"Bathroom looks great, very responsive to any concerns and questions during project. Finished in time promised.

-Cathleen Z.

B
"First the bad then the good. 1. This project took almost 4 months. We were told a few weeks. 2. Communication between the office and workers needs a lot of work." 3. The estimates were confusing as were the details in the final bill. 4. Final touches were slow and I eventually finished the painting myself. 5. Lack of job oversight by the owner of this company. The good; 1. The mold/mitigation work was swift and well done. 2. Overall the finished product is good but for the price not perfect. I expected this to be wonderful and while I like it I don't love it. 3. We were so glad when it was done. 4. Love the shower tile and wood look floor tile. 5. Love the shower door but it isn't perfectly even.

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

?

You gave a good description, but without seeing some photos and maybe even the space itself it would still just be a guess.

A few years ago we replaced a significant load bearing beam to raise it up a foot in the new kitchen.  It was nearly 17' long with a new LVL beam.  For us this was pretty reasonable.  The LVL was about $250.  And maybe 12-15 2x6s, to temporarily support the ceiling joists, were probably like another $75.  The labor was $800.  There was also some finish work done afterward, but that was worked into a much bigger job for the entire floor.

Technically speaking, it is likely that you need to have something spec'd out by an engineer or architect, to calculate load, etc.  I don't know your area but in most places "a mere contractor, GC, or carpenter" is probably not allowed to just rip out a load-bearing wall without someone who is qualified to do the load calculations (which will be VERY conservative.  A brand new LVL will be VASTLY stronger than it really needs to be, but it won't be expensive.  The typical contractor will be like "hey we'll sister up two 2x12s", and not really know if that'll do the trick or not.  I'm not saying that all guys are like that, but ... it is what it is.

What you are talking about is probably at least a bit more involved and I'd love to give a good estimate but it's hard to say without a better understanding of the space.

You may be looking at $1500 - $3500?  It depends on too many specifics that we just can't know without a bunch of photos, and maybe even opening up a wall or ceiling to see exactly how temporary supports could be installed, and where the permanent beam/header could be placed and properly supported.  Your span isn't all that big so if at all possible I would do it without columns - it'll be much nicer.

If I were you I would first have a quick consultation with a "professional engineer".  They are qualified to calculate load etc - and cost a lot less than a full architect.  In my experience, an engineer just wants to provide a quick, proper solution without a lot of extra BS.  My experience with architects has been less than favorable.  Too much drama and expense and he actually spec'd things wrong and my carpenter had to pick up on it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  Good luck!!!

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

My wife and I have been contemplating for quite some time a major remodel of our kitchen which didn't work well for our lifestyle and family. When we finally decided to take the plunge, we researched a number of local contractors, spent time meeting with them, and understanding what could be done and, of course, at what price. We were fortunate to already have a design done by another party which included the removal of the wall between the rooms and the cabinet layout, so it was a good way to assess pricing across the final 3 providers whom we selected. Of the providers,
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the last one we had visit our house for the initial measurements and they suggested we stop by their showroom afterwards to choose finishes and discuss the project. We went a few days later and was pleasantly surprised that they already had a 3D rendering of our Kitchen for our discussion and they were able to accommodate some minor changes to cabinets / inserts / etc while we were picking out the remaining materials for the project. We had such a great experience and found the pricing to be very competitive with the other bids that we ultimately decided to move forward with them while we were in-store.
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very good about not pushing us towards particular products but trying to understand what we wanted and what kind of budget we were trying to hit.
They began work roughly 2 weeks later at which point we met the foreman
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his helper who would stay with us throughout the rest of the project. Both
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and Hakan visited regularly, especially during the removal of the load bearing wall, to oversee the progress and make sure that everything was being done correctly. They did discover some issues with the framing/support once they removed the drywall but it was fixed without any questions and they didn't try to charge more for doing everything the right way which was much appreciated given experiences some of our friends and family have had with contractors trying to nickle and dime you with every change. At the onset the team told us it would be 3 weeks of total work which we were concerned with giving our toddler but they delivered and we found it to be surprisingly manageable during this period. When it's all said and done the team did a fantastic job and the kitchen looks amazing! My wife and I are very pleased with the work and perhaps the best testimonial to what a great job
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did is the fact that we will be contacting them again in the future to remodel our master bathroom!

Our original shower was poorly made by builder. We first looked into the people who cover t he existing shower with acrylic liner. To our surprise the price was very high. We were driving by the newly opened design center in Forks on
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
Rd and decided to stop in not expecting much.
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
said he didn't do the acrylic and said we might try one that we had already gotten an estimate from. He did point out that he did tile for less that the acrylic. We were surprised but when he gave us an estimate it was almost half the cost of the other "cheaper" alternatives. It did take longer than expected but that is because they did it right and did a beautiful job. My wife is very picky and they worked with us on every tiny detail to get it the way she wanted it. The ladies in the design center were very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. The person who did most of the work was
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. He really took his time and did everything perfectly. He planned out the design of the tile and the niches so that everything was perfectly balanced. They didn't cheap out on the materials behind the tile so I'm sure this will last far longer than our original one did. The guys who helped him were also very nice and all worked very hard to get the job done.
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very helpful and easy to talk to. Overall an excellent experience and very high quality result.

If I ever had a question, I knew I could get my answer within a few hours day, night, or weekend. Their subs were the utmost professionals and I was never concerned with leaving my home with them working inside. I have, and will continue to, recommend

This kitchen remodel was a large project that was completed in a thoroughly professional manner from start to finish.
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
is the business owner. He came to our home to discuss what we wanted and did an excellent job of asking questions as well as answering our questions and helped us get a better understanding of what was involved with a kitchen remodel. He had several ideas that we adopted. After that meeting he prepared a design draft and an initial quote and provided us with various material samples. We met again and worked out further details. Our next meeting was at the
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
offices on Westbourne Avenue. There we were able to see cabinet and granite samples and, after going over all the details in the contract, signed and placed a deposit. The work was then scheduled. This entire process was entirely amicable and devoid of any sort of pressure. We appreciated
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
's patience and the good advice we received from him.
The work began in a timely manner and continued at an appropriate pace. Two members of his crew --
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked

Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked

Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did a masterful job with the drywall and ceiling plaster. All of their work was professional grade and it was clear they took pride in doing quality work.
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked

Millions thanks to
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and their entire team. The company was very "on top of it" and either had a supervisor or manager of the company on the job site making sure everything was in order and going as agreed. Our roof project was frustrating due to our negligence in waiting so long to replace it. They were very responsible and careful to ensure that they repaired the areas affected by the leak in our roof and finished everyting on top beautifully. I would like to say that I 100% trust this team and appreciate them ALL for their hard work and dedication to the job, very good working attitudes and fast, this is an accountable company that I have never seen before. As near as we can tell,
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
consists of a husband and wife, an

Boiler Room operation, a truly magnificent Potemkin village of a website, and one or more estimators who claimed variously to represent them (or maybe someone else!).
We initially contacted them after viewing the website, which resulted in a relentless pursuit by the Boiler Room Boys, a visit by a contractor who presented himself as another company and who produced an instant estimate (more than 250% of what it finally cost) with no measurements or calculations. We had not called this guy. He said he had "heard" that we were looking for a contractor. For reasons we will explain, we now believe this guy was a
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
.
There was a subsequent visit by someone else claiming to represent them who did make what appeared to be a real estimate (but only good if we signed the contract right then and there). This latter estimator told us what a deal we were getting. He said other companies would quote us much, much more, and then produced the *same* high figure as the putative
Grantsville Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. A big, high pressure close followed.
We got suspicious and called all numbers for them we found on the internet or that were associated with them (such as the estimator's business card). None of the numbers were operable except the one for the wife on their website's Domain Name Registration. The other was for the husband who was listed as owner of Superb at the Better Business Bureau and had the same number.
At the Better Business Bureau there was a recent, unresolved complaint alleging that Superb had accepted a large deposit on a job, then disappeared. Alarmed, we decided to go with someone else who completed the work in a little over a week, doing a great job for about the amount quoted by Superb in the second, "real" estimate. So the *amount* of that quote was about right.
Note that we can't really say that Superb is a con, since we didn't go with them. But we can promise you an interesting experience if you call them.... ;-) And of course, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and has a beak and webbed feet, well, you know the rest. Good luck to you!
