"On the surface, at first, the GC's work seemed to go well. However, it became evident, over time, that the Principals had misled us in several ways. And though it appeared that the GC was unfocussed in his work -- leaving multiple projects unfinished and moving on to start other contractuallyrequired projects (that eventually would also be left unfinished)... it became
quite obvious by mid-November that the GC was playing us for a fool and -- on November 11th (one day prior to our 47th wedding anniversary) attempted to use the unfinished projects as "leverage" when the principals (
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
J. Brothers and
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
Reed) tried to extract more money from us than called for in the contract, by threatening to abandon the entire remodel job without completing all of the half-started projects... if we did not pay them more money than what they had initially asked for (and for which a signed contract was obtained).
The owner of
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
, LLC misinformed us about the number of employees they had;
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
us to believe they had large machinery easily available (for ground work), but did not; and owner,
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
J. Brothers often repeated the term, "Trust me! It'll get done," when I inquired why contractually required "high priority jobs" were not being accomplished -- especially for outside jobs during good weather windows and for inside "living space" areas, such as the main living area floor and a damaged
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
-ceiling that their employee stepped through in the first week (rather than basement rooms which was of a lower priority).
Prior to signing the contract, when I inquired about the number of their employees, they replied, "Six." There were really only three (including the two principals) and, most often, only the two principals showed up (rarely before 10:00 or 11:00 am, after stating they would be on site by 8 or 9 am). Some days they would not show up at all. The one "regular" -- if I can call him that -- rarely showed up, because he did not have a car and the GC often refused to pick him up due to the extra driving distance. The "crew" often took excessive cigarette breaks (surrounding the property with clouds of smoke that would very often
drift into the home -- due to open doors or windows. To my dismay, I discovered the crew often put out their cigarettes on our porch's wood railing and on the brick walls of our house (I have photos).
The GC then proposed a "labor only" contract that was finalized on September 23. I typed the contract (originally presented to me by the GC in poorly formatted, hand-written form) and they signed it. During this good-weather period, they continually stalled on outdoor projects that needed to be completed prior to poor weather setting in.
In the meantime, I caught Mr.
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
and a crew member cheating, when they covered up a known mold issue, in the Sunroom. The job called for removal of molded drywall and insulation; homeowner application of TSP to rid the area of the mold issues and application of BIN to all treated areas; GC was to install newinsulation and add new drywall. Instead of removing the bad insulation and allowing for TSP treatment and BIN coverage of the mold, they attempted to seal it closed with new drywall, while I was off-site. When I questioned the GC as to why he nailed and screwed in the drywall, over the mold, he nervously laughed (a laugh he used whenever he avoided the truth) and told me, "We were just testing to see if the drywall pieces fit." I reminded him
that, in all the weeks that they had installed nearly 2000 linear feet of replacement drywall, they had never nailed and screwed it down with the intent to "test" the fit.
In order to install new French doors to a now non-existent patio,
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
Brothers (
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
Extreme Levels, LLCowner) and his "crew" removed brick masonry from our kitchen eating area wall and took out a large portion of outside soffit and fascia , which then created large holes/gaps surrounding the partially-installed patio French Doors (which has allowed severe weather to enter the attic/walls/sub-floor), after site abandonment. They left partially completed porcelain tile floors (improperly laid over Durock™ that was not put down to mfgr specs); some tile not laid at all; and grout wiped out of spacings, by using too much pressure during sponge cleanup); outdoor property was improperly regraded (not to specifications); a dangerous "open pit" hallway bathroom floor was abandoned (with joists and basement ceiling drywall exposed on the main level); basement and main level sub-standard drywall installation (poorly taped, mudded and sanded); kitchen cabinet projects left in the form of
"puzzles" (or left incomplete); a botched Master Bath shower... and the list goes on and on.
I even caught the crew sealing up a bedroom wall, with new drywall, without installing new sound-deadening insulation that was in the contract -- and had been discussed with the GC on multiple occasions.
There is so much more I could report, but I haven't the inclination to waste
more time than this GC has already stolen from me... except to say:
On November 11, 2013, the principals of
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
, LLC attempted to
extract additional monies from us (Home Owner) for contracted work already in
progress or already complete-- without contractually required written and
signed Change Orders in trade for continuing/completing over 40 unfinished
projects, under the contract -- work for which agreed-to fees had
previously been proposed, by the contractor, and for which they were
contractually bound. On November 11th 2013, a verbal threat was made to
walk-away and abandon the job site if we did not give in to their request for
more money and, in the GC's words, to "Throw me a bone, here!"
Other than official Change Orders that were agreed to, we did not have budget
for additional amounts, over and above what was agreed to in the original
signed Agreement. So, the Principals of
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
, LLC breached their
contract and abandoned the job site completely -- taking with them many items
that my wife and I had paid for (boxes of nails, screws, tile spacers, tools
and so forth).
Up to the point of GC's site abandonment,
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
Extreme Levels, LLC did not
deliver a replacement in-ground pool liner, for which we had paid $1,840, 8
weeks prior on September 8th (due to be delivered to the GC within 3 weeks of
order). Turns out, the GC ordered the 30mil pool liner, with our money --
but did not pay their supplier for it with the money we gave them, until we
threatened to file a fraud report with the County
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
's office.
Not quite so coincidentally, the GC bought a dump-truck right around the
time we paid them for the pool liner. When I first inquired about arrival of the
liner, the GC assured me it was delivered to a "storage" site three
weeks later. But what he did not tell me was the fact that the GC never paid
the wholesale pool supply house with the money, we paid, and the special liner
sat in an Indy warehouse for nearly two months, while the supplier
waited to be paid (the supplier had already put his money on the line by
ordering the liner from the manufacturer). When I tracked down the CEO of
the pool supply company, he told me he was still waiting to be paid for the
liner.
Extreme Levels, LLC abandoned our job site and never returned -- leaving us
with half-poured, not-to-standard industry best practices concrete
patios/walkways poured above grade, rather than "at grade" (experts
tell us the $2,500 job will have to be completely demolished and removed, as it
is not level, not properly brushed, and creates water-leakage problems into the
walls). In addition, the GC spilled concrete sludge across our backyard
and massive amounts of sludge were left to cover up poorly constructed,
un-removed concrete forms (that the GC was contractually bound to provide but,
instead, behind our backs, cut up our own expensive OSB boards and timber --
instead of supplying proper, bendable forms).
You might ask, as members of Angie's List, how we came to contract with such a
corrupt and nefarious GC. Well, we actually had several Angie's List
bidders -- one of which we had actually decided upon. Unfortunately, the
day we were to call the Angie's List contractor (who was within our budget
constraints), we received a message that he would be hunting and fishing in
Montana for several weeks and would not be reachable by cellphone. Due to
Fall weather that would soon set in, we could not wait that long and needed to
get started on the demo and remodel. So, we moved to the next
budget-level GC (who, though not an Angie's List member, had been
highly recommended by another local company) and
who was well within our remodel budget. The other bidders were just too
high for our budget. Had we just waited for the original A.L. contractor
to return from vacation, we would be living in our new retirement home...
which is currently uninhabitable. Lessons learned the hard way.

"I contacted
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
via angies list few weeks ago. Having a but hard time to communicate via email as
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
insisted to talk and get more information about the project before coming for estimate in person. So he agreed to have his colleague to call us at 8:30-9:00pm, but It didn't happen so we called
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
. (He seems to be very busy when he answering the phone and he stated that he was not having computer with him so he couldn't schedule appointment with me that he will email me later and it didn't happen.)-If they need to talk and learn about the project why
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
didn't talk about project when we had conversation on the phone but kept saying that he did have computer and will email us? We did not get the email as
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
promised, so I emailed
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
. He agreed to schedule a time to come to our house for estimate and then ask again to have phone conversation first.(what? I told him that I am not able to talk at work , that's why he schedule
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
to call me in the evening.... ) Anyway, apparently he didn't really read all the emails..... so finally
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
scheduled Mr.
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
Folisi to visit me on Saturday 10:00am. (As I know this company is not efficient and always not doing things they promised. I did send a friendly reminder 2 days before they schedule to visit my house.) Again, he scheduled to visit on Saturday but he replied me the wrong date! (I asked him to check all the emails and confirmed it should be Saturday, 2 days later.) On the day he schedule to come...no one show up. I was nice enough to call after 50 mins
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
should show up.(I do understand sometimes traffic can be bad, but can you call to inform me that you are going to be late? ) No one answer the phone so I left a voice mail and also sent
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
a email. It has been 3 days, no one ever called back and
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
didn't reply my email neither. I have been given so much chances and trying to be nice. But this company is just ridiculous that I have decide to give up. :( We didn't even have
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
to meet each other and I can feel how bad their service can be. don't you care about your reputation and how can clients reply on you if you provide your service like this?

&
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
were great to work with. They showed up each day at the time they said they would and went right to work. Both are hard workers.
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
kept me posted every step of the way. At the end of each day we reviewed what had been done, and he told me exactly what they were going to do the next day. We had a couple of water leaks in the old ceiling, which they identified both problem areas and fixed. Their attention to detail and problem solving were second to none. It's too bad every contractor isn't like
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
. I would recommend him to anyone interested in remodeling their basement.

"Not good. Very mediocre roughly done work. Untidy and things were only half finished. Work had no "finish". Sorry. Would def. not recommend."

"
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
and his team at
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
are exceptional and clearly among the best. They have done numerous jobs for us at three different locations including bathroom renovations, portico renovation, and complete new roofing to name a few. Everything that has been done has exceeded our expectations, on time and on budget with no exceptions. The most impressive so far has been the work done to our newly purchased house, circa 1729. The dimensions of just about everything are different than in newer homes and it's been tricky to maximize space while keeping the charm of the old structure.
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
has been a master at this and has a great eye for detail and design. In keeping with the period of the original house, I was very impressed by his ability to install new flooring that perfectly matched the original floors in the connecting rooms. He custom matched the color by mixing a variety of stains and applied coats until it was perfect, variations and all. I never expected such a close match and was thrilled to say the least. I can also say the same about the cabinetry and built in radiator enclosures. Small improvements made a huge difference. The exterior work on our barn and another more modern house that they did was just as well done. Again, great attention to detail.
Also, everything was well orchestrated with his sub contractors and we always felt informed.
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
oversees everything closely and everyone who worked on the house was professional, respectful, and polite. His crew was very clean and kept the dust to a minimum. Even the demolition phase was clean with complete vacuum after each day. I can't say enough about the work of
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
Building and will definitely hire them again.

"We did an update after 20 years to our master bathroom. We took out our Jacuzzi tub, enlarged our shower, retiled our floor and replaced the cabinet tops with granite.
Mc Gregor Basement Remodeling Companies Provider Name Locked
did a great job of completing the job, I only have one problem. His contract was not specific and what I thought was covered under "miscellaneous" and what he thought was different. No intentional misleading. The plumbing contractor he used was the only negative. Silverado did not know how to effectively install a freestanding tub."
