Tree Service reviews in Alexandria

We were extremely pleased with the quality of work. My husband and I were dreading the whole process of having to have the tree cut down in our back yard but it ended up being such a hassle free process using
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
. They arrived on time both days, it took them two days to complete the job which is what we were told form the beginning so it was totally fine, they were able to completely remove the tree the first day and the second day was used to grind down the tree stump. Everyone on the team was very nice and professional. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely use them in the future if needed.

The tree in my front yard had fallen across my yard and my neighbor's yard during a storm the night before. I called
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
and he stopped by the same day and provided an estimate. I called him back same day and accepted, and his workers came over and removed the tree. They came back the next day and got the stump out and swept up. Mr.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Kurtzhals was very easy to talk with and provided very fast service. I had originally called the landscaper I use from time to time and had been given an estimate of $450.00 and a job start date two weeks away. I'm so glad I called
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
. He charged less than half that and same day service couldn't be beat.

Normally don't write reviews but
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
and his employees are top notch. Two different crews did work at my house and both were professional, on time, and efficient.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
evaluated my needs and gave me a very fair price compared to the other quotes I received. One task was to tree climb large oak tree to remove some dead limbs and second task was to grind up a number fo tree stumps. Both were professionally done to my complete satisfaction. I highly recommend anyone needing tree services to speak with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
before making a decision. You will not regret the decision

It was a good experience. I had quotes earlier in the year from other companies and had sat on them all summer. They ranged from $1000 (off the books) to over $6000. I found
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
via a recommendation from a neighbor on NextDoor.com, and then saw that they had a good rating also on Angie's List. I emailed them on a Monday, coordinated for an estimate on Wed, and was able to get the work done on Friday.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was good to work with, his initial quote was $2600, and I negotiated him down to $2000 cash. When they came on site, I negotiated a little more trim work on some other trees for an extra $100. I expect I could have negotiated him down a little more (maybe $200-$400), but I feel I got an honest day's work out of his crew.
They showed up on time, and had the first limbs down within 20 minutes of arrival. The crew seemed like a good team. I had them chip up and remove all of the limbs, and kept the larger pieces. I did not have them cut it up for firewood size (part of the logic was by avoiding this I would have more negotiating leverage). But I have chainsaws and friends so we'll take care of that later.
After everything was finished they cleaned up to my satisfaction.
Bottom line, I would recommend them to other customers, but I would also encourage other customers to negotiate with them to get the best deal. There are a lot of tree companies in this area, and it was refreshing to find this company.

was very punctual and did a great job cutting down the trees. Our only pet peeve was that we had to do some digging in the front yard and found out that the roots were not ground deep enough so we had to dig them out and pay more money.

I went with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
because they were recommended by neightbors when we moved into our neighborhood several years ago. For a time they were so-so: on the plus side,
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was friendly and responsive, the seasonal clean-ups were excellent, and the crews were friendly and reliable. Over time, however, I became progressively less happy with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
.

came out to look at a small hardscaping job, for instance, but never got back to me with an estimate. Also, I was having trouble growing grass in the back yard, and mowing crews repeatedly trampled or over-mowed new young grass, killing it. Last summer, I was away for a six weeks and the grass was completely dead when I returned -- but despite weekly visits by the mowing crew, no one bothered to contact me to say, "half the grass you're paying us to mow is dead." Frustrated, I finally called last fall and said I needed different or better service; the phone receptionist, though friendly, basically said, "Our crews are paid to mow, that's it: they don't take crae of grass or tell us if it's dead, they just mow any grass that's there."
I asked if there was some different service I could set up -- something more suitable for a busy working professional who wanted a full-service arrangement. The receptionist said I could upgrade to a more enhanced kind of service; when I asked how much it would be, she said
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
would have to come take a look. I asked her to have
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
contact me; she said she would, but I heard nothing back. Over the course of several emails over several months, I asked again to have
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
or someone else contact me to discuss setting up a more full-service plan-- silence.
Finally, in April, I gave up and decided it was time to find a lawn and landscaping service that was more responsive, so I notified
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
by email that I wished to discontinue all services as of that date and asked that they remove me from their client list. I wrote: "I've been a
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Side client for years, but over the last year have grown increasingly frustrated about the inconsistent quality of the services and inconsistent responses to service requests. (No follow-up after a hardscaping consultation with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
last year; no follow-up on requests last fall for a consultation about getting a better and more comprehensive service plan; crews relpeatedly trampling on grass seedlings; etc.).
At this point I think it's time for me to cancel any services still listed in your system and find a lawn and landscaping company that is a bit more responsive. I'm disappointed to have to do this; The
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Side originally came highly recommended by neighbors, but I need to find a company that will follow-up promptly and can provide better and more consistent service."
I received no response whatsoever, which surprised me, but I went about the business of finding a new lawn care service (which ended up being cheaper, as well). I figured
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
had gotten too big too fast and had let customer service for smaller customers slip, but didn't see the point of writing a negative review; I was a bit frustrated, but that was all.
That would have been the end of the story -- but in early
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, I got a brand new bill for serviced that had supposedly been performed since my April email (while another lawn service was actually on the job!). I emailed and left a voice mail reminding
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
that I had cancelled all services back in April, and asked that the bill be cancelled. No response. Then, in late
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, I got an email informing me that my bill was past due and asking me to pay immediately. I fired off another round of emails (forwarding the previous messages) and voicemails -- again, no response. Finally, I called and by some miracle I got
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
on the phone. He said curtly that he'd "take care of it." (No apology). I thanked him and hung up, thinking that at least this would finally get resolved. But guess what came in yesterday's mail? A brand new bill, dated several days after my conversation with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
!
That's when I turned to Angie's List.
Bottom line: a lot of my neighbors still use
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
and seem satisfied. I don't know if my experience was anomalous, but it was not great. I understand that sometimes small companies expand rapidly and "outgrow" their smaller customers -- it may cease to be worth their time to deal with people whose needs only generate $20 or $30 a month. That's fine, and if at any point someone at
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
had said, "We're sorry, but we just don't think we're the right company for what you need," I'd have thought that was fair enough. But the lack of communication and responsiveness is extremely unprofressional, and my apparent inability to get
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
to stop sending me bills for services I have cancelled is beyond irritating. Caveat emptor.

don't have exact date of service; it was done in mid-late Spring of 2014. I called
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Tree Care to have my huge sycamore tree's branches a) trimmed away from both my neighbor's and my townhouse and b) trimmed up from our driveways for more headroom. Sycamore trees were planted in front of every second townhouse when our one-block street was built in 1997 and we moved here.

said he'd stop by the next day to look at the tree and email or leave an estimate. I happened to see him when he arrived and went out to meet him. We talked for a few minutes about the job, then about the wildlife in our small woods behind the house and the nature-conservation efforts in our county. He is very professional, helpful, and personable. He asked me specific questions to learn exactly what I expected from the finished result, and he gave me good suggestions along the way. It's apparent that he loves his work and is knowledgeable in and beyond his area of expertise. On the work date, his crew arrived with all of the necessary tools, equipment, and machinery; all of it looking updated, clean, and well-maintained. (That tells me a lot about a provider.) The crew was professional, cheerful, and friendly. FINAL RESULT: They not only trimmed the branches away and up as I had asked, they cut them back all around the tree. Of course, I expected that to be done (for symmetry, I thought), but it seems that the length of the cut branches are a little different when you consider the sun-side (growth-side) versus the shady side. The crew boss explained that the tree also needed balance and stability. They left the both driveways, the plantings, and the street almost cleaner than when they started. BONUS ! (What I didn't expect.): 1.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
crew harnessed themselves and went through the tree's interior (top to bottom) to trim off and thin out specific small branches and the leggy shoots. Again, I thought this was cosmetic until the thunderstorms came and I saw my tree sway a little but mostly stand proud because the winds went through it, while the other trees swayed or spun around violently (dangerously) just as my tree used to do. 2. At the time of the work, the tree had already flowered and green leaves were developing. Every cut was made so carefully that, within a week or so, not a single cut was visible, even on close inspection. Green leaves were sprouting at every spot where a cut had been made. Now that's cosmetic! What more could I ask for? I can wish that, next time, all of my neighbors will listen to me about
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, or that they'll examine this tree and see the difference in the quality of work. Some paid the same price that I did, others paid more. It's unfortunately too late for a few of the trees that were trimmed this year. It's like they had poodle haircuts -- bare trunks with hacked off branches for 15+ feet up, then a dense pompom of leaves on top.

Great job from the time I contacted the company on a Friday afternoon to the job completion the following Wednesday. They replied promptly to my estimate request and then scheduled an appointment to do the work. They arrived early and went right to work. Cleaned everything up and left my yard looking neat with no sign of the stump. Very happy with the job they did and would hire them again!

The crew was very efficient in performing the trimming task as originally planned. The trees looked even better that I anticipated. These guys also did a very thorough job in cleaning up, and left only minor cosmetic damage to the surrounding ground cover.

I had an emergency situation and the service provider was unable to provide services in an timely manner (which they should have told me up front), and then the services that were provided were patently insufficient.
