Commerce Countertop Installation Articles
Still, it was a good deal, and I was impressed with his reviews. After visiting his location to see the granite slab, I was very excited.
The installation, however, did not go as well as hoped. I had wanted to be there when the crew came to take out the old and install the new, and we had lined up a local plumber so that we could reinstall the sink, but, that Saturday, Waheed texted us that he was having car trouble, so we rescheduled, and as a result, we weren't there for the installation.
The good news is that the new granite countertop is beautiful. The disappointment is that there were numerous dings, scratches, and gouges on my kitchen walls which are bad enough to warrant spackling a few areas and repainting the kitchen. The plumber reported that when he arrived after the installation to reconnect the valves, the cabinet under the kitchen sink was filled with water and that the hot- water valve under the kitchen sink was damaged, leaving us without hot water and requiring a replacement part. His exact words were, "someone did a very sloppy job."
I have to agree. I love the look of the countertops and have calmed down from my initial distress, and in fairness, I'm sure it's easier, and more common, to install a countertop for new construction or renovation (where paint is the last step) than to replace an old one, leaving everything else intact. However, that was the job, and Waheed knew it. I wasn't happy with the mess that greeted me upon arriving at the house.
I think from now on, I'll take all reviews with a grain of salt unless I know the reviewers personally, and I will never again let someone do a job at my home without my being there. I should have just waited. My husband wanted Waheed to pay for the damage (repainting and the new sink part) but he wasn't responsive, and I didn't push it because I would rather handle it myself. Lesson learned. I'll include images of the battered walls also.
1. He gave us the best price for one cut granite countertop vs two cuts
2. While most kitchen contractors only wanted to place new countertop, including removal of old countertop, tile and all plumbing connections for new faucet. None of the other contractors we got a quote from were willing to completely finish all the work. They did not include demolition and plumbing connection work. It was very nice to come home and see everything finished in one day.
The installation also went very smooth and the quality of work was high.
