"
did a great job of taking a look at things, most impressively is that he admitted that there is not much that he could do that would actually" solve the problem. There were some recommendations that he made that required using other services that he did not offer (including hiring someone with a bulldozer to do some excavating) but he readily admitted that any servicing to the driveway that he would do would only result in a temporary solution. He was very helpful in all the discussion that we had about the water drainage. He gave some great pointers and insight.
was probably on site for 45 minutes to an hour. Just amazing service from someone who within 10 minutes realized that he would not be able to provide a solution. Great integrity.

".Crew was punctual, neat, and performed the work as agreed within the day. Also laid owner supplied pvc pipe across driveway and removed 2 large boulders next to driveway without charge.

Post-winter woes: Should I repair or replace my crumbled and cracked driveway?

Experts say the freeze-thaw cycles, precipitation and snow melt products used in winter harm asphalt and concrete driveways.

Driveways

A homeowner's guide to the advantages and disadvantages of different types of driveway materials, including asphalt, concrete, paving stones and gravel.

Concrete driveways are frequently twice as expensive as asphalt driveways, but they can last up to 30 years without showing major wear. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Ernest C. of Chicago)

If the state requires a contractor's license, then he needs to have a license in each state he intends to work in - plus state/local business licenses as applicable.

This does not mean there are not a lot of contractors who cross state lines without proper licensing - the penalties in may cases are not real severe and are just a fine, not criminal, so many take the chance.

As you say - argh  - many contractors are not really businessmen and have zero legal education, so many people get burned.

?

To overlay, with proper adhesion so it does not peel off, you first need to prepare the surface - typically heavy watercutting or sandblasting for concrete over concrete, or high-pressure presure washing and an asphalt (NOT water based cutback) adhesion coat before asphalt overlay.

Because of the prep cost, a concrete overlay commonly costs more than just tearingit out and replacing it, and if you are replacing it due to cracking and breaking up those cracks will almost always propogate or "reflect" through the new layer too with concrete. Ditto with asphalt overlay, though using a crack-stopper fabric can reduce (but usually not eliminate) that.

If just repairing ice melt/freeze thaw deterioration, a cementatious epoxy overlay can be used, though its life is less (normally) than new concrete. Usually used for limited areas like garage area pad, not entire driveways.

Asphalt overlays over somewhat deteriorated concrete can work well, but if not prepared and high-pressure (about 5000 psi or higher) cleaned to remove ALL deteriorated material, they can peel off because they stuck to deteriorated loose material rather than sound concrete. Again, can cost as much for a 1-1/2 to 2 inch overlay as for a 3-4 inch full replacement by the time you are done, because the prep work is labor intensive.

Even if this is just a surficial deterioration issue, I would talk to several contractors (site visit) about alternatives and let them bid both an overlay and a replacement (or whichever options they are inclined to bid on), then after getting opinions from all three and bids for all options, make your decision. I am pretty confident that total replacement will be both the most recommended and the cheapest, at probably about $2-4/SF for asphalt or 4-6/SF for concrete - commonly nearer the lower than higher range for most jobs and locales. If the overlay and replacement cost is pretty close,I would go with the replacement because overlays over concrete are always somewhat iffy as to how long they will last, especially concrete overlays.

For cost comparison, except in extreme freeze-thaw country, you can figure a concrete drive will last about twice as long as an asphalt one.

Mr.
Sandy Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
came out in the fall at our request and consulted with us on the large and "tricky" residential project. (We have an extremely steep and long driveway.) He was very responsive to our call for an estimate and due to weather, agreed that we should put it off until Spring. Because of our mild February in 2015, we chose a couple of days of sunshine and proceeded with the project. His crew arrived early and got right to work preparing the surface. We were pleased with the preparation paving and the effort and care that was taken. They worked efficiently and obviously wanted to get the job done properly. They asked several times for input and even came up with ideas for problem areas. For example, in the garage...the back door was not opening or closing properly prior to their work. (Not in their scope of contract.) The foreman made a suggestion to remedy the problem, and then executed the plan fixing a problem that could have been left for us to deal with. Again, they took care of re-installing two gates at the proper level, work that could have been left for us. They seemed to dot all the i's and cross all t's. Mr.

seems to have a professional crew that work together well. (We plan to contract with them again this summer to

Well, we paid over $1000 for this & in advance. Owner

Worthy sent workers here & upon completion he admitted to me it was a poor job. There are a lot of areas in sanded, then when they "sealed" they had not brushed the driveway filling in all cracks with sand & doing so prior to sealing...so they sealed sand on top of pavers.

Worthy told us when we they were finished our pavers would look like glass...because he uses a high end sealer. I have asked for resolution, he has promised me he would make it right & he never has. We would like it fixed ASAP or a refund. Not sure if I have date of service correct - but it wouldn't let me choose anything except March...perhaps that's when I bought the special he was running.

Driveway installation was awesome and done in one day. The base they put down with the paverment should last 15 to 20 years.
I had some difficulty getting them back to paint the sidewalk. By the time they were able, weeks later, it appeared they just wanted to get it done. Not as much attention to detail as I had hoped for with the paint.

The service went fine. A crew of 4 came out and completed the work in about 4 hours. They did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. I had no problem scheduling the service.

They were terrific! And this is coming from someone who expects quality, professional treatment by service providers. They were consistently punctual about returning phone calls and communicated clearly. They were quick to come out for a preview and to get the job done. The workers were polite and friendly. The job looks great. When we have to repave the entire driveway in a few years, I'll call them back without hesitation! I highly recommend this company.

Told us what was not needed and saved us money.
We have had our driveway coated numerous times and this was by far the best.
