Top 5 secrets for cleaning your house fast

Dionne Johnson says she maintains her home, but for her husband, "maintained means dirty."

The couple brings New York house cleaners from Best Home Services into their home on a regular basis.

Johnson says her house cleaners begin working on her house in a specific order.

"My important areas in order, are my kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, bedrooms," Johnson says. "The cleaning is well executed."

Though maintaining a clean home is not good enough for Johnson's husband, "Mr. Clean Freak," she says, there are several ways to quickly clean your house between thorough sweeps.

1. Turn up the music
The tried and true method of playing upbeat music while cleaning will help you pick up the pace and have a little fun while you're at it. Just open up your “pump up” playlist, turn the volume up and get to work for full focus on the project ahead. Yes, it may sound a bit silly, but it can help you get motivated instead of feeling panicked.

2. Keep your cleaning caddy close
Hunting for the supplies you need each time you need them during the cleaning process can often double your cleaning time. Use a cleaning caddy (or substitute with a laundry basket if you don't have one) to keep all your essential supplies on hand when you need them. This will keep you more organized and increase time efficiency.

3. Clear out the trash
Open up a new trash bag and clear out all the big stuff that needs to be tossed in each room. Banana peels, loose papers, packaging and any other objects lying around should be discarded accordingly before you begin organizing what remains.

4. Wipe the counters only once
Many cleaners make the mistake of overloading the cleaning products, so they have no choice but to re-wipe the tables and counter tops several times after the initial cleaning. Use less cleaner than you think you'll need to avoid this situation and get the area just clean enough to pass inspection.

5. Choose vacuuming over sweeping
Sweeping can be one of the most time-consuming cleaning tasks, but if you substitute your broom for a vacuum, you can enjoy better efficacy and a quicker clean time. After vacuuming the carpet in the living room, simply roll it over to the kitchen tile and suck up all the leftover crumbs with better convenience and ease. Your vacuum may not be able to access those hard to reach areas the way your broom would, but for a quick clean it will definitely get the job done.

More intensive cleaning can be saved for scheduled cleaning days or for your usual house cleaner. Brooke Scherer makes sure her Tampa area house cleaners from Moonlight Cleaning Services don't forget the bathrooms, floors or to dust.

"I don't ever have time to get, like dusting baseboards and fans," she says.
