 and they will give me a call when it comes in to schedule an appointment for the next day. Thursday 1/8 I had'nt heard from them so I called and they scheduled an appointment for Friday 1/9. I stayed home from work on Friday only for a no-call/no-show. I called/emailed several times with no response. Monday 1/12 I finally get ahold of them and tehy tell me the tech had the flu. I told them it was odd that they couldn't call to tell me that but whatever, things happen. I got the appointment rescheduled for Tuesday 1/13. Again, no-call/no show. Again I called/emailed with no success. I had already given them $290 so I didn't want to just take my business elsewhere. Wednesday 1/14 I got ahold of them through a different phone because they weren't answering my phone number and asked what was going on. They said the tech had gotten sick again. Again I stressed the importance of communication. They rescheduled my appointment for Friday 1/16. I emailed them on Friday (because they weren't answering my phone calls) and made sure that the appointment was still scheduled for Friday. I got a reply saying the tech was helping with a furnace install and will be headed to my house directly after and should be there by 3:00pm. At 3:45 I called/emailed after another no-call/no-show with no response. Monday 1/19 I emailed them telling them to just drop off my part at my house and I'll have somebody else install it (in a lengthier email). They replied "OK". When I got home the compressor was in front of my garage. So I am going on over 3 weeks without a fridge, 3 days taken off work, $290 less, and
