"Having been familiar with Dr. from extensive work he'd done on my daughter, I decided to have him do a dental implant on a molar which" had weakened over time with a large filling. Just as with my daughter's course of treatment, Dr. was thorough and professional in his explanation of what had to be done, and why. The work, itself, took over a year to accomplish because of a required jaw bone graft. Appointments were on-time, work was accomplished with minimal discomfort and the follow-up care was exemplary. Even calls at home to insure patient well-being and answer any questions. I also know of several others who have had work done by Dr. , and they feel the same as I. Totally professional! Also accepts Tricare retiree dental plan insurance for military veterans.

I am familiar witht he ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers across the country, in particluar, the one in Overland Park, KS.  They are a "one stop" implant center.  The doctors there are at the top of their field, and an advantage is that you have all of the specialists that will be working with you in the same place.  That would have to make communication easier between doctors.  They usually offer seminars for patients and I think, offer free consultations, which is always worthwhile.

If you chose to go the other way, some Prosthodontists will place and restore the implants themselves. In other cases, an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist will place the implant and a Prosthodontist or General Dentist restores it.   Fees can vary quite a bit from office to office and with the different options for restorative materials.  Some offer free consultations, for others, they charge a fee that might be applied to any future treatment in some cases.

The first step is to schedule a few consultations with different providers, which it sounds like you've already done.

The most important factors when deciding which practitioner to work with:
:
.1.  You should feel comfortable asking your doctor any questions so that you have a good understanding of the procedure itself, healing time and long-terem outcome, and possible complications.  Write down a list of questions and take them with you to the consultation.

2.  Ask about the experience of the practitioner. How many similiar procedures have they completed?  Have they had any major complications with any cases?  Ask to see photos if possible.

3..Figure out if it works out better for your schedule, to go to a "one stop" provider or to separate providers for the placement and the restoration of the implants.

4. Follow your instincts.  If you feel rushed, didn't get direct answers to your questions, didn't communicate well or had any other negative feelings, this probably isn't the doctor for you.

5. Consider insurance coverage and financing options.  If your dental plan covers implants and it is important to you to use a preferred provider, you will want to check your list.  Many times, insurance does not cover implants, or at least not all of the steps.  You may want to inquire about payment and financing options.

I hope this at least helps you feel a little less confused and a little more directed. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of further help.
Sincerely,
Beth L. Gehring,DDS, PC

As a  Dentist, I am sorry to hear about your denture nightmare and I know how frustrating that can be.  I am surprised that your doctor wasn't willing to work with you on some type of solution.  A few options would be either remaking the dentures once more,  or offering to return some of the money and have you return the dentures.   Unfortunately, the doctor has put in a lot of their time and lab expenses, but the patient also  has time and money invested.  You might try sending a letter re-explaining the problems you hand and offering an acceptible and fair solution.  Be sure to keep a copy of it and any correspondence you receive from the Dental Office.  In the event that you don't get anywhere, you have documentation of the problem.

At any point in the process, did they have you sign something saying you were happy with the denture set up?  Some practitioners will document the patient's acceptance at the try-in appointment, before the denture is processed.  At that time, changes in tooth arrangement, size and color can be made with minimal lab expense.

If the letter doesn't get you anywhere, you might try going to the governing body of the dental profession in your area.  I am a dentist in Blue Springs, Missouri, USA.  Here, we have the Missouri Dental Board  (or the Dental Division of the Missouri Department of Professional Registration.)  This is the entity that licenses us to perform our professional duties in our state.  They often have a process to file complaints against a provider if you were unable to resolve the problem yourself.   After your complaint is received, they will contact the doctor to get their side of the story, then try to mediate a solution between the two parties.

As far as a new set of dentures, you might seek out the services of a Prosthodontist (specializes in dentures and removable appliances - extra training and certification beyond general dentistry) or go to a local dental school.  The students are supervised and checked off at each step by professionals.  Most dental schools also treat patients through their faculty practices, and you can often get the services of a specialist at a lower price.

I hope this information is helpful to your situation, and I wish you well.

He didn't have a diagnosis, but was able to out a few things and gave me several referrals. He is very communicative, never dismissive, gentle manner yet still very matter-of-fact. Very trustworthy, and his write-up of his assessment and recommendations after our appointment was the most complete I've ever seen.

It went very smoothly. Dr Samouhi and his assistants performed the implant procedure in a very professional and predetermined fashion. There was no doubt that he knew exactly what he was going to do and did it in a precise exacting manner. I have had no problem with this implant and don't think I will. He works with confidence and skill. All ...More my questions were answered in a knowledgeable way.

I have had 9 implants and one peridontal surgery during the last decade or so and Dr. has done them all. I have had NO trouble with any of them. My only objection is that I've been told he's more expensive than others offering the same service. But I haven't confirmed that personally and will continue to use that office.

Very clean and friendly office - all staff was great and made sure I understood everything going on. I also discuss an implant to replace the missing tooth and the correction of a fistula on the opposite side. Very honest - gave me the discount I was entitled to with my Preffered NetworkAcess plan through CIGNA. Dr. was very ...More gentle and removed the tooth quickly without btreaking it more. I am usually a coward but he was great and I hope I don't need another tooth extracted but if I do I would go back to him

Dr. Claizio was arrogant and unprofessional.. He was annoyed that I had gone to another oral surgeon to have a tooth extracted. I had called Dr 's office first but he did not have an opening for two weeks and I had been in pain because the tooth had cracked. He told me that the other oral surgeon had caused damage and that ...More he was "tired of other surgeons sending their problems" to him to fix. I told Dr. 's that I chose to come to him for the implant, the other surgeon did not send me to him. I told him I had no idea there was a problem and that it was not my fault if damage was done. He agreed that it was not my fault but said it was not his fault either. He continued to complain about other oral surgeons from " as far away as New " who send their "problems" to him to fix. Even though he said the oral surgeon who had done my extraction had done a bad job, he suggested, several times, that I go back to him to have the implant done. I told him I would not go back to the other surgeon. He said the only reason he would consider doing my implant was because he could use me "as an example" of bad work for his lectures but then said he didn't need any more bad examples. It was the worst experience, by far, that I have encountered with a medical "professional". He did not treat me as a person, he treated me as a "problem". I had not met Dr prior to my appointment. I went with positive expectations; referred to him by a retired dentist that he knew quite well. Being treated this way was the last thing I expected from an oral surgeon. I left his office in tears.

I had a referral, but did have to wait a few weeks before an available appointment. Scheduling was relatively easy, but when I asked about whether or not they were In-Network, the response was very murky, something like "Oh, we work with a lot of insurances, just come in and we'll give you the estimate at the consultation", despite me ...More specifically giving them my insurance information.
The office itself was very nice and comfortable, and the staff was relatively pleasant. I filled out an online form for my medical and family history, so there was little paperwork when I arrive. I was taken back to an exam room and waited for about 15 minutes until the doctor came in to explain the procedure. He recited a description of what would occur during the surgery, but he did stop to ask if I had any questions. A few minutes later, I was free to go.
My overall satisfaction plummeted when the receptionist confirmed they could not bill in-network. I felt a little duped by this, since they did not confirm nor deny the in-network status when I had scheduled my appointment. It felt like a complete waste of my time: filling out the online forms, taking time off work for the consultation, waiting several weeks for the appointment, etc. I thought their methods a bit deceptive, and wound up with a $90 bill with nothing to show for it.
While I understand they were out of network, my disappointment with the fact that they were very murky about insurance and I felt they deliberately mislead me in order to come in for an appointment. I would not have wasted their time or mine had they just come out and said they were out of network for my provider when I asked.

The 2013 lateral sinus lift on the upper right side worked out really well when I had two implants installed months later. In 2015 I needed a lateral sinus lift on the other (upper left) side. Since the situation was above average difficulty (hardly any bone behind position #13), didn't want implant #13 damaged, the previous sinus lift went ...More so well, Dr. is very experienced and his price very reasonable, I went to him for the procedure. Dr. is very patient dealing with issues and answering questions. He identified a relevant sinus issue from the CBCT in the initial consult, which we resolved before doing the sinus lift in order to help ensure a good outcome. He is careful, quick, skillful and experienced in execution. his surgical asst is also excellent and very kind. Five+ weeks after the Sept 9 2015 procedure, it looks like a nice result exceeding my best expectations. Dr. ’s other staff members (especially Audwin and ) were very helpful and nice
