"the plumber quoted us a price for work. It is on the high side. He claimed he had to move stuff around. that is why it cost as much. If we used our own faucet to" replace the one that was leaking we would have had to pay the wjole cost, not just the service fee. the faucet they wanted to use was a cheap piece of garbage. We were going to save them the cost of a faucet but they did not like that.

(AHS) used a horrible pool service company to repair my pump. This company then lied to AHS and told them that my pump had been broken for" months, which would void the warranty because the pump would have been broken prior to my service contract with AHS. This was not the case. This company uses horrible contractor (in my experience) for their repairs. EVERY phone call I made to AHS I was on AT LEAST a 45 min hold. When I did cancel the entire phone call lasted 1hr 15min, 50-60 min of that I was on hold between 2-3 people. I have filed a successful BBB complaint against them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

What's Included in a Good Home Warranty?

What separates a good home warranty from a bad one?

Home warranties

Year after year home warranty companies have topped the Angie's List most complained about category list, with nearly half of member reports in this category rating these companies unfavorably. The key behind this appears to be an expectations gap between the companies and their clients regarding what is covered and whether service calls on covered items are entirely free.

No. 1: fire stations make good neighbors. If you’re more than five miles from a fire station or more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant, you’ll pay several hundred dollars more per year for your policy.

Angie's Answers

First, call your insurance company and tell them you do not want any proceeds paid to the contractor under your policy as you are not going with them.  This way they can not collect money on your behalf.  Insurance will typically have you sign a form for release of funds anyway but this is a good extra step to make sure your signature isn't forged.  Second, call the contractor and tell them you will not be needing their services afterall.  Did your husband pay a deposit?  If so it may be non-refundable.  Then follow up with a certified letter.

An email as well doesn't hurt but some states don't yet recognize email as a form of communication for legally binding documentation.  This may have changed and I'm sure more states do recognize them as I haven't followed that topic elsewhere as much as I used to.  The contractor's office should be local.  A sure fire way to ensure they got the message is to deliver the letter to the office of the contractor and have someone at the office sign a duplicate stating it has been recieved and read.  There's no arguing whether they received it or not by doing that.

Hopefully you've learned your lesson about high pressure sales techniques and storm chasers looking for a quick buck.  Some people find out a much harder way.  While these guys may be legitimate you should always do your homework on a contractor before signing the contract.  Unless you have water running out of the house and the work has to be done on the spot it's not so much of an emergency that it can't wait until the next day.

Consider going to library an reading Consumer Reports rating on home insurance companies in your area.  For affordabilty elect the highest deductable you can stomach.  This will lower your premioum, I went thru Costco, they and Sam's Club can be a valuable resource for home and car insurance. Home Warranty reviews in Plano

The multiple times I've called on
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
for both my homes, they send the dumbest and cheapest technicians they could find. Even if you have something as
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
as a clogged drain, the companies they call out can't handle it. One time I had to call Roto Rooter out after having one of their "highly vetted and trained" plumbers come out. It took him a half hour of half-
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
the job, then he charged me my fee and left. After he left I called Roto Rooter and they were there within an hour and unclogged the drain in 5 minutes. No problem. It cost me $115 for Roto Rooter to come out, but they were efficient. Over they years when I've had their "highly trained" technicians come out they show up, look at the problem, say they can't do anything and leave. I would wind up fighting with the people at
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
because they will always find a loop-hole way out fixing anything, leaving you stuck with calling a real technician out and paying them the full price. I found that since I've dropped
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
on my primary residence I've saved money. I was paying them $800 a year for my policy, and I would pay $65 for a "highly trained professional" to show up at my house to tell me the loop-hole of how
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
won't fix the issue. So now I call the real professionals out for not much more than what the service call charge was, and I don't have to fork over $800 a year.

Charged for things that did not require fixing……contract state certain coverage which they refuse to honor…dishonest at every level
- David P.

They would not make the repairs that they say are covered, always had to pay a lot out of pocket. Do not use AHS., They charge a lot for yearly contract and charge the highest copays of any home warranty. Also if you actually ask for repairs they will cancel you and not renew. Spent $700-800 for 10 years and they never seemed to cover things and each time they worked on the old furnace it was for replacement parts to keep it limping along and they would charge me $100 co pay. Do not use AHS!!!
- jennie B.

Easy submission of problem to AHS; quick reply by contractor to set appointment. Super fast determination of issue and motor replacement - he was in and out in about half an hour. Great contractor!

At the time of writing this review, I notice that there is another bad experience and we are barely finished with the first week of the month. I have been a client with HT Warranty for 5 months due to Angie's List recommendation. However, had an issue with Air Conditoning prior to the weekend. HT Warranty was sent an emergency email. (Hyperlink is not a form, only an email). Has been an ongoing issue for over 7 months with the hyperlink according to spokes person. I felt insecure about the email being delivered, so I called the number listed and was forwarded to voice mail for a person named
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
. This person sent a text, for me to call another number, which I did. This message was the same voice mail for
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
and I left about 3 messages; the last stating I was very uncomfortable leaving a message with a calling service that uses first names instead of company names. After about 4 hours of calling; I received a call stating a contractor would call within the next day or two.
The contractor arrived, I paid $290 for Freon which was not covered. However, when I looked in my files, I had sent a copy of the inspection report done one month prior to taking services with HT. Bottom Line, I could not get a straight answer on how much HT would provide to cover the monetary costs of replacing a unit should it come to that. The gentleman who I last talked to stated that, "HT did not have enough of my money invested to warrant paying for a complete replacement". Being said that they could not quantify an amount other than possible about $400 to replace a $5000 dollar unit, I elected to discontinue giving them anymore of my money.
If they could not guarantee more than 10% of the costs to replace this item, I am only surmising that they would pay even less if any to replace a washer/dryer, or any other item that cost significantly less than an Air conditioning unit. If you use these guys you are on your own. I imagine that this review will probably be met with "... There are two sides to each story". However, take a look at the majority of issues by members. There are more complaints than kudos. Buyer beware.

Although I had a lot of doubts with home warranty in
general, Landmark really proved to be one of the most trustworthy companies
I’ve ever dealt with. Let me just tell you that they won’t cold shoulder you;
they will actually resolve your issues. I was treated with dignity, respect,
genuine care, and very fairly. They stand behind their promises, respond in a
timely manner, and treat you like an actual human. Even though this may sound
basic, it’s really hard to find this kind of treatment nowadays with customer
service in general. This team is very well trained and understands how to
professionally deal with the frustration of a customer with a claim. They
actually speak English (the English you’ll understand) and are not just
repeating a bunch of phrases that they were taught, they’re genuine. The
managers are amazing and just get things done (thanks to

It’s as if my house was waiting for the warranty to go in
effect before it broke down all at once! On the second months of my warranty,
my ac broke down (everyone’s nightmare repair). I did have a few issues with
the contractor, but my issues were all resolved and ac was fixed within a
fairly quick time frame. In a repair that should have cost around $2,500.00, I
only paid $290 (out of pocket) + $60 service fee. On the same day when the ac
guy came for inspection, my water heater broke down (Yes, I definitely felt
cursed!). So now I had 2 open claims,
and a house that was unbearable! When the plumbing contractor assigned to the
job failed to show, I was even allowed to bring a company I previously worked
with and was approved the reimbursement of $375. Other than the fact that I was
truly saved from all of these sudden expenses, this company’s customer service
really impressed me. It was truly worth spending the time to detail my
experience here in a review as a

thank you to their professionalism.
Also since I rely completely on reviews for services, I know this may help a
lot of people out there make informed decisions.

First and foremost: When you purchase a warranty from this company READ THE FINE PRINT. The devil is in the details and he is shrewd. I have had 3 home
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
in my lifetime and this is by far the worst. I have used American Home shield and First American, and whenever a covered appliance went out they responded, made repairs, life went on! Not so fast with Hi-
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
. I called to report my AC unit was frozen and a call was placed to a service
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
who responded the next day. He wasn't there 5 minutes and took one look at the unit and said Hi-
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
wasn't going to cover the cost of the repair, and this was with the"Platinum" service package. He stated that in the fine print it states that the covered or sealed portion of the AC, which by the way is about half or more of the unit, IS NOT COVERED! This is also the most likely part of the unit to break down. I had a Freon leak, which can you guess, they don't COVER! He then told me that he can fill it up with Freon and stop leak for an additional $300 and get us up and running. It was over 100 degrees outside that week, so I told him to fix it. He called the warranty company back to let them know what he found and Hi
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
then stated it was a preexisting condition. This is a little tactic of theirs to get away with NOT COVERING the problem. Keep in mind the AC had been running since April, and they said because we bought it in November it was preexisting--please explain that to me. We also found out that if--IF--they covered the repair they would pro-rate the cost based on the age of the unit. After reading the fine print, we found out that they would not even pay for 1/3 of the cost of a new unit. So either way we pay out the rear for what we thought was covered by HI-
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
. To make matters worse we found the AC
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
they sent ripped us off. He charged us for 5 lbs. of R22, when the unit only held 4 1/2, and it had over a pound in it when he got there, do the math and well--lesson learned. In summary, be aware that though you are paying a couple hundred less for a year warranty, there is a lot of fine print you need to read VERY CAREFULLY before making the purchase! Very disappointed in the service, and I will not do business with HI-
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
again. In the end I paid them for the warranty, paid their rip off man, and I had to have the entire unit replaced at my expense. I wasted over $800
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
around with this crap, and that's before the $3800 I paid out of pocket for a new unit. There are far better
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
out there for a little bit more per year!

After a few months at my new home I discovered a leak somewhere. Submitted a service request and it has been 7+ days and I still haven't been able to get someone out to my house. They claim a contractor will respond within 48 hours. What they don't tell you is that if the first contractor doesn't respond within 48 hours, they send it to a queue for another contractor and keep repeating the process. Imagine how this would go when your heating system

in the middle of the winter.
This appears to be a scam...stay away.
