All went smoothly with the removal, but after talking to other friends who have had similar work done, I felt that the price was rather high for just a few hours of work.
$650 minus the dumping fees ($70-100), insurance & gas, it seems that the cost of labor was about $70-80/hr. per employee?
It was a rush job since the structure was dangerously ready to fall over. The guys were very nice and I was relieved to have them come out right away, but am just disappointed because I feel like I got taken advantage of since I didn't know better when it comes to pricing.

was the quickest to respond to my inquiries out of all the handyman companies I contacted. In addition, he dealt with my repeated questions, my requests for clarification and my "What about …" questions. He was also to take the inspection report and work right from it and provide an estimate along with a note that said, "It could be less if …" so I had a higher threshold that was already reasonable, and a reduction in the end!
The work he and his colleague did was great! Up on the roof to fix boots, shingles, nail pops, etc and on the ground for garage door work, up the side of the house for vinyl adjustments and under the porch for more. Everything we asked him to do, he did, PLUS! My husband even said sarcastically, "Ignore the line on the invoice for helping me move the grill." That wasn't, obviously, a part of the plan, nor was there an actual extra charge, but

helped move it off the deck for us.
Those little things add up to great service, support and results. The roof is done. The garage is done. The vinyl is done and that means a HUGE list of inspection items is in fact complete!

I purchased the Big Deal for 4 hours of labor. I asked them to remove old shutters and replace them with new ones (that I had already purchased). I could not have been happier with the results. They called me a week earlier than my appointment to let me know they had a slot open and asked if they could come out that day. The gentleman worked very efficiently including suggesting re-caulking around the windows once the old shutters were removed. I was so thankful he noticed they needed to be repaired and asked me if I would like him to do this before putting on the new shutters. This will save me time and money in the future and I really appreciated his attention to detail. Even with that additional service, he still got the job done within the 4 hour range. In and of itself, I would recommend the company in the future and will strongly consider them for future jobs. I had about 8 contractors for estimates on several home projects. AHI was a company that seemed to know what they were doing, were going to use quality products (hurricane guaranteed materials), and could physically show a Class A license. Other contractors seemed to either over price the job or give the impression that the job done would be subpar. When it came to scheduling, apparently my townhouse was considered a small job and therefore, was usually scheduled in between larger jobs. I wanted to be home when the work being done on the house just in case anything unexpected popped up. It seemed strange that it was encouraged that I wouldn't have to worry about being at home since all the work was outdoors. I think it was more because of scheduling issues than shady business but it seemed to be a problem in scheduling to find a day when AHI would have a day in between big jobs and my calendar. After two last minute calls to see if I was available the next day, I was able to get a scheduled window of two days and was told that whichever day it would be, someone would be round the house by 830ish. However, come the day of, I had not heard from anyone by 9:15/9:30. I kept calling the main line and texted the individual I signed the contract with trying to track down what was happening. It was not until about 10:30 before someone arrived. I would have appreciated a phone call the day before to confirm the day selected - particularly since the scheduler couldn't confirm the exact day anyway. It was also a job expected for about a day that turned into a 3 day job.
On a side note, it was good that I was home because it was discovered there was a problem with the house that was not anticipated that I was able to address before the work was finished instead of just covering it up.
For what it's worth, despite the minor communication issues, I would use AHI again. They did take longer and the scheduling was complicated but the work done looks really good. The house looks much improved than it did 3 days ago. The ultimate task was to make the house look better and they accomplished it very well. I felt it was worth the money for the repairs done.

Seriously positive experience. I have to congratulate myself for finally making the decision to go forward with my little project and also congratulations for contracting him to do the work.
