" has been doing my water softener and system ever since we had our home built back in 1993- His company started out" small and now has grown, but the quality of service, responsiveness, or the attention to detail has never waivered. Not only is knowledgeable in his field, he also is a very decent person. I have recommended to at least 10 of my family/friends, all have had nothing be good things to say about him and his products and service. and will keep on servicing my and all my water softener needs as long as I have them.

3 tips to select the best water treatment

Don't overpay for the wrong water treatment system. One highly rated provider offers some tips to help you choose the right system for your home.

Even if your tap water comes from a reservoir, chances are it previously passed through underground caverns where it absorbed mineral deposits. Water with a high concentration of minerals is referred to as "hard" water. It's safe to drink but can harm your plumbing and appliances.

I actually just replaced my Pelican Natursoft "water softener" with an more-traditional ion exchange model.  I used the natursoft for a little over 4 years, and I can say it worked as advertised.  When remodeling a while back we decided to get a tankless water heater.  All the documentation indicated that hard water with the tankless heater is a no go.  We had to do somehting, but since I'm lazy (didn't want to deal with the salt or plumbing in a drain) and my wife didn't like soft water, the salt-free model looked attractive.  I too was somewhat skeptical, but the reviews I found looked good, and I know enough about the science of nucleation (I was a material science major in college) to know that what they said made sense, so I bought one.

One thing needs to be made clear - the natursoft system is NOT a water softener!  It contains a media which nucleates some disolved metalic salts out of solution.  These crystals, once formed, remain in the water, and still react with oils, detergents, etc. in the same manner as the disolved salts.  They also continue to form scale wherever water is allowed to evaporate, such as faucet nozels and shower heads. In fact, it's possible that evaporative scaling was even worse than before we installed the system.

Importantly, however, once in crystaline form, these salts do not stick to pipes, or in my case, heat-exchangers.  My tankless heater has a sensor to indicate when it needs to be descaled, and the manual indicates that for my water hardness and hot water use I should have had to descale approximately every 6 months.  In four years with the natursoft the descaleing indicator has never gone off.  For further evidence, when I installed my new softener a few weeks ago, I had to cut sections from the copper pipe on both the inlet and outlet side of the natursoft.  Both sections of pipe were installed at the same time as the natursoft, but while the pipe on the inlet side was green and rough on the inside, the outlet pipe looked and felt like new.

As such, if you want or need a salt-free system for some reason (low-sodium diet for blood pressure, don't like the feel of soft water, can't easily plumb a drain into the softener location, or can't carry heavy bags of salt to the softener), then I can unequivocably recommend the natursoft.  If, like my wife and I today, you want soft water, that feels soft on your skin, creates less soap scum, rinses cleaner in the dishwasher, etc., then the natursoft probably isn't for you.

I bought a home with a 9 year old Kinetico in it in 1989. With our family of 6 the Kinetico used 1/2 the salt of two other brands we owned in previous homes, even though the water was harder in the home with the Kinetico non-electric system. When I sold the home in 1993, the buyer insisted I leave them the Kinetico. I bought a new one for my new home, my family grew to 8 and now after 21 years, it has only needed one repair (new resin) 5 years ago.

To answer your question...Kinetico would be a "Mercedes" while others carry the "yugo's." Kinetico offers many models to meet the needs of all families. The single tank Essential unit works well in homes with no iron and 1 or 2 people. Like other single tank systems, it can't provide soft water to your home while it regenerates. However, the Essential only takes 15 minutes to regenerate where electric units might take hours from start to finish. It also carries a full 5 year warranty on all parts. Other systems typically exclude the most important parts after only 1-3 years. All single tank softener can and will occasionally run out of soft water. (laundry day)

The Twin resin tank Kinetico models have several advantages like...5 yr warranty on Signature and Premier models have a 10 year warranty on all parts. So with the twins, you get better water, have virtually unlimited capacity, use less salt, are quiet, use soft water to clean themselves, use no electricity, have no clocks, batteries or computers to ever repair or reset. Power outages & surges have no effect on them. Having a Kinetico sold me on their value. Ask your dealer about renting one, so you can try before you buy.

The technician was very friendly. I tend to ask lots of questions because I like to understand how thins work. I also perform minor service of my water filter and I wanted to know what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. He was very patient with me. I will most definitely call in the future. I was very satisfied.

did a great job. He was very meticulous to make sure there were no leaks after he finished replacing all the new parts. He also walked me through the process of flushing the tank, which is necessary when replacing filters.I am very happy with his work.

Very lengthy sales pitch. Overly gimmicky. don't really need 10 different water tests to prove city water is bad. On the phone when we set up the appointment they highlighted how they would test our already filtered water at all locations we had a filter ie. Refrigerator, sink. The salesperson completely tried to avoid ...More doing this. When he did text one of our filters it seemed to work just as well as his filter. We patiently stood through a 90 minute demonstration and would have been fine considering his offer after he left. BUT, he tried the hard sell. Questioning my logic for waiting and doing separate due diligence. I really don't understand how he could pressure me to make a $7K purchasing decision after his 90 min. He pushed me for the fourth time, when my wife decided to give him a piece of her mind. In particular, she advised him that he should take our stance and hope for the business later. The worst thing that she scolded him on was the fact that he entered our house so positive, but was obviously irritated with us when we said 'we won't buy yet'. So he received a 5 minute scolding and went on his way.

They offer a gift card for your time, but I think that may be a bit of a scam. I received a flyer where I could mail in for my gift card. Let's see if I end up receiving the card.

Installation was quick, but I'm glad I stayed and watched because he removed my water softer and wasn't planning on reinstalling it, Guess he forgot what we talked about. After a month of sputtering from my faucets, washing machine and shower I called to set up an appointment for , the owner, to check it out. Spoke ...More with his assistant to set up an appointment for that Friday at 12 noon. As of 12:40 on the Friday of my appointment nobody showed up or called. I called the office number and answered and said was still at the office and wanted to speak with me. came to the phone, I told him what was happening and he said there really wasn't anything he could do, never heard of that happening before. So now, a month and a half later I still have the sputtering, which I never had before, and will probably hire someone else to check it out for me. I guess once he has your money he is finished.

To find , I researched only Angie's A-rated water treatment companies. However, over the last year, JR , the owner, has given A PLUS service for the same price. The extras he offered were detailed consulting and evaluation on dry wells, relocating my drainage lines, servicing after hours, and restoring ...More my damaged lawn and landscaping.
An example of how JR came through in an emergency was during the worst of all possible water calamities--a complete shutdown of all water, not even a dribble, and on the weekend, and when a shower and flushing were critical for a date. Friday evening when I called JR, he was away for the weekend on the opposite coast of Florida. He listened to my problem, and advised me to call Ed's Wells and Pumps who would handle my emergency on Saturday. At 4 AM, the system woke me up by starting again all by itself. After waking up late, I called JR to tell him, and he said he wondered what happened, because he himself called Ed at Ed's Wells to alert him about my situation. So I called Ed, and he advised me of a possible cause with the pressure plate, and how I could try fixing it myself if it happened again, for free!
This episode was the proof of A-Ratings on Angie's, because Ed's Wells also turned out to be an A. So even referrals from an "A" business were top echelon.
This weekend is installing a state-of-the-art AirGard system which eliminates the frequent chlorine odors. Although he is booked for the entire week, JR will install the new system on Saturday with no surcharge!

One of the owners, , came by in the morning and explained their product options. Clearly he has a lot of experience in the business. We chose the "President" softener because it had more features and a longer warranty than the others. We were limited on time that week, so he agreed that they could do the installation ...More the same day. The workers showed up as expected and went about the tasks in a professional manner. They checked that the water pressure is not too high. When they were done, the lead technician explained the operation of both the softener and the unit.

When he said he could do the work and save us the price of a plumber, we asked what price we were looking at. He said it would take about 3 hours and the price would be $300.00, so we agreed. We didn't know that wasn't a quote, it was the fixed price for him to do the work. He spent just over an hour, did a mouse ...More job of it, and charged us $300.00 plus tax. When we contested the bill, he said if we didn't pay he would take us to small claims court.

, the owner and installer, was prompt and personable. He appeared to be very knowledgeable about water treatment. The system he installed was one of the least expensive ones I saw in shopping around, but it works fine.
