"We keep trying to get a hold of him via text and email. He has told us he had a lot of personal emergencies that have kept him from contacting us. He didn't" show up the day the installed, he had personal issues and the quality wasn't what we were told. I had to pay the morning it was getting poured and that was the end of it. We have spoken to him about the cracks and and quality issues. He hasn't paid the subcontractor who is now calling me trying to get me to pay for the concrete. We just want him to pay the subcontractor since we paid him per the contract on the day the concrete was poured.

-Carl E.

"he was right out to give us a estimate on the replacement of the driveway he was very nice. Gave us a reasonable quote decided to go with him because he had did" my mother in laws driveway she had no problems with him and the work looked great and reasonable. After we confirmed that he will be doing the work in June 2014. It took him until September to finally get to us to do the job. When he finished it looked good he even recommended that we put a cement sealer on it as we had done. Than after winter passed it looked liked the concrete changed which it had the lower section of the driveway was pealing or flaking called him to tell him of the problem late April to come out and look at the issue it took several more calls and finally he showed up mid May. He agreed that there was a problem with the cement and said that he would have to replace. That was the end of May and here it is mid September 2015 and still not replaced. Made several calls to him his wife would answer the phone said she would give him the message never has returned a call yet. Not giving up but going to pursue other avenues to get this resolved.

If the state requires a contractor's license, then he needs to have a license in each state he intends to work in - plus state/local business licenses as applicable.

This does not mean there are not a lot of contractors who cross state lines without proper licensing - the penalties in may cases are not real severe and are just a fine, not criminal, so many take the chance.

As you say - argh  - many contractors are not really businessmen and have zero legal education, so many people get burned.

Concrete Driveway Installation reviews in Highland

On 7-20-2015 I hired
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
, aka “Bad A** Concrete”, to apply approximately 650 sq ft of an epoxy coating with
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
to my garage floor. He told me it would be “bad a** concrete” when done and he couldn’t wait to take photos and show it off on his facebook page. Things did not turn out as planned and it now looks like “Half a** concrete”
On 7-22-2015 they started by sanding, grinding and prepping the floor as necessary. Then they put down a black epoxy base and spread
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
into the epoxy base. Once the base dried they came back and vacuumed the excess
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
from the floor. The next step is to sand down the sharp edges of all the
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
with a swing arm and to cover the
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
with a
clear epoxy to seal it all in and to cover any sharp edges.
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Mcfayden stated one of his guys burned through the surface with the “swing arm” and that it caused unevenness in the coloring of the
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
. He said he would come back and put another top coat on it so it all blends together. When he was done it was obvious that the back half of the garage did not match the front half of the garage and you could still see the burn
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
in the surface.
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
admitted to the problem and stated they would come back and top coat the entire floor to make it right.
On 8-2-2015 they came back and put a new top coat on the entire floor. Then they sanded the
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
again and left burn
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
throughout the garage again. They also spread the clear coat very unevenly leaving some spots of the floor look dull, other spots looked shiny and some spots are so thick it looks wet like a puddle. They also did not put enough clear around the perimeter of the garage leaving very sharp
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
which ended up cutting the bottom of my daughters foot when she walked across it.
At this point I had given up hope that
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
had the skill level needed to properly sand and finish this type of floor so I asked him if
he could at least come back and take care of the sharp spots in the middle of the floor as well as the entire perimeter. On 9-8-2015 he finally sent out a couple of his guys that stated they had been working for
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
for less than a year and were not real familiar with how this floor should have turned out. They also told us that the guys who originally did our floor had been fired. They sanded down some spots with a drywall sanding screen and spread some more clear with a paint brush. They missed several of the sharp areas again.
We asked
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
one more time what he can do about this. He told us he wasn’t sure because he had not seen the finished floor since it was redone and that he was not willing to come out and look at the floor because a text we sent him had a nasty undertone to it. The real reason is because he had already been paid the full amount of the job and he was not capable of doing it correctly. He told us that he was experienced in this type of work but after witnessing his incompetence over a period of 6 weeks I doubt they have ever done this type of work before.
I am now in the process of hiring an experienced concrete
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
company to come out and redo this disaster of a garage floor that
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Mcfayden and his crew installed. I would not recommend these guys to do any work unless you are looking for half a** concrete.

All went as

Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked

came out and rectified the issue themselves.

are great to work with. They even did our bathroom remodel a year ago and did a great job with that as well. We will use them for any future remodel needs.

The workers arrived on time as scheduled at 7 am. They quickly broke up the driveway with a
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
hammer and sledge hammer. The Bobcat easily lifted the broken pieces. They had a crew of around five doing the major portion of the heavy work. All aspects of the job was well coordinated from start to finish. The lead worker stayed on the project until it was done spending considerable time working the finish so it was done perfectly. The removal of the old driveway and the exposed roots took about two hours. The forms were set and the concrete poured and completed in another two hours. Working the concrete and removal of the forms took another four hours. I was really impressed with the efficiency of the workers and really happy with the results. They even put cautionary tape up for me so that no one would drive on it until the concrete cures. The owner of the company
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
came by to inspect the work and pick up his payment, which I was happy to give to him thanking him and his workers for a job well done.
- William M.

The owner's son came out to our house, discussed options and explained the pros and cons of each one. He measured the driveway and gave us a firm price for 2 different options. We signed a contract and were given an estimate of one month before they would be able to fit us in. Last night, almost exactly one month since the estimate, they called. They were here before 7:00 this morning and were done by the time we got home from work at 5:00. We have a 3200 square foot driveway. The price was reasonable and the work was done very well. They got stuck in the yard at the end of our driveway as they pushed some dirt over to level it out and when we got home they had fixed the ruts they made in the yard. It's clean and beautiful! I would recommend them to all my friends!

This is a very tough grade to decide on. I've had experience with concrete providers in the past and it's rarely been 100% good. It must be a tough business to be in. Generally, they all seem either good at laying concrete or good at running a business -- rarely is it both. My primary requirement was to find someone that did a high quality job at a reasonable price. Concrete is just one of those things that HAS to be done right the first time.
My new house completed construction in March, 2015. Before it was even done, I poured through reviews on Angies List and came up with 3 possible providers that all had received good grades in the past. I called each of the contractors and received quotes over the winter/spring of 2015. Each was relatively responsive when it came to providing a quote. The contractor that I was most comfortable with,
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
, provided a quote that was over 20% more than the next 2. That ruled that particular contractor out. The final decision was between
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Pricing was very similar and their explanation of their process and suppliers was similar. When it came down to the final decision, I chose
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
mostly out of gut feel. I just trusted him right off the bat.
I'll start with the good.
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
is a nice guy and extremely thorough. He does very high quality work. I talked with him a couple of times while he was setting up or inspecting a pour. I was impressed with his knowledge and how many times he would measure the same exact thing to ensure it was correct. I learned a lot about concrete from the man. Now that my driveway is in, I'm extremely happy. I had a very screwy driveway (due to rules imposed by the local dictatorship). He worked around it. There were many challenges along the way and each time, he would find a very acceptable solution. Bottom line: If you want the job done well and at a reasonable price, he is definitely worth exploring. For those that had the same criteria as me, you can stop reading now.
It wasn't all sunshine and kittens. While the end result is most important, I could not, in good conscience, give
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
a straight out A. Pre-job communication and scheduling were horrible. As I mentioned earlier, I had
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
out in February to provide a quote. he delivered that in a reasonable timeframe and followed it up with a call a few weeks later, while I was still making my decision. That was all good. However, when I made my decision and provided him the signed contract, we agreed that he would tentatively schedule me for the end of June -- that was sometime around March/April, I believe. Seemed like I was pretty safe scheduling for a couple of months out and had beaten the spring rush. I didn't hear from
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
for quite awhile. I figured he'd give me a call once he was a couple of weeks out. Mid-June came and there was silence. I decided to give him a call. He explained that he was running behind and had some personal commitments that were also consuming a healthy portion of his time. All of this was understandable and I wasn't in a rush, I just wanted to plan appropriately.
The end of June came and went and I did not hear a thing. I called
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
again. At this point, it was generally taking him about a week to return my call. I was beginning to worry that he was either going out of business or just wasn't interested anymore. When he got back to me, he told me it would be about 2 weeks before he'd get out. I know this was a few weeks past my original scheduled timeframe but again, I was in no rush, just wanted to make sure I didn't have to restart the process and find a new contractor (good luck getting a concrete contractor in the middle of summer).
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
passed. Then August was well underway. I would call every couple of weeks and I was told they would be getting started in a couple more weeks. This may have only happened 2 or 3 times but it was enough that it seemed like it was going to go on forever. Ultimately, it threatened to impact the landscaping I had scheduled for early September. Who knew that 2 months was not enough cushion to build in.
Finally, in late August, his crew showed up to my house to prep for the driveway. There were a couple of guys and they put in a few hours of work and left. They showed up a couple of days later and repeated. Finally,
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
showed up on the 3rd visit and fixed everything his crew had done. Apparently, there were issues with his crew. In the end,
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
and a young kid (teenager?) knocked the whole thing out. I think this might have been a blessing because it was obvious he made sure things were done right.
When it's all said and done, it was completed at the very end of August and it took 3 pours. Might have even gone into the first day of September. Again, I can't repeat enough what a good job he did. It's just the other stuff that was frustrating. Since the quality of the work was the most important thing to me, I'm satisfied. I would probably use him again but only if I didn't have a tight schedule.
- Douglas A.

Our request for an estimate got an immediate response with an accurate schedule date. Got additional advisories a week, a day, and an hour in advance of their arrival. An impressive crew of hard working and efficient guys did their jobs and left not a speck of our property in disrepair. The product they left behind appears flawless to us. The price seems remarkably low considering the size of the crew and the equipment they brought.
In addition to the above basic considerations we appreciated the certainty of the transaction.
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
is an obviously well capitalized company that doesn't ask
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
for a down payment to finish
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
's driveway.
Also, in the course of the job a
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
carrying concrete up the driveway broke off a corner of an uneven, unsupported slab that we hadn't intended to replace.
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
brought it to our attention and, though it clearly was not their fault, cut out the damaged section and replaced it.
We rate them the most professional people ever to have done any home improvement work for us.
- Joseph S.

I called on 8/31/15 to get an estimate for a driveway resurface job and was told
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
would give me a call. He called on 9/1/15 and told me he would be out on 9/2/15. I informed him I would be home all day, so any time he could stop would be fine. No show and no call on 9/2/15 or even the rest of the week. I placed another call the next week on 9/8/15 and was told again that
Highland Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
would call. As of 9/10/15, still no call. I just wish if they didn't want the work, that they would have told me so to begin with so I could move on to someone that does want the work.
- John F.

They are an excellent company, do gorgeous work, and go above and beyond what is expected. They are meticulous with their work and I would highly, highly recommend them to others. I have never had any problems with them. They have added so much more value to my home and are 100% reliable and trustworthy. I can leave my hoouse and not have to worry that they are doing an excellent job. I plan to continue using them
