"
uses 3rd party contractors to make repairs to your home. The problem with this model is that the 3rd party does not have any incentive to provide a quality repair," but is highly motivated to keep costs down for the warranty company. For example, my air conditioning compressor went out while under this warranty. The 3rd party contractor installed a new compressor, but chose to tape the wires together with electrical tape rather than use the proper wiring harness. The compressor worked for a year, but then shorted out and caught fire because of the poor wiring job. I was left paying another $800+ for a decent contractor to come out and install the proper wiring harness after the so-called warranty had expired. I am thankful that my home did not burn down. Another detail worth mentioning is that
only
the repairs for 30 days. So, if the same thing breaks again 32 days later (as happened to me on an electrical problem), they will charge another $60 service fee. Finally,
does not cover everything - animal removal and damage repair, for example, is excluded from coverage. UPDATE: After posting this review,
contacted me regarding the faulty wiring job performed by their contractor. They apologized for the poor quality, and asked to review a copy of my repair invoice. After emailing it to them, they reimbursed me most of the cost of the repair - even though I was no longer a customer. I appreciate their effort and willingness to do the right thing.

"One Guard is horrible. All they do is make up excuses but take your money. So frustrating dealing with them. Last winter when we had a freeze I reported a problem with a leak are" our pool equipment. Took them one week to get someone out to diagnose that lied about what WE spoke about. Then took another 2 1/2 weeks to get someone else out. Pool was down for 3-3 1/2 weeks in winter. Not good. Besides we had to pay out of pocket for new heater. Then our Sub zero refrigerator was leaking. I shut down the water line. They sent someone out & said I need a part & that will be $59.00. Three weeks later no part. Again another frustrating situation with One Guard. The next day I called another company & guess what-they had part in stock. I don't understand how you Angie list people can give this company positive feedback. By the way we had been with another warranty company for 12 years that never gave us all these problems.

7 components of a good home warranty

Home warranty companies are the number one most complained about category on Angie’s List. If you decide to purchase a warranty, look for the components of a good home warranty before signing the contract.

Home warranties

Year after year home warranty companies have topped the Angie's List most complained about category list, with nearly half of member reports in this category rating these companies unfavorably. The key behind this appears to be an expectations gap between the companies and their clients regarding what is covered and whether service calls on covered items are entirely free.

A home warranty, or home service contract, provides service, repair or replacement on a home’s major systems and appliances for a usual term of one year. They've also topped our list of most-complained about categories for three years running.

First, call your insurance company and tell them you do not want any proceeds paid to the contractor under your policy as you are not going with them.  This way they can not collect money on your behalf.  Insurance will typically have you sign a form for release of funds anyway but this is a good extra step to make sure your signature isn't forged.  Second, call the contractor and tell them you will not be needing their services afterall.  Did your husband pay a deposit?  If so it may be non-refundable.  Then follow up with a certified letter.

An email as well doesn't hurt but some states don't yet recognize email as a form of communication for legally binding documentation.  This may have changed and I'm sure more states do recognize them as I haven't followed that topic elsewhere as much as I used to.  The contractor's office should be local.  A sure fire way to ensure they got the message is to deliver the letter to the office of the contractor and have someone at the office sign a duplicate stating it has been recieved and read.  There's no arguing whether they received it or not by doing that.

Hopefully you've learned your lesson about high pressure sales techniques and storm chasers looking for a quick buck.  Some people find out a much harder way.  While these guys may be legitimate you should always do your homework on a contractor before signing the contract.  Unless you have water running out of the house and the work has to be done on the spot it's not so much of an emergency that it can't wait until the next day.

I went online with a request for service on a Wednesday afternoon. (my mistake) I finally got in touch with them on Thursday and they sent out a repairman same day. It was hot and this was the guest room where we had visiting family. Tech could not fix it that day, needed a part. Warranty service drug their feet getting back to me when I did not get any news Friday and finally said they needed a copy of the inspection on the house. They held up the whole process until Monday and my guests withered in the heat during the weekend. This is a unit specific to the guest suit. When they returned my calls and told me they approved the work the tech could not work on it until Tuesday. Finally the tech shows on Tuesday and replaces the part and the unit worked fine until 20 minutes after the tech left. It was 9:00pm before he made it back to make an adjustment that finally fixed the unit.

I felt the warranty service company could have done much more to get the unit fixed in a more timely manner. I don't understand why they don't work on weekends.

I recently purchased a 40+ year old home, and, at the advice of my realtor, negotiated for the sellers to purchase a home warranty. I had no input or choice as to the company chosen. Both the service and coverage of this company are abysmal.

Though the policy was purchased in early June, the company did not provide me with the contract until late September. When I called after moving into the house in mid-August, I was told that the warranty covered the air conditioner, the trash compactor, and sundry other appliances that are not present - but not the washer and dryer. It was at this time they told me they would send out the contract, but it would not arrive for 6 weeks! In my book, there is absolutely no excuse for such poor service.
When I got the contract, I looked at it carefully. Knowing my range needed to be fixed, I considered whether I should just forget the home warranty and call someone myself, as they charge $75 just for using the service - but I figured I would pay that anyway, and then any parts and labor would be covered. I would've been far better off to forget this worthless piece of crap warranty. You have no control over who they send - why they would choose a shop over 40 miles away when there are plenty within 10 miles and a few within the same town, I don't know - and then they find some b.s. fine print to not cover even the limited appliances that are covered.
And then their reason for not covering: The range was not recently installed, it is several years old. The back burner would not light because, according to the technician, the burner cover was the wrong size. But of course the burner wouldn't light without a cap on it, either. However, that does not seem to matter. I am on the hook for $181 to the technician - $75 service call, $76 for 4 new burner caps (you can't get just one), and $30 "labor." And I was told that I will still be charged the $75 for AHS, even though they provided NO SERVICE.

This company is nothing but a schister operation. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, at least, and, if possible, the Dept. of Commerce. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!! Note - Years ago I had a home warranty (I can't remember the company) and I felt they were fair, honest, and provided a worthwhile service, so it's not that I'm biased against the industry.

As has been my experience with
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
, they send pros out to make the repairs and they get the job done. A/C broke on a rental house. My tenant calls
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
directly and scheduled the repair. A very true review is one given to you by a tenant. They told me how fast they were to respond, fixed the problem and left the place without a mess. An A+ in my book.
They are not the least expense home warranty company, but you do get what you pay for. For me that is fast, professional repairs. Isn't that what we want in a warranty company?

I contacted
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
and my call was answered immediately by a customer care representative. I paid my service fee of only $59.00 and the representative issued a work order to Bohemian Air. Bohemian Air contacted me within 2 hours and was out to fix my AC the same day. The tech was professional and informative. He took the time to explain what the issue was and what he had to do to fix it. He made sure my AC was working properly before he left. My home warranty has saved me hundreds of dollars. I only had to pay the service fee. There were not any

We were very pleased with the services. I was reluctant at first in obtaining a Home Warranty but after researching and reading their reviews I purchased it not only for our home but for our rental properties. The 1-800 customer service representative, both times that we had to call were very pleasant to work with and we did not feel rushed. ...More /> In addition, the account representative,
Plano Home Warranty Companies Provider Name Locked
, when we initially purchased was very well versed on the product and explained everything in detail. We have recommended One Guard to our family and friends. We know that stuff breaks and we are so happy that we chose One Guard to protect our homes.
