I had an emergency situation and the service provider was unable to provide services in an timely manner (which they should have told me up front), and then the services that were provided were patently insufficient.

Fine job, beyond expectations. There was about a 10 days' wait from the initial visit to when the work could be scheduled, but this job wasn't urgent. After we had accepted the proposal from
but before his team came to do the work, a strong storm felled one of the three main limbs of the biggest maple on our electrical wires, and broke two large branches in the other maple. A Dominion Electric contractor came to cut up the limb that had fallen on the wires, and also cut down another limb of the maple that was close to the street wires. Since Dominion had done part of the work that
Services was to do, I asked if a discount was possible.
offered 10% off, a reduction from $1800 to $1620. I chose to pay $1700 as the repair on the second maple wasn't in the original bid. The crews came on time, worked efficiently and neatly, and cleaned up behind themselves.
The $1,800 price that
offered was about 60% of another credible bid we received.

The work basically went well. A few things bear noting:
When he and I were trying to set up a day and time for his team to come,
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
said that he was already booked solid (at least for my area) that week and that he would make out his schedule for the following week on Saturday (
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
19) and he would get back in touch with me that day so we could set up our appointment. Also, I asked him for an email address; he said that he doesn't have one but his wife does and he would get it from his wife and get back to me within the hour.
On Sunday, still not having heard from Mr.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
, I called him back at both of his landlines and at each one I left a voicemail reminding him of our agreements and noting that even if his schedule was still unclear as of Saturday I would have appreciated a call from him just to let me know that. I also included a request for his availability, if any, on late afternoon Monday (
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
21) and on Tuesday (
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
22), and finally repeated my request for his wife's email address. In addition, I texted his mobile phone with all of the above.
He called back and left a voicemail letting me know that Monday was out of the question but Tuesday may be possible...and said nothing about any email address. I returned his call, we set up an appointment for midday Tuesday and then asked him about his wife's email address.
He said that he could get back to me much faster if I called him. I responded that I would sometimes just like to email him, even if only through his wife, and asked again for his wife's email address. He repeated that it would be much faster, saying that his wife only checks her email once a day. I responded that that's OK, sometimes I want to send him something in writing even if it's not always as fast as the phone, and mentioned his promise to give me the email address.
He acknowledged having made that promise...and only then said -- in a noticeably sharper
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
of voice, I might add -- that he just doesn't do email, period, and would not give me the address.
Hey, if Mr.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
didn't want to give any email address in the first place...he could have been a grown-up about it and said so when I first asked about it, or at the very least honored his promise to call me back in an hour and then told me he couldn't do it. Skipping out on both that call and the appointment call, not even responding to my repeated question about the email when he called back, not addressing it when I replied to his voicemail and then when I brought it up when we were on the phone giving a B.S. excuse over and over and finally, when I called him on his promise, just plain reneging does not raise my confidence in him.
[Not to mention that I take a dim view of a seller pushing Option A with Advantage X even after I, as a customer, respond that I prefer Option B and that Advantage X doesn't mean much to me. When I'm buying, I get to define my own preferences thankyouverymuch.]
More broadly though: Hey, the 1980s called and they want their technology back!
Yes, he has a mobile phone and can get texts on it. Hey, I don't feel like hitting Send every 160 characters, not to mention typing on my own mobile phone which is smaller than my laptop. On the other hand, I like having a routine channel for written communication that's not quite so formal as fax or mail.
That's why email's common as dirt in business today and has been for roughly two decades. It's one thing if you can only access email after hours and/or on weekends...I understand many people, even business people, don't use smartphones or carry laptops around. Or they don't want to pay for that much data.
But no email at all? In 2014?
Anyway, the project itself seemed to go well. When it came time to pay, he told me for the first time that he charged a 5% extra fee for credit card transactions. I wrote him a check, and advised him that while I know credit card surcharges are legal (a class action settlement legalized them), I'm not sure whether he;s allowed to charge more than necessary to recover his fees. He responded that his fees are indeed that high. I then mentioned that last I knew, the maximum allowable surcharge is 4% of the price. He said his wife just handles all that stuff.
As he was leaving, he warned me of some dead limbs in the tree he cut the limb from and another tree in my yard. I asked him if he could show me the limbs and he said he didn't have time, he was rushing to get to his next job.
I wish the question above about using the provider in the future allowed a "Maybe" answer, because that's what I'd say. He seems to do a good job at a satisfactory price so I'm not closing the door all the way on future business with him. On the other hand, his best
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
for doing more work for me would be if he was offering a great, special deal and/or was head and shoulders above anyone else I sought out for the job.

Excellent work! The trees were cut down and they took away the brush and left firewood sized logs neatly stacked. He offered helpful advice about other trees and cleaned up the whole area beautfully. Very nice guy too. I'd definitely use Heart of Wood again.

The crew showed up on time, and worked diligently through the day.
The crew cleaned up all the debris, as expected.
I was very happy with the service that we received, and the price was very fair.

was very responsive. Picked up and returned phone calls immediately, showed up when scheduled and immediately provided an estimate. The estimate was slightly higher than other providers, but they were the most responsive and helpful provider. I couldn't have the work performed at this time, but I would go with them in the future based on the level of customer service I received.

The storm hit about 6PM on a Tuesday. A fair amount of damage, and my car was blocked in the car port by the tree that was now leaning against my house. I imagined that it would be days before getting somebody out to remove the tree. I figured I would need to miss a lot of time at my job. Also I was concerned that I would be charged a premium because of the immediate need and precarious situation I was in. Went to Angie's list and found "
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Tree and Lawn Service." I called and left a message on
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
answering machine about 9PM (Tuesday).
At 9 AM the next morning (Wednesday), Mr.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was at my front door. He took a thorough look around, quoted an estimate, that I knew was reasonable and left. In 45 minutes he was back with his crew, in four or five hours, the tree was cut up and piled in the front of my house. He and his personnel were courteous and thorough -- particularly in cleaning up. They were careful not to create more damage in the removal of this big big tree, and were even careful about not marring my driveway. They took care to get all the wood chips off of the lawn. I could not have asked for better. Within an hour of their departure, I had a detailed receipt via e-mail.
The next morning they were out early to pick up the cutup tree and branches -- again did a super job cleaning up. It is now Thursday and this unfortunate situation is behind me.
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
' completed the job (including clean up) even before my insurance adjuster got here -- I am still waiting for the insurance adjuster to fit me in his schedule. That is responsive. I would use
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
again and have scheduled additional work with them. Very pleased.

In my initial call to
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
Services, I requested to make an appointment with a Certified Arborist. We had several tasks that needed knowledgeable people to provide the proper care. For example, three 30' Colorado Blue Spruce trees were to be transplanted or cut down, and new smaller Baby Blues put in their place. The young woman with whom I spoke said one of their arborist (she provided his name) would call to make an appointment. She assured me he was a Certified Arborist. When he called I again stressed our need, and he confirmed his numerous years of experience with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
. As the internet did not list his name as a Certified Arborist, I again asked, and he showed me paperwork that he had completed the courses. Based on the outstanding reviews on Anglie's List, I continued with the appointment, but perhaps the writing was on the wall and I should have canceled. With his discussion about 4 other tasks and a quote for the work, I signed a contract. He anticipated that their work schedule would place our appointment about one & a half weeks into the future. Six days later he called & said a crew to trim our Magnoia & to cable the Maple could come at 2:00 pm the next day. I was very pleased. I asked if he would be with the crew. He said, "No, I have other work." I asked how the crew would know which tree to cable since we have several Maples. He simply answered, "They'll know." I commented that most
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
arborists are on site for the work day, according to Angie's List. Nothing else was said. The next day arrived, 2 pm arrived, then 3 pm & 4 pm. I called the arborist. He returned a call & said they would be at my home in a half hour. Thank goodness I was home, or we very well may have had another tree cabled, for the crew approached two other trees & considered where they were to cable each. I directed them to the correct tree. All the workers were very polite and worked efficiently. The crew cleaned up everything in the yard and left it very tidy and no harm was done to other plants or property. Each worker obviously wanted the customer to be pleased. We paid for the two completed tasks and waited 10 days and did not receive a call or any contact from
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
for the balance of the contracted work. I left serveral messages, but none were answered. Eventually, the other tasks were completed, but that will be in another review.

Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was professional and knowledgeable. Went through the yard answering questions and evaluating all of our trees. Quickly identified all of them by species, pointed out a couple of things to watch, and gave us an estimate on treating an infected tree.
Scheduling was a bit haphazard. I had said Thursdays were best, so I got a call one Thursday afternoon from
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
saying that he could be at my house in under five minutes (I had a conference call 30 minutes from then). He came and was very, very rushed (not sure if it was just his manner or the time constraint). I had a hard time keeping up. Thankfully my husband had come home early from work and was able to catch what I missed.
All in all, pleased with their service.

They arrived on time at 9am and worked tirelessly until the job was completed at 5pm. They were very professional, hard working, willing to listen and friendly. The crew of 7 went straight to work, with
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
climbing the trees the entire day while the remaining crew worked tirelessly cutting the logs, hauling them uphill, loading branches and debris into the truck and keeping the work site clean and safe. When they finished the job our yard looked as if they had never been there. At one point, when they were putting the yard back together and reinstalling a gate that had been temporarily removed,
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
took the time to repair the gate so that it was more stable than when they started. They were eager to please and happy to do the job! I would not hesitate to recommend
Alexandria Tree Services Provider Name Locked
to my family and friends.
