"Really well! I had researched through Consumer Reports, True Car and
to find average pricing. Then I used my AAA membership to find a participating" AAA dealer. Contacted FF and
returned my email inquiry very quickly. I had been VERY detailed in original communication what I wanted and color, trim, etc.
replied he could have it in lot with a day's notice and gave me the AAA pricing right in the email. I didn't have to come in to find out what it was, I didn't have to call. I didn't have to DO anything to be informed of the price. Good price, too. Sticker was 38035 (yes, I wanted EVERYTHING). AAA pricing after about 1500 in Ford promotional stuff is 32162. All these number are before tax, title, license, registration. Asked via email about extended warranties. No secret there either! 7 years and 100k miles, bumper to bumper, zero deductible; $2900. So I make appointment for a Friday mid morning. He tells me to ask for
. I'm a little confused on the names. But, whatever. I planned to go from dentist office after having a tooth pulled. Figured my day was shot anyway. Lump all the painful into one day, right? I get there.

I say I want the Escape on trade with the extended warranty and ALL the tax, title, license, and registration for 33.5 or I'm taking another deal at Hyundai for 33.9 (I lied, it's a CAR dealership- don't hold it against me!). So, it should be 32k (AAA pricing) + 3k (extended warranty) + 2k (about that for ttlr) - 1k for trade= roughly 36k. Disappears again, comes back, 34k. Sold. The in person negotiations took maybe 20 minutes. No pressure. No sign here first. No nothing. Now, getting the financing paperwork, the vehicle detailed... Patience. But, I was enjoying the drugs from dentist anyway. All in all, darn nice dealership, coordination, teamwork, professionalism. Yeah, I'd send a friend over!!

Sounds like your biggest problem will be narrowing your list to a limited number of models, and deciding what brand names you are willing to consider to narrow the field.

You can search for websites blogging complaints for each model you are considering to see how they rate with users, and you can also go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website at     www.nhtsa.gov     to see how many recalls there have been on a specific model and year.

Most dealers these days have websites with their listed prices for new and used cars that you can browse to get an idea of available listed prices.

I would also recommend that you check out the used car values (free) for models you might be interested in on    www.edmunds.com    and on Kelley Blue Book  -  www.kbb.com

Those 2 sources will give you a lot of negotiating power, because they list what the dealer pays the manufacturer on new cars, shows what people have been paying for each vehicle model and model year, and shows used valuations also. There are undoubtedly other such sources also - these are just the ones I have used and seem to be the best known.

I am in Afghanistan and the primary car my wife drives around in with our three kids is getting old and has high mileage so we decided to trade it for a newer one so I would not have to worry about them sitting on the side of the road while I am so far away. My wife loves our MDX so much she wanted the same car so we found a newer one with the options we wanted and it was over a 2hr drive so she decided to call over the phone to get the details worked out so she was not sitting at the dealership for hours with three kids after driving for two hours. The first red flag was it took two days to hear back (I figured ok they are busy and making all the sales they could with people in the store and I was not in a rush). Then they came back with the deal but said they could not accept the power of attorney (that my wife just used to buy a house for us) for the vehicle we wanted but they would accept it for a 2014-15 Volkswagen (Second Red Flag). The car was bought in 2013, with a warranty already on it from 2012. June 21, 2015 the car broke down on the side of the road and the car was towed to the nearest Fiat dealership. The dealer told us it would cost 1600 to fix, even though the car is still under warranty. I spoke with the owner and he said he could bring the cost down to 1300 but refuse to honor the warranty. I wrote a letter to head of operations and they even still refuse to honor the warranty. They said the warranty on the clutch had expired, which was true. But the car still had an extended warranty on the entire car and the dealership is claiming that the extended warranty does not cover the clutch.

The salesmen were unfriendly and unhelpful. They wouldn't even acknowledge us because we brought in an old Saturn for a trade. When I went in for service, they tried to add in a bunch of things that didn't need to be done and I stopped going to that facility.

I think it went well considering we decided to wait until next spring to purchase a new vehicle. The salesperson went over the many options and was straightforward with everything. He was not pushy and there was no high pressure sales practices, we didn't feel pressured to buy a vehicle right now. This was one of the best experiences I've had dealing with a car dealership, and will more than likely go back in the spring to purchase a vehicle.

OK-but, they checked off that they checked the air filter, but dust on the cover tells me they did not. There are 2 recall notices out on this vehicle, they tell me 1 applies only to certain areas of the country and parts are not available for the other. When I called Ford Motor company customer service, they confirm the lack of parts for the 1, but said the dealer should perform the other,customer service tried to call the dealer and got no answer!
Previously I was told tires needed to be replaced and while they were within the warranty of the original equipment guarantee, they would not assist in getting the warranty compensation. I went to Discount Tires and they saved me $260.
